Event Details

Bodies, movement, flow and forms – in order to capture the human body in all its delicacy and liveliness, a photographer must surrender themselves into the moment and connect with the human subject(s) at hand. How do you make good photography of the human condition in all its raw fleshiness?

Photographer René de Sans has been striving to find artistic and creative answers to these question for a long time. His photography is based on connection, the spirit of the moment and the (re)interpretation of the imagery at hand. What he seeks is intimacy in forms of expression that defy norms of visual expression, of gender, body images and sexuality.

Together with René you will spend 2,5 days deeply delving into the depths of body & movement photography. You will learn about the following subject matters in depth:

• lighting and equipment

• technical stats, best practices for different situations

• staging static scenes

• angles, framing, image details

• dealing with dynamic scenes

• how to capture bodies

• styles, diversion, going against the grain to create unique images

• finding/defining/refining your style

• engaging with & directing you photography model(s)

• model release forms and other organizational things to think of

• selection process of the raw material

This masterclass will provide you not only with thorough knowledge of all subject matters needed but also provide you with models to shoot and prepared scenes and scenarios – static and dynamic – to exercise and try out your camera and eye. There will be a constant revision and feedback process within the masterclass to help you improve, learn and find you own unique way of artistic expression.

This masterclass is designed to teach you everything you need to know so you can move forward in your own process without being dogmatic or rigid. Everything is about the flow and the connection. To yourself, your camera and the humans in front of your lens.

In order to give every participant a thorough training and lots of time to photograph, the number of participants is very limited.

Requirements:

This masterclass is designed for all knowledge levels. You must bring your own camera and you must know it very well to follow certain parameters and adjustments (like ISO, shutter time and white balance) that will be needed.

Facilitator

René de Sans (she/her)

René is a visual artist with a focus on photography and film. She first came into contact with rope bondage in 2013 while modeling for private lessons and started to develop tying skills with self-tying. Eventually, she also started to tie others and finds herself comfortable on all sides of the ropes.
