A rope hangout is a welcoming, peer-to-peer space where we research rope together, connect, and explore in a relaxed, pressure-free atmosphere, no matter your experience level. All forms of rope bondage (Japanese inspired shibari/kinbaku, western style bondage, decorative macrame…) are warmly invited.
Whether you feel like tying or simply being present, you’re welcome here. Enjoy non-alcoholic drinks, snacks, and easy conversation — sometimes just showing up is enough. There’s no pressure to perform, teach, or know anything in advance. Curiosity and your (imaginary) lab coat is all you need to bring.
What should we take into consideration with tying outdoors? What are the best outdoor tying spots in Berlin? And if the weather is nice – have you tied in the Karada House garden yet?
The theme is an open invitation rather than a guideline. You’re always encouraged to follow your own interests, bring questions, share experiences, or simply observe and take it all in. The space is shaped by what each person brings into it.
Note: This is not a rope jam/play space. Rope Hangout is a peer learning environment.
6.45 pm – 7:10 pm Doors open
7:15 pm – 7:45 pm Starting circle, info, and introduction round
7.45 pm – 10:00 pm Peer learning, research, and social hangout. Space is chatty and there is no music.
If you are late, please send us a message on info@karada-house.de. We will not let anyone in after the introduction round has started (~7.30 pm).
Your role as a participant is to share your knowledge, get inspired by other people, and research rope together. You ask for help from other participants and help others whenever needed, especially in risky or emergency situations. There is at least one facilitator present for the entirety of the hangout. The role of the facilitator is to take care of the space and safety. You can ask them to spot for you if you’re exploring something risky, but they are not a teacher.
Welcome to the hangout <3 You can attend at any time of your rope journey. At the beginning of the event, you will be asked to share a name, your pronouns, and what you want to research, learn, or teach. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn!
You can come with a friend or attend alone and find buddies when you get there. If you feel socially awkward, you can always ask the facilitator to help you navigate the event.

LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity, meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Friends describe people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity, needs, and boundaries of a queer space and its marginalized community.
When you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone's self-expression and do not assume, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people's chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges.
Friends don't have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
