SUMMARY:Rope Fundamentals: Moving Bodies
DESCRIPTION:Rope isn’t static — people move\, and so should your tying. Learn to guide and follow movement through levers and spirals. Practice safely helping your partner transition between positions like sitting to standing\, or moving limbs mid-tie. \n  \nRope Fundamentals\nStart here if you’re new to rope\, want a solid foundation of shibari skills\, or need to get back to basics. You’ll learn the “what” and the “how” of tying: handling your rope\, basic knots\, simple harnesses\, and how rope can connect bodies and moods. We keep it relaxed\, safe\, and supportive.

SUMMARY:Escapism
DESCRIPTION:Who’s been there? You spend twenty minutes tying the cleanest\, prettiest gote of your life… and the person in ropes looks at you\, shrugs\, and casually wiggles themselves out like it was never that serious. Humbling. Kind of funny. And devinately annoying. \nThis workshop leans directly into that irony: shibari is often not inherently inescapable. So what happens when we stop pretending it does? Escapism is a lab-based\, curious\, slightly mean-spirited exploration of tying specifically for the purpose of not being able to get out. Not decorative rope. Not “it’ll probably hold.” Rope designed to trap\, frustrate\, and quietly ruin someone’s confidence in their escape talent. \nWe’ll fuck around with: \n\nMinimal rope vs. obscene amounts of rope\nSimple ideas pushed way too far\nPredicaments that look stupid until you’re inside them\nMean little concepts that rely more on physics\, leverage\, and bad choices than pretty patterns\nWhat if the smartest escape route becomes the worst option?\nWhat if struggling actively makes things harder?\nWhat if the tie isn’t complex at all — just deeply unfair?\n\nExpect experiments. Some will work. Some will fail hilariously.

SUMMARY:The Cocoon
DESCRIPTION:A cocoon isn’t meant to capture you. It’s meant to give you space to evolve. \nThis session looks on that contradiction: how do we tie someone into a neat\, intentional package while still leaving them space — physical\, emotional\, psychological — to breathe\, soften\, and feel safe? What makes restraint feel containing rather than confining? Does a cocoon need to involve the whole body\, or can it be partial and still effective?  We’ll experiment with nets\, wraps\, and shapes that create an inside — a place to retreat into — rather than something to fight against. \nThe Cocoon explores: \n\nRope as shelter rather than trap\nThe balance between immobilisation and internal freedom\nHow structure\, pressure\, and negative space change the emotional tone of a tie\n\n

SUMMARY:Fuck Around and Find Out - Unhinged and Sadistic Rope
DESCRIPTION:A class on sadistic play in rope that isn’t about traditional suffering/ semenawa – more a celebration of the unhinged\, mischievous and experimental. Pretty much a session to explore those ideas you wondered about but maybe felt a bit too unsure to try. The things which you weren’t sure if it would work because they either sounded too silly\, chaotic or impossibly mean.\n\n\nWhat happens if I tie your (x) to your (x)? What if I take this and tie it in your…? Would this bizarre set up work as a predicament? You get the gist. In this session Sophia will demonstrate a selection of the things that “succeeded” when she decided to fuck around and find out\, showing some of her favourite ways to be mean and unhinged during more sadistic style play Feel inspired and/or horrified depending on your mood and proclivities. You will most likely be entertained if nothing else.

