Tying on the ground, as taught by the late Yukimura Haruki, is a style that focuses on the quality of connection and communication between the person in ropes and the person tying. The point is not that you are connected but how. The same is true for communication; what, how, why do you communicate, and with what intention?
In this workshop series, we will develop a solid understanding of how the terms communication, position, and pattern are connected and how they frame an interaction between people in a scene. In addition, we will work on ways to gracefully move each other emotionally and physically while remaining on the ground.
Georg Barkas was a student of Yukimura Haruki until his passing in 2016. In their countless lessons with Yukimura, Barkas developed their own, unique interpretation of Yukimura Ryu. In 2015, Barkas was awarded the name Haru Tsuyu by Yukimura and was told to go and teach what they had learned.
Addie studies floorwork through a combination of Barkas’ interpretations and her exploration and implementation of a variety of tying techniques.
