SUMMARY:Objectification with Rope Series
DESCRIPTION:Objectification has always been a widely popular fetish within the BDSM scene\, especially in connection with bondage. In this 3 part series hua hua will share her approach to objectification through the practice of Shibari\, making use of the versatility and ritual of rope to play with this fetish. Drawing from her experience as both an artist and dominatrix\, hua hua will guide you on how to mindfully\, creatively and effectively turn a willing bottom into a beautiful object of pleasure. We will explore how to celebrate the unique assets of the individual\, how to adjust your communication to dehumanize the bottom\, and understand how to play with different types of objects. \nPart 1: Introduction to Objectifying with Rope\nShibari is never just about restraining the person in ropes\, it can also be an act of presenting the person\, to feel seen and accepted as they are or even as a means to transcend their human form. As the top in the scene\, it is important to take care of your bottom; keeping them safe from injury\, ensure that the pleasure of objectification comes from both sides and to facilitate the space to allow them to let go of their walking talking self and fully commit to being an object. In the first part of the series we will explore how to take responsibility and care for your objects\, discuss why we desire to play with objectification and dissect the presence of objectification in the world of Shibari. The class will end with an improvised demonstration where hua hua will tie her model\, the students are then asked to share feedback on how objectification played a role in the session. \nPART 2: Sculpting\nIn the second class we will be exploring how the rope bottom can serve as an art piece for the top to sculpt\, shape and showcase. The aim for this part of the workshop is to expand our definition of aesthetics in Shibari as a way of exploring the beauty of the individual in your ropes. Drawing on the dynamic of artist and muse\, the class will focus on how to use rope to highlight/fetishise certain features\, what aesthetics give you both pleasure and how gaze can impact the model’s experience. Students are invited to tie along and present their pieces at the end of the class. \nPart 3: Furniture Play\nThe final class of the series will focus on how to play with dehumanisation and functionality. Human furniture has always been a popular fetish within BDSM especially in connection with bondage. However this fetish is often depicted with highly gendered (specifically feminine) shapes\, which can contribute to body dysmorphia and gender inequality. In this workshop we will explore how to transform them from human to furniture through a playful and collaborative dynamic. This part of the class will involve discussion of power play\, headspace\, ergonomics and how to communicate without breaking the model out of their role. After the demonstration\, students will make their own furniture and explore how to modify the demonstrated tie to make the most of their partner’s assets.

SUMMARY:Finding Balance
DESCRIPTION:Shibari is a world of contradictions; fulfilling the needs of the bottom when engaging in a power dynamic as a top\, playing with risk whilst also striving for safety\, and even exploring the kindness within cruelty. Problems often arise when an imbalance occurs such as: playing too dangerously and you run the risk of permanent harm\, yet playing too safe and left underwhelmed\, or focusing too much on the needs of your partner that you lose touch with your own desires. Finding acceptance of these contradictions\, and finding the sweet spot in between is where the fun really begins. \nIn my approach to practicing Shibari\, I believe good rope comes from a careful balance of attention between the aesthetics\, safety and play. It is natural to prioritise one of these criteria more than others\, but striving to find a balance between these all is what drives me and constantly challenges me to improve my rope and give my partner an all encompassing experience. \nIn this 2 day workshop we will be exploring balance in the different aspects of Shibari; the physical application\, communication\, aesthetics and also in how we choose to approach our own practice within this diverse culture. Through exercises with rope\, exercises without rope\, group discussions and demonstrations these two days will be a comprehensive introduction to my style and approach to Shibari. \nWhat topics will be covered \n– The artistic and erotic\n– Meeting the needs of both the one tied and the one tying\n– Aesthetics and Safety\n– The Physical and Emotional experience\n– Harmonious Compositions\n– Heritage and Innovation in the world of Shibari\n– Practice and Play\n– Mitigating risks when exploring limits\n– Combining soft and hard skills\n– distributing weight \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: April 12 & 13\, 2025\, 10 am – 6.30 pm \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level:  \n– writing material for notes (preferably not with a phone)\n–  at least a year of experience practicing Shibari\,\n–  prior experience with uplines for either partials and/or suspension (both models and riggers)\n– Comfortable with exploring semenawa\, sadism and edge play\n \nWhat to Bring:  \n– Come with a partner who shares your curiosity and can treat this workshop as a shared experience of exploration from both sides of rope\n– Honesty and self awareness towards your skill level and experience and limitations\n– No switching is allowed. SUMMARY:Archetypes of Shibari
