Second law of thermodynamics

15. September 2024, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm

This workshop is all about embracing entropy, aka chaos, in your tying. We will figure out the essential structures, only to take them apart and break the rules. The goal is to find new kinds of creativity in tying (with the risk of failing spectacularly). Ceci will guide you through the process with clear drills that give your chaos a framework. You can take your creations up in the air or keep them firmly on the ground.

Partner: Emory

Format: research lab

Minimum knowledge level: You have experience in tying and being tied in structured harnesses and know how to assess for risks in ropes. If you plan to suspend, you need to be fluent with your suspension lines – they should flow out of your hands without thinking. If you plan to be suspended, you need to be able to handle your body in a way that keeps you safe (enough).

Maximum amount of participants: as many as fit

What to bring: At least 10 ropes (depending on what your body needs), safety equipment

Constellations: all constellations welcome

Accessibility: any accessibility needs can be incorporated into the chaos
