FAQ:
How do you define “LGBTQIA+” & “womên”?
LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Womên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender, heterosexual womên.
The word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined.
I am not LGBTQIA+ and not a womên, can I still attend?
No, please respect that this particular event is not for you. There are lots of other events you can attend. But Queerope one is solely for people of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum & womên.
I cannot afford the ticket but would love to join. What do I do?
Send us a message via info@karada-house.de. If we have pay-it-forward tickets available we will make them available to you. If we don’t we will put you on a waiting list or see what else we can do. Either way, we will find a way.
What platform do you use for the virtual conference?
We need to use Zoom as it is the only platform available that is affordable and stable enough for bigger groups. Please make sure you can fulfill the requirements for Zoom from your side to have a satisfactory experience. We will do our best to make the zoom calls safe by engaging all possible security features. You do not have to turn your camera on and you can use any name you like.
The times don’t always work for me / I cannot attend everything I want…
That is why we will make recordings available to you, so you can watch & re-watch them within 30 days.
If I share my computer with a person, is buying one ticket enough?
No. You are not paying for the computer access but for the knowledge that the facilitators and artists are distributing. Please respect that knowledge has a worth and should be compensated.
I am all alone at the moment and have no partner. Does it still make sense to participate?
Absolutely. There will be a variety of topics and skills and not all of them require a partner. You can learn a lot even just by listening and watching or trying things on yourself. We will also provide knowledge and possibilities for self-tying & suspension and other solo practices.

Caritia
About Caritia: lives as an LGBTQAI+, gender-fluid, BiPoC (assigned female at birth) individual. Walking a path with invisible disabilities and the living challenges which accompany that life. Educator, creative and ongoing work in process, whose advocacy for establishing boundaries is as strong as the desire to love with truth and honesty. On a quiet mission to destigmatise difference and return power to each individual. Using the language of kink to the point of geeky excitement. Caritia’s fascination with the root/the body stems from a longing too deeply ‘listen’ to (her) body holistically, from the inside out.caritia@karada-house.de
Mamana (they/them)
Mamana (they/them) is an artist and academic currently working with and exploring the body not only as a physical entity but also as a means to create and subvert meaning beyond the standard concepts of identity and restrictive societal norms of what bodies should look and be like, what they are allowed to do and what no.
René de Sans (she/her)
René is a visual artist with a focus on photography and film. She first came into contact with rope bondage in 2013 while modeling for private lessons and started to develop tying skills with self-tying. Eventually, she also started to tie others and finds herself comfortable on all sides of the ropes.

Responsibility is an important concept that needs to be paid attention to in a rope scene, particularly when playing with Semenawa. This is actually the direct translation of the Chinese term for Semenawa ‘责绳’ so it creates an interesting perspective on how Semenawa can be a practice of exploring responsibility; over your own body, limits, actions, and over others.
In this lecture/demonstration, Hua Hua and her model will share the importance of accountability and autonomy when dealing with suffering in rope, ending the class with a demonstration of their own semenawa style.
Details:
Format: lecture & demonstration
Minimum Knowledge Level: no prior knowledge needed, prior interest in semenawa is encouraged

hua hua (she/her)
hua hua (she/her) is an artist and Shibari teacher. She is the founder of Borderline Shibari, a platform dedicated to creating a mindful and conscious Shibari community. She began the first public rope art classes in Shanghai, and has held numerous workshops, performances and Shibari events across China. She is now based in Europe and continues to develop Borderline online and offline. She believes that rope bondage is a practice of authenticity. To her, ropes build the bridge between two beings; between interior and exterior and between the elevated and the underground. In addition to her Shibari work, her art work also includes experimental nude photography, physical theatre, installations and she frequently collaborates with other artists to encourage cross-cultural integration. Her artwork is influenced by BDSM, just as her Shibari teaching derives techniques from other disciplines. hua hua's Shibari teaching style is centred around intention, expression and the emotional process of rope. Her work has been featured on various Shibari platforms such as Shibari Study and Queer Rope festival. More about her work can be found on her Patreon: patreon.com/borderlineshibari

How do our experiences in rope-learning influence how we tie? And as facilitators and instructors, how do we decide how to teach and what to teach? Queering rope demands a queering of rope pedagogy, and this event is dedicated to exploring different ways of teaching rope.
At this discussion panel, various shibari instructors are joined together to share their experiences in rope learning and rope teaching. Participants are encouraged to bring their questions, discoveries, and frustrations with rope learning/teaching and together we will ponder on the ways forward.
Panelists: Caritia, Gandalf, Andrea Rimon, Barkas, Pauline Massimo

