Our “new” space is already turning three (!!) so we’re having a queer little summer party about it.

Come hang out, dance, play games, eat daddy Antje’s sausages, lie in a cuddle puddle, make new friends, avoid eye contact with the new friends, and generally exist together in a nice way. It’s a sober space, but still very much a party.

This is for LGBTQIA+ folks – extroverts, introverts, socially anxious cuties, people who say “I’ll only stay for one hour” and then don’t leave. You can be in the middle of everything or tucked away somewhere cozy. Both are correct.

There’s no pressure to do anything in particular — just drift between things and see what feels good.

We’ll also have a clothing swap, so bring stuff you don’t wear anymore and maybe leave as a slightly different person. There will be a crafts and games room, so bring your summer crochets and art projects to work on in company.

Spaces:

  • kitchen + mezzanine: snacks, alcohol-free drinks for sale, soft socializing
  • main room: dancing, social games, performances, a cuddle area (!!)
  • corner room: crafty queers + board games + gentle, quiet(er) vibes
  • garden (if weather behaves): BBQ, clothing swap & freebox, lying on the grass
(if not, we simply bring “outside energy” inside)

Program

14.00 Doors open

14.30 Social Games & Facilitated Dance Party with Ceci Ferox
Awkward is today’s word, and we will embrace it. Waddle like a penguin, or let the spirit of our house octopus plushie guide your moves. The weirder, the better. Also maybe learn (and forget) some people’s names? We don’t know, but this is for all the introverts who don’t know how to people (and the extroverts who want to adopt us… eh, them).

15.30 Trans* Choir Plänterwald (TCP’22)
“We are Berlin’s powerful choir, featuring original arrangements for trans*, non-binary, and inter* voices. With a blend of fun retro hits and contemporary pop songs, we create a space for openness, visibility, and community. Our repertoire is as diverse as we are: at times loud and defiant, at others gentle and moving—but always authentic. Our goal: a safe space to discover one’s own voice and grow together.”

16-18 Hanging out & Pop-up performances:

  • Community Tarot Reading with Caritia
Caritia is a Berlin-based kink activist, shibari educator, and co-founder of Karada House and OhYesPlease.org. Caritia’s art stems from a desire to advocate and support others to explore intentionally and intersectionally the boundaries around their bodies, sexuality and self-expression.
  • Surprise Performance with Quentin Crisper and Peppi The Brutalist Panda
Urban nature scout, radical faerie, playmate and adhd-prince, based in Berlin Quentin Crisper explores the world
through bodywork, sex work and art. Quentin aims to be a constant invitation for people to explore the strange, the intimate, the magical and the longings and desires in the unspoken spaces in between.  — Daydreaming, awkward, and hot. Peppi is a Berlin-based performer and activist with an acute passion for seriously silly kink. Their interests include voice work, chaos and non-normative powerplay. A complete menace, they often live by the motto “that’s stupid… I’ll do it!”.

18-21 Karaoke with Ceci Ferox
Come find your voice in a traditional Finnish karaoke, where your choice of song matters more than how you sing it. Sit in a corner with the microphone, avoiding eye contact with the audience, or ask a cutie to dance while someone sings a tango.

Logistics stuff:

  • sober event
  • LGBTQIA+ only
  • drop in whenever, but get a ticket beforehand
  • not a play space

Come as you are, stay as long as you want, leave when your social battery says “ok babe that’s enough”

Contact us if you want to volunteer! We still need people for bar and door shifts: info@karada-house.de

Karada House

Karada House is a queer collaborative art space that researches the boundaries, intersectionalities and politics of body, art and the multitude of interactions between them. Karada (体) is the Japanese word for body and translates in its literal form to “root of a person”. We respect, celebrate and explore the variety of gender and sexual expressions and identifications. Karada House is a body-posi...
