SUMMARY:Of Fabric and Friction: Clothing and Culture Play
DESCRIPTION:A plaid shirt\, off-the-shoulder blouse\, button-fly jeans\, sweet summer sundress\, oversized sweatshirt\, canvas workwear—clothing is deeply coded. More than simply fashion\, our relationship to clothing is tactile\, emotional\, psychological. What we wear signals who we are\, who we want to be\, and how we wish to be seen—or not seen at all. \nAs queers\, we are especially adept at using clothing to shape identity: to fit in\, stand out\, or hide in plain sight. Undressing then becomes a vulnerable\, intimate act that asks for care and awareness. An exposed shoulder\, a lifted skirt\, an open fly\, a misplaced undergarment—small shifts that redirect attention may have a large impact. In this guided lab\, Bondagious and Thumper introduce tactics for exploring an unexpected form of edging through undressing. We examine clothing in rope bondage as both a structural element as well as a tool for sensation play. \nThis is a play-based exploration: we will not be focused on reproducing specific patterns. Efficiently and sustainably tying up your partner will leave you more time to explore. We will play with images that mirror non-consensual aesthetics\, and thus are at the margin of what is allowed. This exploration is grounded in care and attentiveness\, building a sense of security that allows us to explore the shadows of desire and imagination together. \n
