For three days, BIPOC folks are invited to gather for a BIPOC-led shibari weekend rooted in learning, connection, and shared practice. This gathering is intentionally created as a space for BIPOC participants to explore rope in community—with care, curiosity, and respect for the many ways we come to this practice.
Across the weekend, we will move between structured learning, guided exploration, and open time to meet, practice, and build relationships with one another. Whether you are newer to rope or have existing experience, this space prioritizes collective exchange, harm reduction, and embodied learning amongst BIPOC folks.

More Information
Friday 24th – Meet & Greet | 7:00–10:00 pm
To open the weekend, Caritia will host a relaxed meet-and-greet evening designed to help participants settle in and get to know one another. This open space will include gentle icebreakers, informal discussions, and shared snacks. The intention for the evening is to build familiarity and trust, set the tone for the weekend, and offer space to arrive as whole people before moving into hands-on practice.
Saturday 25th – Workshops | 11:00 am–6:00 pm (with a lunch hour)
Saturday focuses on building strong foundations. In the morning session, Caritia will guide participants through rope fundamentals, emphasizing both technical skills and the underlying principles of this practice.
Topics will include:
- Common rope terminology and shared language
- Health, care, and harm reduction practices
- Basic anatomy and considerations for safety and comfort
- Understanding the difference between friction and knots
- Stepping into simple structures
- Approaches to tying solo and tying with others
The afternoon session will shift toward Rope for Floorwork, exploring how rope functions in grounded, non-suspension contexts. We will look at:
- Positions and why they matter for everyone involved
- Skills for both tying and being tied
- Communication, awareness, and adaptability on the floor
This day is designed to offer a solid base that supports confidence, consent, and creativity in rope practice.
7:00–9:30 pm
The evening jam is an open, low-key space to practice what you’ve been learning throughout the day. Participants are invited to tie, be tied, observe, connect, and mingle at their own pace. This time is intentionally unstructured, offering a chilled-out environment to integrate skills, ask questions, and enjoy being in community.
Sunday 26th – Workshop & Lab | 11:00 am–6:00 pm
On Sunday, we move into exploration and play. Building on Saturday’s foundations, Caritia will facilitate exercises that invite participants to experiment with movement, touch, timing, and responsiveness in rope.
The day will include:
- Drills designed to build muscle memory
- Exploring movement on the floor, both seated and standing
- Finding adaptations that work for different bodies and needs
- Creating and working with simple harnesses
- Dedicated lab time for experimentation and practice
Participants with higher skill levels will be offered more complex tasks and prompts to challenge themselves, while still remaining within a supportive, consent-forward environment. Sunday emphasizes integration—bringing together technique, sensation, and personal style through guided exploration and self-directed practice.
BIPOC is an acronym that stands for Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, and all other non-white people who experience racialization. We use “BIPOC/POC” as a political term that recognizes our shared experiences under white supremacy and the distinct histories, struggles, and cultural identities within our communities. This definition honors the specific and ongoing impacts of anti-Blackness and acknowledges the diverse forms of systemic oppression faced globally, while affirming that all people of color experience racialized marginalization. Our intention is to create a space grounded in solidarity, healing, and collective empowerment for those who are not socially treated as white.
