SUMMARY:Teaching Shibari & Accessibility
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis discussion will be focused on debating how we can make Shibari more accessible to different types of people. Listen to folks who need accessibility for their rope journey while learning and sharing Shibari. This discussion is a door opening towards a new generation of Shibari practitioners\, teachers\, instructors\, and students who share together their thoughts\, processes\, struggles\, and ideas towards a more accessible practice and environment. \n  \nFormat: Discussion \nMinimum knowledge level: – \nMaximum amount of participants: – \nWhat to bring: – \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: we will be sitting on the floor but other ways to sit more comfortably can be arranged

SUMMARY:Experimental Floating Hashira for Self-Tying
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis experimental class for self-tying enthusiasts will be focused on how we can use a floating hashira as a new element to play around and be creative. Pauline will show you how to anchor your bamboo vertically\, some up-lines anchors\, and demonstrate a few tricks and ideas of how you can incorporate this new element into your self-tying sessions. \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop\, experimental lab \nMinimum knowledge level: single and double column\, counter tension\, complex frictions. You need to know how to tie harnesses suitable for suspension\, and know and be somehow experienced with regular suspensions: managing the body\, handling up-lines. \nMaximum amount of participants: 12 suspendees\, Passive watching is welcome in this session\, you can also come and learn the anchors without self-suspending \nWhat to bring: 8-10 ropes\, new ropes\, or very little used ropes for the up-lines of the bamboo\, reinforced ropes are even better. Carabiners are welcome. Safety shears are a must. \nConstellations: solo \nAccessibility: This class is not suitable for participants who cannot self suspended on their own yet. I do not recommend this class for people who have wrist and shoulder injuries\, recent nerve injuries other injuries on tendons\, or deep weakness in the hands and arms. You can definitely do this class if you do not feel very strong\, but everyone should be aware of their own capabilities and limitations and adapt the content to their own possibilities and levels. This class requires a medium level of hand grip to practice some up-lines\, others are suitable for lower hand grip. If you get easily dizzy with single-point suspension\, there are ways the participant can practice the self-suspension with less spinning movement\, unlikely to be fully static.

SUMMARY:Leading To Be Tied – A Bottom-Centered Exploration
DESCRIPTION:  \nInspired by the “Better Bottoming Lab” full-day workshop organized in Barcelona by Espacionos – Pauline and Sophia offer this bottom-led session inviting you to explore more introspection to your experience being tied. Together we will discuss the value\, possibilities\, and influence bottoms have in a session – and work with some simple exercises to experiment with this in practice. \nThe session is focused for partnered tying – but also open for listeners and observers who wish to contribute solo. \n  \nFormat: Hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: This class suits any level as you will be tying on your level. \nMaximum amount of participants: No. Passive watching is welcome. \nWhat to bring: ropes \nConstellations: partnered\, groups \nAccessibility: we will be sitting on the floor but other ways to sit more comfortably can be arranged

SUMMARY:Maximalist Harnesses
DESCRIPTION:  \nMaximalist Harnesses are a style of tying that Pauline has been developing in the past years. \nThis style is characterized by prioritizing comfort but is also keeping it versatile for riggers and models to play with. You just need enough ropes and play around. It’s a very forgiving harness for more new riggers and suitable for most types of bodies. Especially for models who do not tolerate too much pain and pressure on their bodies or just want to feel cozy while tied up. Even for trans-masc folks it can be a nice start building a chest binder and help with gender euphoria about their chest. \nSome of those ties are suitable for self-tying folks\, except the harnesses that include the arms in. \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: single and double column\, counter tension\, half hitch\, complex friction ( X\, L\, or half moon). Anatomy and safety of course \nMaximum amount of participants: approx. 15 pairs (30 people)\, people watching but not participating are welcome \nWhat to bring: bring as many ropes as you’ve got \nConstellations: all constellations welcome (solo\, partnered\, groups) \nAccessibility: We will work intensively with the sense of touch\, this may be challenging for some participants. Exercises vary between standing and sitting\, but can be adapted for participants who struggle in either position.