DESCRIPTION:In this online series\, we will be exploring the ‘classic’ shapes of shibari\, which will be referred to as ‘archetypes’. Even though shibari is still early in its development\, there are already clear repeated patterns in its short history. These archetypes have become synonymous with the practice of shibari\, particularly rope bondage with a Japanese influence. Shapes such as Kata-Ashi Zuri (one leg suspension)\, Gyaku-Ebi Zuri (reverse shrimp suspension) and harnesses such as Gote Shibari (hands tied behind the back) are often repeated – let’s delve into why. \nWhat is an Archetype? \nAn archetype can be any of the following: \n1. a statement\, pattern of behaviour\, prototype\, or a main model that other objects copy\, emulate\, or “merge” into. You could also consider this a “standard example”\n2. the Platonic concept of pure form\, believed to embody the fundamental characteristics of a thing.\n3. a collectively-inherited unconscious idea\, a pattern of thought\, image\, etc\, that is universally present\, in individual psyches\, as in Jungian psychology\n4. a constantly-recurring symbol or motif in literature\, painting\, or mythology. This definition refers to the recurrence of characters or ideas sharing similar traits throughout various\, seemingly unrelated cases in classic storytelling and the media. This usage of the term draws from both comparative anthropology and from Jungian archetypal theory. \nBy looking at shapes as Archetypes\, rather than as an ideal form\, only then can we understand what is necessary to maintain or what modifications are needed to adjust to the individual experience. We will be exploring how to modify and choose variations depending on skill level\, risk assessment\, body differences\, aesthetics and what kind of mood or sensation you want to focus on. Each Archetype will also include options with and without suspension. The focus will be on adapting to the circumstances and dynamics rather than reaching for an ideal form. \nEach class will involve a detailed discussion about each Archetype’s aesthetics\, physical and psychological effect as well as how to play with them for different purposes such as versatility for transitions\, Semenawa or for sustainability. With demonstrations to show different variations and the option for students to also lab their own version of the archetype. \nThis series is suitable for all levels\, it is also particularly useful for those who are interested in teaching Shibari\, as the theory of archetypes this can help to create a more mindful and approachable pedagogy to Shibari education. It comes with an extra introduction video to be watched at your own time and discretion. \n  \nJanuary 11th: Gyaku-Ebi \nJanuary 14th: M-Shape \nJanuary 18th: Torsions \nJanuary 21st: Inversions \nJanuary 25th: Third Rope for Gote \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 11\, 14\, 18\, 21\, 25\, 4 pm- 7 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop/demo \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge level: Basic Knowledge of Shibari e.g some context of the culture and consent practices\, experience with simple knots and frictions if they wish to tie along \nWhat to bring:  Rope if you would like to tie along\, and participate with a partner. \nSolo or Partnered:  All constellations. The ticket price is per person. \nClass recording: Yes. The session will be recorded and available for 30 days after the last workshop. The participants will not be recorded. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop and discussion are held in spoken English with automated captions in English which are provided by Zoom. Communication within the class can be had via chat but also people can come on mic and speak. SUMMARY:Semenawa Series
