A two-day weekend that takes you from “I have a harness and a hardware store’s worth of questions” to confidently getting a body off the floor, and having fun once it’s there.
This weekend bundles the core of our Rope in the Air series into one workshop. On day one, you learn the technical foundations of suspension: lines, locks, attachments, and how to keep everyone safe. On day two, you learn how to play with them: movement, predicaments, and a little power exchange. Most of the work happens in partial suspension, which means the floor stays close and the learning curve stays friendly.
This is a paired workshop, please find a partner beforehand. The ticket price is per pair. Please note that this is not a beginner class: you should already be fluent with single and double column ties, frictions, suspension-worthy harnesses, and be able to communicate about safety (hand checks, nerves, troubleshooting).
Join us for the full weekend, or pick the day that suits you best:
- Get Your Saturday (Lines & Lift-Off), only ticket here.
- Get Your Sunday (Play in the Air), only ticket here.
Lines & Lift-Off
The first day of our suspension unlocked weekend is for technical nerdery, safety considerations, and gently easing into your first full suspension. You will get suspension right before getting it fancy.
We will walk you through the hardware and technical safety side: how to choose gear you can trust, how to attach suspension lines to a harness, and how to lock off main and secondary lines on rings, bamboo, and carabiners (including what to do when your rope jams).
Once the lines behave, we put them to work. You’ll practice attaching a harness to a main line, adding limbs with secondary lines, and working in partial suspension, solo or partnered. Then we ease into a gentle introduction to going completely airborne: how to protect the body from injury, what to do when things go sideways, how to communicate before, during, and after, and how the angle of the body changes the whole experience. The goal is the feeling of being suspended, not a heroic photo or acrobatic manouvers.
You can attend Lines & Lift-Off solo or with a partner.
Take Aways:
- Suspension hardware and technical safety
- Attaching suspension lines to harnesses: single column tie, Y hanger, yuki knot bite saver
- Lock-offs on ring, bamboo, and carabiner
- Main and secondary lines
- Physical and emotional safety in suspension, and how to communicate
- Partial suspension practice
- Leaving the floor completely with a side suspension
Play in the Air
Sunday is where the suspension lines start to add to the fun. Some people like static suffering in suspension, some people want to move around and dance. This day is for discovering the opportunities verticality brings to your bondage.
Suspension lines are not useful only for getting into the air, they also bring a new element to your floor based sessions. We start with a warm-up in partial suspension, using the rope for leverage and figuring out how to move a body around with the least amount of effort (yours and theirs). We will explore how to create exposure and connection with simple suspension lines.
Then we get playful. We’ll practice predicament shapes, where something always sucks and you get to choose how. We will also play rope games to keep things interesting and find new dynamics to explore. You will learn how to collaborate as a bottom – and how to not.
We will explore face-up and leg opening positions, predicament, movement, and restriction. All of it is done in partial suspension, so you can keep your focus on each other instead of stressing about the rope.
You will need a partner for Play in the Air.
Take Aways:
- Moving bodies with suspension lines
- Restriction & power exchange on the vertical plane
- Rope games & fun
- Predicament shapes in partial suspension
- Face-up partial suspension
- Leg opening partial suspension

More Information
Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Send us a message as soon as you know that you will be late. Once the class has started we do usually not allow entry, unless we know you are late for a valid reason (unforeseeable circumstances). You cannot transfer your ticket to another class. If you are not sure you can come, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it.
You have to be able to tie at least one suspension worthy upper body harness that can be suspended from different sides (front, side, back) – for example a TK/gote, arms front harness, arms free harness. If needed, the teacher will help you modify the harness so it is safe for suspension. You will also need to know a hip harness that can be lifted from the front. If you don’t have the skills needed, we recommend attending our Rope Structures series or the Shibari Structures Toolbox weekend workshop.
LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity, meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Friends describe people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity, needs, and boundaries of a queer space and its marginalized community.
When you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone's self-expression and do not assume, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people's chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges.
Friends don't have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