SUMMARY:Renée de Sans x Ken Mai: Empty Rope – Vernissage & Performance
DESCRIPTION:Empty Rope is a vernissage and performance evening in which ropes meet butoh. The evening consists of a two part butoh performance by Ken Mai\, exhibition opening talk by Renée De Sans\, and free mingling while viewing the art. \nParticipants of the Ken Mai – Metamorphosis workshop have free entry. \nEmpty Rope –Photography Exhibition by Renée de Sans\nIn Empty Rope\, Renée de Sans explores Shibari by separating its two essential elements: the rope and the human body. Though inherently intertwined in this practice\, they are presented apart – uncovering new meanings and tensions through their disconnection. \nThe exhibition consists of two photographic series. The first captures Shibari patterns shaped into sculptural forms\, floating without a body. Empty ropes emphasizing the craft and geometry of the technique\, an object of design and intention. \nThe second series portrays bodies marked by the rope – traces of pressure\, memory\, and sensation – yet free from the ropes themselves. Shaped by past restraints\, these bodies evoke the emotional depth of rope bondage beyond its physical presence. \nThrough this contrast\, Empty Rope questions how much soul remains in a rope no longer tied to skin\, and how much emotion a body can carry when liberated from its bonds but still echoing their form. A reflection on the delicate balance between presence and absence\, control and release. \nRestriction Liberation – Performance by Ken Mai\, assisted by Ceci Ferox and Renée de Sans\, music by Ghost Acres\nIn dialogue with the photographic works of Empty Rope\, this two-part performance by renowned Butoh artist Ken Mai delves into the unseen forces of control and the paradox of liberation through bondage. Moving through states of stillness and intensity\, vulnerability and resistance\, Ken Mai explores the residue of restraint — how the body remembers control\, even when the restraints are gone. \nThe first part is an exploration of invisible boundaries: bodies moving within imagined constraints\, shaped by memory and internalized limits. The absence of rope becomes its own tension\, invoking the question—can we be restrained without visible bonds? \nThe second part turns toward transformation and release. With fluid motion and ritualized gesture\, Ken Mai embraces the rope not as confinement\, but as a tool for liberation. What once restrained now becomes a source of joy\, support\, and expressive freedom. \nRestriction Liberation is not just a performance—it is a living echo of the exhibition’s central themes. It embodies the delicate interplay between presence and absence\, pain and beauty\, surrender and selfhood.

SUMMARY:Erotic Body (‘Mis’) Handling
DESCRIPTION:In rope classes body manipulation is often taught to make things easier…smoother…for more cooperative and fluid transitions. In this session we will explore body handling from a different angle – turning towards discomfort\, intensity and the erotic potential of pushing\, pulling and using a body in awkward and challenging ways. We will play with using our whole bodies in combination with rope to find simple ways to use pressure\, imbalance\, and awkward or forced positioning to amplify power dynamics\, physical intensity\, and emotional charge. \nWorkshop partner: Renée de Sans \n  \nFormat: workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: \nparticipants:  \nWhat to bring: \nConstellations: Partnered\, Groups \nOkay to watch passively?: Yes \nAccessibility:

SUMMARY:Rope for Sex
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes rope isn’t the main dish\, it’s the appetizer to make way for practical\, pleasurable play… \nIn this session\, we will explore simple and effective ties for exposure\, eroticism\, and stimulation\, learn crotch ropes for different bodies\, and how to simply incorporate toys into rope. We will be curious about what desire and sexuality look and feel like for each of us\, and how we can bring more of what we find erotic into our tying practice. Less technical tying\, more hot sexy rope! \nWhat will happen in this class?\nThis class will not be a rigid ‘step by step’ but more creative ideas and inspirations for you to explore at your own level\, you will be able to participate in this class whether you are a beginner or more experienced with rope. \nConsider everything you use in the workshop could potentially be in contact your/your partners genitals so be mindful of the type of rope you would like to use or bring. \nYou can also bring any toys or materials you would like to explore or incorporate in your play – this could be pegs/twine/chopsticks/shoelaces/underwear etc. We can really be creative with what we tie with.

You can either tie yourself or another person\, switching will also be a part of this class. \nYou do not need to bring any ropes as we will provide workshop ropes for you. \nYou can also spontaneously come by on the day and purchase a ticket online right up to the beginning of the class if there is space left. \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Once the class has started we do not allow entry. You cannot transfer your ticket to another week. If you are not sure you can come\, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every Monday\, 7 pm-9.30 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: – \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nWhat we teach \n– Single-column tie \n– tension \n– wrapping \n– Double-column tie \n– little bits of history of Japanese (inspired) rope bondage \n– little bits of safety\, anatomy and psychological care \n– we will tie and play\, yippie \n  \nWhat happens next? \nIf you like what you are being taught\, we recommend repeating this class one or two more times so that you can develop muscle memory and a firmer understanding. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people. \n  \nWhat else to know \nBefore purchasing a solidarity ticket\, please check here if you are eligible for one.