Gandalf (they/them)
Gandalf is a Shibari artist and instructor. They were trained as a cognitive scientist before leaving academia and started a body art platform (KinkyFeminist), which dedicates itself to diversifying rope education and building safe(r) spaces for rope practitioners. They now teach both artistic expression and cognitive science. Gandalf teaches a style of tying that borrows heavily from different styles of theatre and dance. It aims to explore the potential of rope beyond eroticism and emphasizes attention and empathy in tying. They have also started the "Kinbaku Theatre" initiative to further push the boundaries of rope performance. Each class consists of 20 laypeople who are new to tying, who would produce an on stage performance over a period of a 12-hour intensive tying and movement workshop. I’m sure you’ve heard this before. “The best way to learn about your body in rope is to lab with a tying partner.” It’s meant to be helpful advice. But if you don’t have a tying partner, then what are you supposed to do?
Let’s escape the conundrum. In this class, we’ll explore practical ways to discover crucial information about your preferences without needing help from anybody else. You’ll leave with tons of information to share with your future tying partners (and you might also discover that it’s really fun to tie with yourself!).
This class is geared towards suspension, but I’ll offer progressive exercises that start on the ground.
Details:
Format: workshop
Minimum Knowledge Level: The theory in this class is suitable for all levels.
If you’d like to tie along, you should know how to tie a single-column tie, a half hitch, and a munter hitch. If you’re interested in adding the element of suspension into your exploration, you should also know how to tie a secure upline.
What to Bring: Bring 6-8 ropes to tie along. If you’d like to experiment with suspension, please have a secure hard point available. If you don’t have access to a hard point but would like to flirt with gravity, bring a heavy object that can be attached to a harness (eg. rock, dumbbell, stack of books).
Solo or Partnered: solo
Class recording: yes
This class will be recorded (only the facilitator, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event.

Hi, I'm CJ! I'm a tall, fat, muppety human who's been doing this ropey thing since 2017. I tie, am tied, and self tie, with a particular specialization in dubious suspensions for the sake of science. The word "can't" makes me deeply suspicious. As such, I'm compelled to find the adaptations and modifications that make suspensions possible for all bodies. Curiosity and collaboration make my world go round, and I'll *absolutely* help you make your weirdest rope dreams into reality.

My approach to shibari has evolved as the result of over a decade of practice on both sides of the ropes and a broad range of influences that I appropriate, mix and develop in my own practice. This has shaped my teaching style into one that seeks to reflect the experience of both tying partners on a deep level. I have a strong belief that shibari should not be prescriptive and encourage students to explore it as a flexible set of tools; adapting each tie to the body of the tied partner, and to their needs and desires within each individual situation. My teaching process aims to enable this by giving students a framework of the fundamental principles behind shibari; including safety efficiency and fluency, but also body awareness, communication, and conscious consideration of their own experiences and motivations. I absorbed most of my technical rigging style a natural process of observation and experience from inside the ropes of the people I was tied by as a model. In this respect, I have been lucky to have had a broad range of influences.

This roundtable conversation between Ceci Ferox, Cegregia, and Ms. Reemah explores what it means to be fat in the world of rope. How does fat and weight influence how we tie and get tied? What are the politics around fatness and rope? And what kind of juicy tricks and pleasurable hacks have we found through our own and other people’s fat bodies?
This discussion centers on the fat body not as an object but as the protagonist. If you are fat, we invite you to share your own joy and pleasure. If you are not fat, we invite you to listen in on this sharing and to give space.

Ceci Ferox is a Berlin-based sex therapist, kink activist, and rope teacher originally from Finland. Safer spaces and empowerment through quality education are important for them.
Cegregia (she/her)
Ms. Reemah (she/her)
Ms. Reemah is a queer woman of color from Atlanta. She has been a part of the kink community since 2017. Ms. Reemah is a member of the sisterhood Black FemDoms (BFD)-Atlanta. Ms. Reemah derives immense joy and connectedness through rope play. There is an intimate connection between a rigger and rope bottom that is profound and unlike no other. While also providing an outlet for creativity by manifesting the beauty and strength of the bottom in rope. POCs are disproportionately represented in the kink community. As a queer black Femme Domme, Ms. Reemah has taken strides to increase the visibility, education, participation, and awareness of POCs in the kink community.

