ABOUT: Sexual Identities will dedicate an entire weekend to explore the vastness and complexities of human sexual identities in many different ways.
We will offer a variety of formats from discussions to workshops or interventions with a focus on critical inquiry but also hands-on approaches in hopes to enable participants to not only think about sexual identities in a more intersectional way but also acquire skills to think and act accordingly in the future.

In this workshop, Caritia will guide you through an in-depth process of mapping and understanding your current sexual identity. This process will not only explore the territory itself, but it will also give way to a more critical inquiry about what sexual identity is to you, how it is currently formed and where these identifications might come from and lead to.
This workshop can serve as a stand-alone mapping exercise but is also aimed at providing a base for the About: Sexual Identities Conference which this class is part of.

About Caritia: lives as an LGBTQAI+, gender-fluid, BiPoC (assigned female at birth) individual. Walking a path with invisible disabilities and the living challenges which accompany that life. Educator, creative and ongoing work in process, whose advocacy for establishing boundaries is as strong as the desire to love with truth and honesty. On a quiet mission to destigmatise difference and return power to each individual. Using the language of kink to the point of geeky excitement. Caritia’s fascination with the root/the body stems from a longing too deeply ‘listen’ to (her) body holistically, from the inside out.caritia@karada-house.de

Kink is seen as something dirty that needs to be hidden, something you choose to do instead of needing.
Still very recently being kinky was a mental disorder, a paraphilia that was pathologized. The normative gay community has been trying to keep a distance to BDSM because of politics, even though it’s an integral part of queer culture. Some people still fear for their jobs and their family ties in case their kinky activities would come out. And some people get turned on by feeling wrong, by being stigmatized.
Being kinky has a different meaning for different people. For some, it is a primary sexual identity, more important than things like the gender of partners or genital-based sexual activity. For others, it’s a secondary identity, and for many, it’s the spice for the bedroom or a preference they can live without.
Join Ceci for this exploration of kink through performance and discussion. Share stories, get political, feel like you found a home, feel alienated, get angry, give support, listen. Leave with some new perspectives in the end.

Same and mixed-orientation relationships manifest in many ways. How do we balance the normalcy of unsaid expectations still present in non-heteronormative dynamics? Can we normalize relational negotiations while still promoting spontaneity and organic bonding?
What stereotypes do aroaces experiences that can inhibit their bonding and relational growth?
This discussion is open to asexuals, aromantics, and allosexuals/alloromantics (non ace/aro partners and allies).

Event Details
Folx living with chronic pain routinely confront normative ideas about sexuality as our bodies cannot, struggle to – or simply don’t want to – adhere to politics of sexual desirability.
Examples of this include physical aesthetics & physical ability, including sexual activities, positions, stamina, endurance, etc. It’s so valid and common to have a complex relationship to sexuality, which can be amplified by pain.
This workshop is for folx who experience chronic pain, our partners & our allies to explore those complexities.
Almond’s intention for this workshop is to hold space for the exploration of chronic pain at the intersection of sexuality & intimacy – in our own bodies and in the bodies of people we love. We will arrive in gentle embodiment with poetry. We will chat about disability justice, decentering normative sex practices, expanding ideas of climax & moving through difficult emotions we may experience about our bodies and our sexuality.
We will share strategies and turn-ons. I will guide you in a short erotic self-pleasure practice. And we will end with some journaling. It will be filled with deep respect for all of the ways we each arrive at sexuality within this common thread of chronic pain.

In this class, Caritia will take a long and hard look at the intersections of race and sexual & gender identity and how we are all influenced by colonialism, racism, and racialized ideas.
This class will work with a mixture of historical facts, theories but will also draw from a vast depot of lived experiences as a Black, queer, kinky person, living in Europe.

Sexual identities are not fixed in any way. They change and transform and evolve constantly….
We might identify as top or bottom or switch or slut or asexual or stone or bi or pan or queer or lesbian or kinky or straight or gay or poly or femme or butch or non of the above „boxes“.
How do class and the way we grew up (in poverty/ middle class / rich and all the places in between) come into play?
During the first part of the workshop, we will talk about topics of class and other social positionings like geography or race as they intersect with one another. This happens with a focus on how our sexual identities are shaped by them. It is not meant as a discussion but rather personal storytelling and active listening. Participants who want to share are asked to talk about their own experiences.
The second part of the workshop is about shame and pride and how we feel them in our bodies. This being a trauma-aware approach, we will start with a guided meditation that helps us ground and sense our bodies. We will find an anchor that keeps us centered and from there explore a tiny little bit of what shame can feel like in our bodies.
It is possible to only take part in the 1st part of the session and to skip the 2nd part – or to watch it later!

Event Details
In recent decades, neoliberalist ideas have strongly influenced many aspects of our lives. We are witnessing a “commodification of everything” (David Harvey), combined with individualistic notions of freedom and choice, which disguise different power structures and modes of exclusion.
Often, sexualities are understood as something private, detached from such economic questions – but they are not. Yet, the relations between sexualities and neoliberal capitalism are complex and sometimes ambiguous.
This workshop is an invitation to reflect on these relations and discuss the intersections of sex and neoliberalism along with the following and other questions:
What happens to sex and sexualities in a society that urges us to consume, compete and continuously improve ourselves? What does sexual freedom (not) mean in this context? And how can we as individuals and communities react to and/or counteract the growing neoliberalisation of our sexual lives?

Event Details
The landscape of different sexual identities is vast and more and more white spots on the maps are discovered, created, and surveyed.
Although it became easier to travel between different areas on that globe, one operation remains unthinkable: Not to identify with a certain sexuality seems as rare and problematic as being nationless.
In a sense, entering an area of a specific sexual identity demands from us the enunciation of a promise. To identify, after all, can be seen as an orientation in a certain direction or to submit to certain rules of that identity.
Is there a way to identify without a promise? How would that look like and ‘where’ would that be?
This is not necessarily a workshop but an exploration. After establishing a toolkit of the identity surveyor, we will go together on a journey to find out if there can be a land that does not require a promise of entrance. In other words, we will draw a map of sexual identities.
Program: After a brief introduction of ideas, Barkas takes a large, empty map and together we will draw a world map of sexual identities with the aim of abolishing borders. The aim is to facilitate a lively discussion at the intersection of queer phenomenology, politics, heterotopology, poetry, and geometry.

Barkas (they/them)
Barkas (they/them) is a bondage educator, performance artist, and writer. Their main focus is the development of various forms of language outside and on the border of verbal communication. With an academic background in physics, mathematics, history, and philosophy, their exploration of possibilities within and around rope bondage includes embedding the practice of tying into a larger context and the deconstruction of those contexts. Their contribution to the bondage narrative includes the development of Ranboo - a highly dynamic way of tying, “The City of Kinbaku”- a pedagogical concept for teaching Kinbaku, and the interview metaphor - as explicated in their book “Archaeology of Personalities”. Aside from bondage, their research and work include studies about identity and sexuality in a broader sense. In October they co-organized the international conference “Queer Practices/Queer Embodiment”. Barkas is based in Vancouver, Canada.

The Karada House “ABOUT:” conference series aims to bring transdisciplinary educators, artists, and thinkers with different approaches and backgrounds together to take a deep dive into specific, complex topics around identity, love, sexuality, the body, and embodiment, etc.
In our work, we keep meeting a multitude of humans whose understanding of (their) sexual identity is informed by the idea that sexual identity is a somewhat fixed pattern that is hardwired into us and just needs to be found. We see how limiting, binary, and even detrimental to people’s lives this narrative is.
