Most students begin their shibari learning with foundational techniques such as single & double column tie, frictions, knots, and basic forms. In this class,
Naoko will share how she started learning – her first lessons were about nawa sabaki (rope handling) and how to use rope to communicate. Rather than focusing on techniques, this class will explore the sensibility of tying. The session will be a mix of demonstration and hands-on practice (time permitting).
Topics include:
* Different uses of nawajiri (rope ends) — exploring “give and take,” seduction, seme and others.
* Expanding the use of shiten no nawa (anchor ropes) — how positions and angles change the communication.
* Deep dive into tension — understanding it not as absolute measure of tightness, but as a variable in relation to the model’s reaction and the moment.
* Appreciating the dominant role of rope handling and the relatively minor role of frictions and knots.
Note: As per request this session is recorded but the link will only be given to participants who participated in the live class. We are therefore labeling this session as generally “without recording”.