Objectification has always been a widely popular fetish within the BDSM scene, especially in connection with bondage. However, the common depiction is mainly associated with the objectification of women, which can contribute to gender inequality, and body dysmorphia. In this workshop hua hua and her model will explore objectification through Shibari, looking at the aesthetics of the body, dehumanization, and immobilization.

Minimum Knowledge Level: Participants who would like to tie along with the practical part of the workshop should be able to the fundamentals (single and double column tie, a few basic frictions) If they are not tying along there are no prerequisites!
What to Bring: Rope if they would like to tie along, and participate with a partner.

hua hua (she/her) is an artist and Shibari teacher.

In this demo and talk, Ceci wants to share their preferred way of suspension – working on low suspension points while sitting on the floor. Ceci will share why they gravitate towards this kind of suspension and give pointers on what to consider. You will get tips and tricks for how to build your suspension set-up both using rings/carabiners and bamboo. You will get insight into how to build any suspension low, and how to lift people when you can’t use your body weight as much. Ceci will also share some psychological insights into low suspensions.
Details:
Format: lecture/demonstration
Minimum Knowledge Level: To be able to practice what Ceci is showing in this workshop, you will need to have already started doing suspensions. You understand suspension safety, suspension line handling, and managing bodies in suspension. The workshop does not include suspension basics. Ceci will also not teach any harnesses, so you will need to know some suspendable upper and lower body ties to be able to follow along.
What to Bring: Rope if they would like to tie along, and participate with a partner.
Solo or Partnered: any constellation

LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Womên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender, heterosexual womên.

This performance – by now a tradition of Queerope – is full of Akechi Kanna’s and Akechi Kagura’s favorite ways to play and relate to each other in rope.
There are means to what they want to do with each other, and these means will constantly be changed according to the partner’s reactions to each other. The means tend to become the end, but the rope is the means, not the goal. So join us in watching two masterful rope practitioners play with each other — and probably us as the audience as well.

Barrett (they/them) & Indigo (they/she)
Barrett (they/them) started their rope journey with simple bedroom ties around 12 years ago. Starting five years ago they have taken a very focused interest in Japanese rope, with an even more narrow focus on studying under Akechi Kanna for the past two and a half years. Indigo (they/she) has been bottoming for roughly two decades, and has taken an interest in learning the tying side of things for the past five years. They have been tying together for five years, with a shared love for rope that emphasizes connection, intimacy, sexuality, and sadism. They received the title of deshi to Akechi Kanna in 2022, and strive to continue earning that honor through their tying and teaching efforts.

Every beginning has an end and every end is a new beginning.
In the last Warm-Up Session of this conference, we’ll look at the tipping point between tying and untying. Does untying mean the end of a session? Or can it be the invitation to increase the intensity of playing? How can we overwrite the narratives that make someone think of the end while they get released from the ropes?
We will share thoughts and ideas and will be playing on how to consider the process of untying as an active part of a session instead of an inevitable end.

Lavender (she/her)
What she enjoys about rope, is the transfer and exchange of energy that happens between the top and the bottom. She uses those moments to further get in tune with her body just as she does in pole dancing and continuously discover how that skill set transfers into rope. In seeking to grow the participation for BIPOC in kink within her community she strives to bring more connective opportunities to others. It was love at first tie. During her journey she realized how few bodies and people that looked like her existed in rope spaces and platforms. She takes delight in the deep connection and trust between Top and bottom as well as the pain and beauty involved as both tie together. This venture has allowed her to take her passions of mental health and rope, combining them together to share with others her experiences of healing through rope and kink explorations.

Death as an alchemic process imposes the experience of stillness, silence, and emptiness. It carries us through a dark path of loss and hopelessness that can be extremely hard to hold and navigate and at the same time an opportunity to introduce the value of that which has been lost and rediscover it within ourselves.
Gravare, the Latin word for grieve is a concept rooted in the idea of burden and weight much like the subjective experience during a loss. Roser will represent these ideas and feelings in a personal, intimate live performance through self-tying and the exploration of movement within the range allowed by the weight of a floating hashira, with the hope to discover that which will enable us to compost the old to grow the new.

Please respect that knowledge has worth and should be compensated.
