Minimum knowledge
basic knowledge of rope bondage techniques (eg. single column tie, wrapping with even tension, securing ends), foundational understanding of consent and safety, good communication skills and a trusting dynamic will enable partners to explore potentially new and challenging experiences, a preexisting relationship with your partner is preferable
What to bring
For people tying: 4 natural fiber ropes. Note: we use natural fiber jute ropes and thus our expertise is relative to this material only For people in rope: an upper-body garment with buttons down the front, e.g. a button-up shirt, bodice, dress, even a jean jacket or other light outer garment could be fun. Note: short or long sleeves provide more options for restraint. And a garment or outfit in which you experience gender euphoria. And a garment or outfit to be transformed/destroyed
Accessibility notes
We can adapt to accessibility needs.

A plaid shirt, off-the-shoulder blouse, button-fly jeans, sweet summer sundress, oversized sweatshirt, canvas workwear—clothing is deeply coded. More than simply fashion, our relationship to clothing is tactile, emotional, psychological. What we wear signals who we are, who we want to be, and how we wish to be seen—or not seen at all.

As queers, we are especially adept at using clothing to shape identity: to fit in, stand out, or hide in plain sight. Undressing then becomes a vulnerable, intimate act that asks for care and awareness. An exposed shoulder, a lifted skirt, an open fly, a misplaced undergarment—small shifts that redirect attention may have a large impact. In this guided lab, Bondagious and Thumper introduce tactics for exploring an unexpected form of edging through undressing. We examine clothing in rope bondage as both a structural element as well as a tool for sensation play.

This is a play-based exploration: we will not be focused on reproducing specific patterns. Efficiently and sustainably tying up your partner will leave you more time to explore. We will play with images that mirror non-consensual aesthetics, and thus are at the margin of what is allowed. This exploration is grounded in care and attentiveness, building a sense of security that allows us to explore the shadows of desire and imagination together.

Bondagious & Thumper (he/him & he/they)

Bondagious (he/him) snared Thumper (he/they) at a rope date in the fall of 2019, and they have been tying tangible and intangible bonds ever since. Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the duo has studied principally Akechi Kanna-style rope bondage, from official and unofficial sources. They draw inspiration from Barkas and Addie’s approach to rope as a tool for communication and connection, strongl...