SUMMARY:Rope for Performance\, Movement & Artistic Expression
DESCRIPTION:This intensive workshop topic focuses on the art performance as a form of expression and movement with ropes in the center. We will study the options that Rope Art offers to us beyond being a tool\, but a laboratory to experiment and create. \nAnyone can integrate art performance on their rope journey\, regardless of the desire to be a performer. Nevertheless\, it’s a powerful way to investigate and understand better our own rope practice privately and publicly. Pauline’s aim is to reach with each participant a balanced reflection of their own previous experiences and interests to create their own unique way to move\, express and perform through and with ropes. Shaping their own interdisciplinary self-expression style\, pushing the borders of what ropes can be/offer past the Shibari standards and meanings. \nParticipants will be presented with theoretical content and with hands-on exercises. This workshop must be viewed as a laboratory and experimentation process that will depend more on what the participant wants to play and work with than their own experience with ropes. Anyone of any background can participate in this workshop\, every technical exercise will be adapted and worked around each participant’s capabilities. We are not looking into creating classic patterns of Shibari Performance\, but we want to investigate what we really desire to perform and show to work it through meaningfully and thoughtfully. \n  \nPauline Massimo has created and directed multiple pieces where ropes and other art practices intersect\, besides their past experiences with other types of performances.\nThe main most recent ones are: “Lazos y Sombras”: 4 Shibari performers\, with movement and emotional interpretation of a concept. “Sincronicidad”: 5 performers (1 is a musician) telling a story that intersects experimental music live\, multi tying and parallel performances mixing Shibari\, Butoh\, and movement expression. And the latest one is “LIBRE” where Pauline has been performing with a co-performer as a human brush and body expression being the director of the painting or as a solo artist painting and self-tying while a violoncellist follows our movements and expressions with her musical experimentation\, the main point of this piece is the abstract expressionism in its rawest form within full improvisation being played by all artists. \nPauline has more than 10 years of experience in performance\, from cabaret\, classic and neo-burlesque\, circus ropes\, shibari performances\, live painting\, Butoh dance\, and other concept performance art. And most recently in the past 3 years\, they have been focusing on helping other artists to display their ideas and guide them to create their own artworks. As an organizer and curator for Espacio Nos\, performance art is at its heart and the goal of expanding the ideas of performative arts merging different universes together\, and creating a truly multi-dimensional interdisciplinary form by queer and marginalized artists. \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  August 27th\, 2023\, 10 am-5 pm CET (1-hour lunch break) \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to have basic tying skills. This workshop is for people with different backgrounds and knowledge levels and the workshop is centered in performance creation for all levels and less on patterns \nWhat to Bring: ropes\, any items you want to use in performance or expression\, safety equipment \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered or solo \nPrice: 72 Euros per person for the entire workshop \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. SUMMARY:Floating Hashira Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will provide the technical\, theoretical\, and practical basics to begin to understand vertical bamboo suspension (“Floating Hashira”). \nFloating Hashira was originally conceived as a concept by Akechi Kanna (Japan). In this class Pauline Massimo will teach their own rendition and techniques of this concept and will guide participants to find their most unique ways to self-develop in this style of using bamboo\, accompanying from basic to more complex fundamentals for all roles: models\, riggers & self-tying people. \nBecause of the dynamics of this intensive one-day workshop\, it recommends limited role-switching during the workshop.\nIf there is any concern about the movement of the bamboo as a single-point suspension\, there is a possibility to practice as a fixed hashira in case there is any available in the space\, or having the bamboo very close to the ground to avoid spinning. \nDuring the workshop it will not be mandatory to be tied in a Takate Kote if you don’t want to\, different possibilities will be offered so that everyone is comfortable and safer.\nNo harnesses will be shown. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  August 26th\, 2023\, 10 am-5 pm CET (1-hour lunch break) \nFormat: workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: \nIt is very important to meet the requirements for this workshop to ensure that the group is at a uniform level of practical knowledge.\nKnow about safety\, anatomy of the tied-up body\, risks of injuries\, accidents\, and how to act in each situation.