More Information
It is absolutely alright to not have any experience with this beforehand. Suspension is multifaceted and it’s impossible to predict the outcome. In Luna’s opinion, once you have been pierced for the first hook you have already taken a step that most people will not and I hope that you do not push yourself beyond that for which you are ready. Luna will coach you as much as she knows how but does not consider it a failure in any way if you cannot lift off. There is much to gain at any level of the experience.
This is one of the most difficult questions to answer because everybody’s experience of pain is subjective and greatly informed by your lifelong relationship with it. What Luna can tell you is that she uses the sharpest, highest quality needles on the market. She has developed a confident piercing technique over her 18+ years as a professional piercer, and is highly empathetic as a person who regularly does suspensions over the last 13+ years. We will do some breathing exercises to help you relax for the piercing as much as possible and it will be done in less than an exhale. Most people say that it hurts less than expected and Luna believes pain can be a great source of wisdom.
There is lots happening before we are in the same room together for your suspension. Luna takes great care in selecting the implements used for piercing as well as making sure that the equipment she uses is more than suitable for what we are doing. Everything we use for piercing is sterile, including the gloves we use for the piercing procedure. together we will choose the most comfortable and appropriate spot for the piercings by massaging and pinching the area. then your skin is cleaned and prepared for piercing. You lay down on a massage table previously prepared for you and we make temporary piercings immediately followed through with sterile hooks. The hooks are attached to rigging equipment which is set up and inspected before the event. Then, when you are ready, we slowly lift you into the air at the pace you choose. Once you decide to come down we gently bring you either on your feet or directly onto the massage table where we will clean your wounds, massage your back in case of any air pockets under your skin, and dress your wounds along with any requests you have for your specific needs.
If privacy is important for you, please let Luna know. Aside from the person assisting Luna on the day of your suspension and the person holding the ropes (which could be the same person), no one else needs to be there to make this happen. You can bring people who you would like to accompany you and it’s important for me that we are all there in service of your experience. You decide. In the case of a suspension day where more than one suspension is scheduled, this can all be negotiated and has been designed in a way that you can have the privacy you need.
We will take care of your wound cleaning and dressing on the day of. You do not need to change your bandages throughout the day unless they are soaked in blood. Keep your wounds clean and dry. Bandages aren’t necessary after a couple of days and only if you are still bleeding. Do not pick at any scabs as you heal, they will fall off on their own. Beyond this aftercare is tailored specifically for you and your lifestyle. We will discuss this in detail during the encounter where Luna can answer your questions.
LGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity, meaning: lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/fluid, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender.
Friends describe people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity, needs, and boundaries of a queer space and its marginalized community.
When you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges.
Friends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
