SUMMARY:Kasumi Hourai – Foundations
DESCRIPTION:Kasumi Hourai is coming to Berlin to teach her unique traditional Japanese rope bondage style. Kasumi–san’s wabi–sabi concept\, style\, and variation is continually evolving and heavily influenced by a profoundly traditional upbringing with aesthetic roots in ikebana/kadō (flower arranging) and sadō/chadō (tea ceremony). She brings a refined\, haunting aesthetic\, combining elements of Japanese culture with Kinbaku as kyokuero (eroticism) and ku (suffering). Kasumi started her studies with Akechi Denki and continued her studies with Naka Akira. She has been tying for over 25 years at this point. \nIn order for you to dive deeper into her style\, we are offering two 2-day workshops. In January 2025\, Kasumi will teach the foundations of her style. On 18-19 October 2025\, Kasumi will return and build up on what has been learned in January diving into the aspects of connection and control which integrate and are inspired by the Japanese at of Ikebana. You can visit the January and October workshops separately\, however\, we strongly recommend participating in the first workshop to get the most out of the second. Karada House is offering a 10% discount if you purchase both classes together at once. \n  \nFoundations is a weekend-long workshop that will bring your rope practice back to some fundamental parts of classical Japanese rope bondage for an in-depth inquiry about all its little details. We will start by talking about the meaning and purpose of classical vs. modern Japanese rope bondage from the viewpoint of Kasumi Hourai. Then we will go into the intricate depths of classic Takate Kote structures and other patterns and variations such as hip harnesses. Day 1 will culminate in suspension work and semenawa floor play. The second day will go deeper into classic patterns and tying. We will explore little variations of the TK\, and work with Hishi (diamond) and Ashi( side) patterns and sequences.. At the end of the two days all participants will tie their partners in a community tying session. \nBy purchasing a ticket to this weekend’s workshop\, you are also on the guest list for Kasumi’s performance on Friday\, January 17th\, 2025. \nThere are also limited spaces for private sessions or lessons on January 21st\, 2025 available. \nModel for this Workshop: Tamandua \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 18-19\, 2025\, 11-6 pm (lunch break included) \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: Japanese with simultaneous English translation \nMinimum Knowledge Level:  \nFor the ones tying / riggers: \n– good understanding of fundamental techniques and concepts in Shibari / Kinbaku.\n– you must be able to tie a solid gote suitable for suspension\, in any style.\n– basic understanding of suspension line management\n– good understanding of rope safety\n– you must be open to exploring traditional Japanese concepts \nFor the ones getting tied / models: \n– you must feel comfortable being tied in a gote\n– you must have some prior experience in suspensions\n– a good understanding of safety in Shibari\, especially the difference between nerve compression and blood circulation loss\n– you must be open to expressing\, communicating\, and exploring vulnerabilities in rope\n– You must be open to exploring traditional Japanese concepts\, including with erotic context and ideas of suffering \nPlease note that switching is not possible due to time constraints and a cumulative teaching style. \nWhat to Bring:  \n– Jute ropes (at least 10-14 lengths of ropes\, 5-6mm in diameter).
