Radical Care Club – Peer Support Meeting

2. April 2025, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Radical Care Club is an open peer support meeting at Karada House. The club is for TLGBQIA+/queer people. Meeting topics for each evening are decided by the group. We will talk about things like:

– Figuring out your gender and/or sexual identity, or finding support and resources around those topics
– How to deal with and take agency in the current political situation locally and globally
– Support for and advice on handling microagressions and phobic behavior (for example with relatives, in the work place, and with government agencies)
– Being seen, heard, validated, and celebrated for who you are and how you feel

Topics can be discussed in the whole group or we can divide into pairs/trios to get more speaking time.

How it works

1. Opening circle, 20 min
– Code of conduct
– Round: Name, pronouns, how are you feeling
– Do you have a topic you would like to bring in for conversation? This can be a broader topic like how to handle something political going on, or it can be specific to you like needing advice or validation on something.

2. Deciding on a topic(s) for the meeting, 5-10 min
– We choose together what we want to discuss. If it’s a big topic, we will only have time for one. If there’s multiple small topics we can cover 2-3.
– If the need is to be heard: share in the big group. Others offer validation and empathy.
– If the need is advice: share in the big group, then we divide into pairs or trios to think about what can be done (and share similar experiences).
– If the need is political venting: introduce the topic in the big group, then divide into pairs or trios to talk about how we feel and find ways of having more agency (even in small ways)

3. Dividing into pairs/trios for peer support, sharing, hearing, and brainstorming OR staying in the big group for some or all of the time, 60 min

4. Round of sharing all together on what came up in the small groups or to summarize conversation in the big group, 10-20 min

5. Thank you & goodbye, 10 min
