Kanna & Kagura縄師 神凪 Nawashi Kanna(X-gender) and 神楽 Kagura are Japanese queer rope couple that have been together for 14 years. They have traveled around the world to teach and perform Japanese Kinbaku Kanna succeeded from 明智伝鬼 Akechi Denki and has developed. Kanna style is semenawa style which draws inspiration from Hojojutsu 捕縄術, is very restrictive and includes complete control of the body and often plays with the breath. “We believe that rope has no gender or borders, and rope should be for everyone, and could be fun for both the rigger and the model.”

This workshop/research lab series by Kanna & Kagura aims to work towards diversifying Kinbaku/Shibari/rope and making it more accessible to all bodies, sizes, shapes, ethnicities, ages, and genders in a positive, empowering way.

Enjoy challenging rope practices in a healthy and comfortable way that caters to the needs of your body and your heart. ♬︎♡

This new series is based on your requests! It is not a pre-designed workshop/class where there is a base pattern and the main focus is on teaching it, and then checking, correcting, and suggesting to each person, to find the correct answer that already exists.

This series is a laboratory in which you will experience the process and thinking that goes into an answer that you pose. Together with Kanna  & Kagura, you will explore a way to find an answer to your specific question and/or needs.

Note: We will work mostly with common knowledge and not highly advanced techniques that require the prior acquisition of skills and knowledge. We will not require special equipment or furniture that is not available to everyone everywhere in order to keep the lab accessible for everyone. Furthermore, the current situation of Covid-19 in Japan makes it unsafe and flat out impossible to work with different models of various body types and genders as it is too dangerous. We apologize. Whereas we cannot provide the representation we wished to provide for safety reasons, we nevertheless wish to share our vast knowledge and we also have various ways to improvise and demonstrate.

This event is for a single class. If you’d like to purchase the entire series for a reduced price, please click here.

Part 5: “Approaches to Tying Larger Bodies” (June 26th, 2021, 2 pm CET)

As mentioned in the first and second series, there are many different approaches to similar shapes and positions for people with larger bodies.
In this class, let’s do Shibari with less burden and more ropes so that any person can enjoy the same system of torture and suspension!

Prior study of Hojo TK of Semenawa class in the first series (or predicament class in the second series) is recommended.
