This floor-based class will introduce playful bondage techniques, all centered around a shared objective: deliciously exposing the person in ropes. The session will leave room for creativity, allowing each pair to explore ways of exposing the other to provoke responses. (What feels exposing or intimidating to one person may not be so for another…)
The class offers tools and ideas to support each participant in discovering their own interpretation of what exposure in rope can evoke in both partners—whether that’s embarrassment, vulnerability, shame, or shared intimacy.
It will also be a space to explore the power dynamics that emerge through this type of bondage, as well as the reactions and emotions it can generate.
For a long time, the most visible images of shibari were of individuals with a female gender expression (whose bodies conformed to hetero-patriarchal beauty standards), tied by individuals with a male gender expression. In recent years, more diverse representations have begun to gain visibility, and the practice is slowly becoming less stereotypical.
Bänana and her partner strive to create a class environment where everyone—regardless of gender, expression, or the dynamics of their relationship—can feel safe, seen, and welcome.

Who is this event for?
LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity, meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Friends describes people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity, needs, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community.
When you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender straight privileges.
Friends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all pro-actively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
