Frictions are the building blocks of any tie, be it a pattern or just freestyle. They make the structure and safety of a tie.

This workshop is part of a weekend deep dive into all things friction, knots, and tension. You can choose to visit only the workshop on Saturday or Sunday. If you would like to book the entire weekend, please purchase your ticket via this event.

Saturday: Frictions and Fundamentals for Floor Play + Rope Practice Lab

In this workshop, we will dive deep into the frictions for tying on the floor. We will practice using counter tension, the direction changer/half hitch, and the munter hitch. It’s all about drills and
understanding why things work the way they do! The content includes two knots for the single column tie and discussing the functional properties of each. We will also learn how to make an in-line single-column tie. Many of Ceci’s students in Helsinki have attended this workshop several times during different points of their tying journey. Challenge yourself and come check out what it’s all about!

The Rope Practice Lab is your opportunity to practice your tying skills while having someone there to help you out. We start with a starting circle, where everyone shares what they want to work on during the lab. After that, it’s practice time. Ceci walks around the room helping you with your specific questions. They offer feedback, possible solutions to problems, co-creation, technical assistance, and support if you want to try something on the upper limits of your skills.

Who is this event for?

LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity, meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid,

Friends describes people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity, needs, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community.

When you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgment to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender straight privileges.

Friends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all pro-actively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