\nHave a good understanding of single and double-column ties\, and basic and complex frictions. Know how to tie a proper harness suitable for suspensions on the chest and lower part of the body that the tied-up person finds comfortable. Know how to make suspension line locks either in rings or/and bamboo horizontally\, and have some experience suspending. \nThe model must have enough experience (as well suspended) and body awareness. Know how to communicate when something is not right and recognize the signs of a nerve injury and differentiate from the numbness of blood circulation. \nSelf-tying folks should fulfill all the requirements above in their role. \n  \nWhat to Bring: \nIt is recommended to have a uniform set of ropes of 7.5 meters or 8 meters and some shorter pieces\, if possible.\nDuring the course\, you will need approximately\n– 1 rope for the suspension line for the floating bamboo (must be new and sturdy and of good quality).\n– 3-4 ropes for suspension lines (preferably 1-2 of them should be as new as possible).\n– And the number of ropes you usually use to tie 2 harnesses on the body (average 4-6 ropes) and some extra shorter pieces may be needed.\n– Your own safety scissors. \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered \nPrice: 144 Euros per pair for the entire workshop \n  \nWhat we will teach you \n– Risks\, injuries\, and accidents: how to avoid and/or mitigate them.\n– Suspension line locking in vertical bamboo and fixed locks for hashira.\n– Demonstrations and exercises with static partial and low suspensions\, with static full suspensions and more complex dynamic suspensions.\n– Special attention to the anatomy and well-being of the tied-up body.\n– Adaptations and creative explorations. \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. SUMMARY:Restricted Movements
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, Pauline will introduce tools and frameworks for tying in movement for pairs/couples. Getting influences from different types of dances and movements applied to Shibari. We will use movement research and ropes as a tool for self-expression and guidance. \nThey will share movement exercises to warm the body and understand its own movement ranges.\nThen they will show more exercises with rope and movement for different levels of difficulty. \nLearn how to tie on the ground\, and play with the force of gravity closer to the ground and with the delicate line of imbalance while in different positions in movement.\nThe class will not imply suspensions but participants can play with a suspension point anchoring to create certain stabilities\, however\, the intent is not to create suspensions but play with the ground as much as possible in different ways. \nThis class is for mixed levels\, meaning there will be some requisites to be aware of before attending this class\, but generally\, all levels are welcome as well. Many topics shown could be applied and adapted to different levels of experience and interests. Pauline will advise during the class on which things could be harder or more complicated for more beginners\, and they will make sure that some complex topics and exercises will be covered for more advanced self-tying folks and paired participants. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  June 11th\, 2023\, 11 am-5 pm CET (1-hour lunch break) \nFormat: workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Understanding of single and double columns\, non-collapsible knots\, basic to complex frictions\, knowledge about possible injuries from being tied\, nerve compression and blood circulation issues\, risk profile\, and so on. \nWhat to Bring: You will need your own ropes and safety cutting tools. The number of ropes can vary for this class\, we could approximately count 3-4 pieces minimum\, ideally 6-8 pieces\, but it depends on how many layers you tie on usually. \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered \nPrice: 120 Euros per pair for the entire workshop \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. SUMMARY:Tying Larger Bodies
DESCRIPTION:Small rigger or larger model? \n“Tying Larger Bodies” is a specific class with universal knowledge and framework oriented to help smaller riggers tying anyone bigger and larger than themselves and for rope models who are larger and bigger than their rigger. \nPauline Massimo & Mabel will share lots of fundamental knowledge and technical skills that both of you need in order to seamlessly tie together. The class not only gives you principles but also goes into the topics of safety and how to get to know your body and its limits better. It also discusses how a well-balanced collaboration between the person tying and the person being tied could look like to help with the extra challenge and have lots of great rope fun. \nThe approach of this class is not style-specific but rather focuses on communication and collaboration that is suitable for every person and style and aims to help you have a more sustainable experience and take care of your bodies. \nThis online class will serve several ideas\, tips\, and a framework that Pauline has been working on with regular revisions and updates over the years. This will not be a follow-up class but more like an explanation behind why they do things in a certain way\, their approach\, and demos of how to handle it in a practical way. \nPauline considers this class a more intermediate level\, where participants should be knowledgeable about basic practical and theoretical concepts\, both rigger and model on their own parts. Is super important that each participant sticks to their level and comfort zone and explores in a more controlled and safer way\, taking time to practice and progress to happen gradually. \nEven though the class might have some partial suspension or full suspension\, Pauline encourages participants who do not suspend to participate and watch and get what they can and need to apply for their level. Almost everything can be adapted to different levels above total beginners. \n  \nAssistant & Model: Mabel (she/her) \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  September 2nd\, 2022\, 7 pm – 9.00 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & demo \nMinimum Knowledge Level: intermediate\, you should know all basics of rope and have experience in suspension to follow along; if you simply wish to watch and gain theoretical knowledge then you benefit from knowing basics of tying \nWhat to Bring: pen & paper\, rope\, and safety equipment if you want to tie along \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation works\, if you want to tie along you need a partner \nClass recording: Yes. This class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 14 days after the event. \n  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nFriends describes people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity\, needs\, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community. \nWhen you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and respect everyone’s self-expression and do not assume\, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all pro-actively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people. \nWhat else to know? \nSolidarity tickets are reduced-price tickets for people who cannot afford the full price. If the soli price is still to high for you\, please message us at info@karada-house.de \n

SUMMARY:Improvisation & Creativity for More Rope Fun II
DESCRIPTION:Improvisation and creativity are best friends and why not collaborate with both BFFs and create an interesting\, deep\, and joyful session along the way? \nThis is an experimental laboratory format\, not a formula. Pauline will share their thought when it comes to making a rope session go in different ways: fun but serious\, chaotic but steady\, surprising but safe(r)\, challenging but comforting. If you find it hard to improvise\, end up always following patterns\, or get anxious about being boring…maybe we can unlock that in this workshop series. \n  \nPart II: Fucking up Structures (on purpose) (June 29th\, 2022\, 7 pm – 9.30 pm) \nIn this class\, Pauline will go deeper into improvisational tying by constructing and purposefully deconstructing structures as well as sharing more ideas on tying with props and spacial possibilities. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  June 29th\, 2022\, 7 pm – 9.30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop \nMinimum Knowledge Level: suitable for all levels as long you know single and double column tie\, nodome\, and some frictions (X and half moon/L friction) \nWhat to Bring: pen & paper\, rope\, and safety equipment if you want to tie along \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation works\, if you want to tie along you need a partner \nClass recording: Yes. This class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 14 days after the event. \n  \nWhat we will teach \n-Safety first “This is your life”. \n– Preparation “ Is this what you want?”. \n– Can we break the rules? “bad habits”. \n– Mental aspects for exploration. \n– hands-on exercises for improvisation\, tools you might need. \n– “The element of surprise”. \n  \nWho is this event for? SUMMARY:Create Your Own Asymmetric Ties
DESCRIPTION:Asymmetry can give the body the peace and comfort needed when playing with ropes. Injured bodies\, trans bodies\, sensitive bodies\, tired bodies\, muscular bodies\, fat bodies\, all bodies can benefit from adjusting and working around certain areas with asymmetric ties. \nIn this workshop\, Pauline aims to share their reasoning for creating and building asymmetric ties\, so participants can find their own way to build them instead of following pattern-based instructions. Get ready to build your own asymmetric harness for rope play\, and unlock the creative process while maintaining a strong safe technique and construction for any kind of shibari session. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  June 23th\, 2022\, 7 pm – 9.30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop \nMinimum Knowledge Level: suitable for all levels as long you know single and double column tie\, nodome\, and some frictions (X and half moon/L friction) \nWhat to Bring: pen & paper\, rope\, and safety equipment if you want to tie along \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation works\, if you want to tie along you need a partner \nClass recording: Yes. SUMMARY:Pauline Massimo & Roser
DESCRIPTION:Pauline and Roser will share their experience of tying in movement: Restricted Movements. The fine line of restricting the body while it can move in many different ways creating an improvised dance between two dancing bodies restricted with a rope/s. \nPauline is experienced with different types of dances\, movement research\, and creative body expression\, and they have been mixing artistic movements with Shibari since their beginning when discovering the Japanese practice.\nAnd Roser has a short but going deeper experience with dances like Contact Improv and Butoh where she is connecting more with her own body without having any previous experience all her life\, finding new ways of expression besides her work as a photographer and Shibari. \nBoth will share some technical components to help and guide attendees to play with\, show some improvisation guidelines to work around on their own way when practicing\, and will demo all those concepts all together at the end. The class is practical for all levels of tying/being tied\, all bodies types\, body mobility\, and movement backgrounds(or lack of). They will offer a Q&A chat at the end with participants. \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: performance & discussion \nMinimum Knowledge Level: – \nWhat to Bring: yourself \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation\, works \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n

SUMMARY:Asymmetry on Bodies
DESCRIPTION:  \nPauline Massimo is back! \nThis time they will go deeper into the concept of tying with asymmetry. This workshop teaches different asymmetric harnesses/ties that are suitable also for suspensions. All harnesses/ties are based on a structural approach (not simply free-styling) that Pauline will teach in details\, so you can learn the principles behind creating asymmetry in tying. \nThe following harnesses/ ties will be taught: \nAsymmetric futomomo\nThis folded leg tie commonly known as futomomo is a variation of a classic tie with an asymmetric twist\, which creates not only an interesting feeling on the body but has a very curious way of construction at the technical level. \nPhysical requirement: Tied up person is required to be able to fold the leg together at some level\, but is not necessary to fully fold all together. \nAsymmetric bodysuit\nThis harness works around the trunk of the body (includes shoulder\, chest\, waist\, hips and thighs). This tie can be super helpful to create a wider support to the body\, dynamism for hanging points\, and comfort. \nPhysical requisite: Self tying person needs to be able to reach the back to create frictions. \nTK asymmetric harness\nThis TK/upper body harness variation runs away from classic aesthetics and structure. The asymmetry gives the body a different support feeling and we can avoid lower wraps on the arms. For a rigger it becomes a challenge regarding creating perfect tension but also a fun and flexible way to restrict and tie someone else. \nPhysical requisite: Model should be able to put their hands on the back like almost all TK’s style\, one should be healthy enough to have wraps around and some “pressure”\, and be able to have upper wraps around the arms. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  November 7\, 2020\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: \nPeople tying should be able to understand and tie single column / double column ties on different parts of the body in an efficient way using a bowline or other non-collapsible knot. Also understand and be able to tie basic frictions like counter tension\, nodomes\, etc. Knowing how to do X and L frictions is a plus. Everyone should be knowledgeable about physical and other damages like nerves\, circulation\, etc. Be able to communicate\, act and change possible discomforts and damages. No one should attempt to suspend any harness without proper instructions and knowledge\, including inexperienced models. \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to tie along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket)\, however as a single participant you cannot tie along the entire time \nClass recording: yes\, participants will not be recorded. The recording will be made available after the class for 14 days \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Asymmetry on Bodies
DESCRIPTION:This class offers a deep dive into an upper body asymmetric pattern/ tie\, that can function for suspensions\, aesthetics\, and playful purposes\, and at the same time taking into account the needs of each body and how we can adapt and personalize one pattern into many others. \nModel & assistant: tba \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: workshop & demonstration \nMinimum Knowledge Level: intermediate (Participants who ties needs to know how to tie basic knots and frictions\, know a non collapsable knot. All type of participants should be aware of nerve issues related. Self tying participants should be able to tie frictions on their own back.) \nWhat to Bring:  if you wish to participate you need ropes and safety gear  \nSolo or Partnered: both \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n  \nphoto credit: Pauline Massimo \nThe login details for this class will be sent to you via email shortly before the event.

SUMMARY:Tying Larger Bodies
DESCRIPTION:This advanced class is focused on how to suspend larger bodies more safely. We will discuss the variety of possibilities that can be taken and how to handle larger bodies in the air while doing dynamic transitions. This class is not about being a strong rigger\, nor about a model enduring undesirable painful ties or endlessly struggling in air time. \nThis class is about taking a lab approach (to what can be a complex topic) and finding practical solutions and tips for more enjoyable and less complicated ways to enjoy suspensions and transitions. We will use one exercise as an example to explore several points of discussion\, plus there will be model feedback/insight. This class potentially great for new suspenders\, as well as helpful in general for anyone interested in suspensions. \nModel & assistant: tba \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: workshop & demonstration \nMinimum Knowledge Level: intermediate (Participants rigging should know basic knots and frictions\, should know how to lock safely upper lines\, and how to tie basic pattern ties on their models that are sustainable and safer. Models and riggers should have knowledge about nerve injury issues and some knowledge about their own physical and technical limitations.) \nWhat to Bring:  if you wish to participate you need ropes\, safety gear and a hard point \nSolo or Partnered: both\, depending on whether you wish to tie along \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n  \nphoto credit: René de Sans \nThe login details for this class will be sent to you via email shortly before the event.