DESCRIPTION:Semenawa is a concept in Shibari that is often misunderstood. \nSemenawa is often translated as ‘torture’ rope\, however\, a more accurate term might be to describe it as ‘torment’. The intention is for both the rigger and model to be consciously exploring suffering through rope\, however\, what can make it difficult to grasp is whether or not the suffering should feel pleasurable. Semenawa is often seen as something that must feel painful\, but suffering is not exclusive to pain. \nIn this three-part series\, we will be exploring the subtle nuances of creating a tormenting experience without compromising on our limits and safety measures. The focus will be on stirring up the inner torment of the individual experience\, rather than applying pain. \nPart 1 (July 9th\, 2024\, 7 pm-9.30 pm) \nIn this class\, hua hua will introduce her own personal approach to Semenawa\, which she’s developed through her studies with Naka Akira and integrated with my other practices. Semenawa is a state of mind rather than a style. hua hua will share how we can identify this state of mind through positions\, timing\, rope handling\, and communication. The workshop will end with a demonstration of Semenawa play with space for feedback and questions afterward. \nPart 2: (July 16th\, 2024\, 7 pm-9.30 pm) \nIn the second class of this series\, we will be focusing on the practice of patience and endurance in creating a Semenawa experience. The class will include exercises that can be tied on the floor without a suspension point. Students may choose to tie along with the class\, however\, this is only optional. \nPart 3: (July 23rd\, 2024\, 7 pm-9.30 pm) \nIn the final class of the series\, we will be looking at how suspension can be approached with the intention of Semenawa. To some extent\, all suspension can be considered ‘seme’ – when the model does not have any ability to support themselves\, they lose their ability to fight back against the will of the rigger. We will explore how this can be played with and the difference without partial and full suspension. hua hua and her model will demonstrate a scene\, It is advised to not tie along during the live. In the demonstration\, we will discuss what elements can be included depending on your skill level\, dynamic\, and pacing. Following the demonstration we will share feedback and hold a final group discussion. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  July 9th\, 16th and 23rd\, 2024\, 7 pm- 9.30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop/demo \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge level: Basic Knowledge of Shibari e.g some context of the culture and consent practices\, experience with simple knots and frictions if they wish to tie along \nWhat to bring:  Rope if you would like to tie along\, and participate with a partner. \nSolo or Partnered:  All constellations. SUMMARY:Archetypes of Shibari
DESCRIPTION:In this weekend workshop\, we will be exploring the ‘classic’ shapes of Shibari\, which will be referred to as ‘archetypes’. \nEven though Shibari is still early in its development\, there are already clear repeated patterns in its short history. These shapes have become synonymous with practicing Shibari\, particularly with a Japanese influence rather than drawing from Western bondage. Shapes such as Kata-Ashi Zuri (one leg suspension)\, Gyaku-Ebi Zuri (reverse shrimp suspension)\, and Gote Shibari (hands tied behind the back) are often practiced\, however rather than teaching with an ideal form\, in these workshops\, we will be eliminating the poses to their most essential intentions and expressions. The classes will each be demonstrated on different bodies and with different styles so that students are encouraged to practice a variation that most suit them. \nWhat is an Archetype? \nAn archetype can be any of the following:\na statement\, pattern of behavior\, prototype\, or main model that other objects copy\, emulate\, or “merge” into. You could also consider this a “standard example”\nthe Platonic concept of pure form is believed to embody the fundamental characteristics of a thing.\na collectively-inherited unconscious idea\, a pattern of thought\, image\, etc.\, that is universally present\, in individual psyches\, as in Jungian psychology\na constantly-recurring symbol or motif in literature\, painting\, or mythology. This definition refers to the recurrence of characters or ideas sharing similar traits throughout various\, seemingly unrelated cases in classic storytelling and the media. This usage of the term draws from both comparative anthropology and Jungian archetypal theory. \nBy looking at shapes as Archetypes\, rather than as an ideal form\, only then can we understand what is necessary to maintain or what modifications are needed to adjust to the individual experience. We will be exploring how to modify and choose variations depending on skill level\, risk assessment\, body differences\, and also on what kind of mood or sensation you want to focus on. Each Archetype will also include options with and without suspension. \nEach class will involve a detailed discussion about each Archetype’s aesthetics\, and physical and psychological effects as well as how to play with them for different purposes such as versatility for transitions\, Semenawa\, or more comfortable suspension. The workshop will also leave a large portion of space for discussion and labbing so that students have time to develop their own modifications. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 20 & 21\, 2024\, 11 am – 6 pm \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Familiar with tying harnesses for suspension and suspension line lock-offs. Recommended to attend with a partner that you have experience tying with. \nWhat to Bring: ropes\, safety eqiupment \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered. \nTicket: Price is per pair \n  \nWhat we teach/offer: \nDay 1: Gote and Kata Ashi\nWe will begin by looking in detail at different Gote variations including\, arms free\, stemless\, or stem Gotes. Then we will look at the single-leg tie (Kata Ashi) with options to tie on the floor\, standing\, or in suspension. \nDay 2: Gyaku Ebi and Mermaid (Torsion)\nWe will study different ways to tie the Gyaku Ebi (hogtie)\, on the ground\, from standing and suspended from the ground. After this\, we will look into how to create a twist in the body with the Mermaid position. \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. SUMMARY:Semenawa Weekend
\nIn this two-part workshop\, we will be exploring the subtle nuances of creating a tormenting experience without compromising on our limits and safety measures. The focus will be on stirring up the inner torment of the individual experience\, rather than applying pain. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 14th-15th\, 2023\, 11 am – 6 pm (1-hour lunch break) \nFormat: in-house workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: These classes are suitable for participants with more advanced experience with Shibari. Students must have experience with suspension\, particularly suspension with a Gote and be fluent with locking off suspension lines. There will be options available to tie on the floor and semi-suspension only. We also ask that attendants come with a familiar partner so that you are prepared with understanding of how to make adjustments suitable for them as well as feel comfortable to discuss more sensitive topics with each other.  No switching allowed. \nWhat to Bring:  minimum of 7 – 8 ropes of 7\,5 – 8 meters in length\, plus some short pieces if you have\, safety equipment\, comfortable clothing (something you would do movement in)\, questions\, and an open mind \nSolo or Partnered:  Partnered\, price is per pair \n  \nDAY 1 (October 14) 11:00-18:00 \nTIMING AND DISCOMFORT \nOn the first day we will focus on exploring what Semenawa means to you personally\, and how can we express this within our own partners and dynamics. We will begin to understand the suffering that can enrich the experience\, and what suffering can lead to a greater risk of harm both mentally and physically. In the afternoon session\, we will go further into dissecting how to explore edge play with mindfulness\, following a loose shibari sequence that can be adapted to your own skill set\, body requirements\, and dynamic. \n  \nPart 1: 11:00-13:30 \nIntroduction: hua hua’s personal approach to Semenawa \nDiscussion: What is Suffering to you? \nPhysical Practice: observing discomfort in your own body \nRope Practice: Sustainable Suffering \n  \nPart 2: 14:30- 18:00 \nDiscussion: Seme vs Torture \nExercise: Exploring limits \nDemonstration and Practice: Building up intensity \nFinal Demonstration and feedback discussion \n  \nDAY 2 (October 15) 11:00-18:00 \nSUFFERING FROM WITHIN \nThe second day is centered around the psychological play in Semenawa. This class is dedicated to space holding for authentic sharing and being vulnerable with each other. We will be doing exercises that focus on how to create an inviting and empathetic experience for bottoms to experience Semenawa. Participants are encouraged to come to class prepared for heavy discussion on their experience of suffering\, as well as any self-care methods if these discussions are triggering. We will then play upon these discussed topics\, giving space to let these buried emotions out in the ropes. The class will end with a final demonstration and feedback session. \nPart 1: 11:00-13:30 \nIntroduction: Focusing Inwards \nDiscussion: Exploring the suffering we carry within our bodies \nExercise: Setting up a ritualistic scene \nRope Practice: Putting weight into the tie \n  \nPart 2: 14:30- 18:00 \nDiscussion: Psychological torment \nExercise: Predicament play \nDiscussion and Practice: Exercising restraint as the rigger \nFinal Demonstration and feedback discussion \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. SUMMARY:Flat Suspension
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this workshop we will be exploring how to practice uplines and understand suspension positions without lifting off the ground. Instead\, we will be building shapes lying on the ground using points to the side to mimic the feeling of suspension. This class is suitable for those who are familiar with basic harnesses and frictions on the floor. \nIf you are new to uplines you are also welcome to join this workshop. Flat suspension can be easily recreated at home using heavy furniture or a bed frame. \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: basic knots and frictions. e.g single column tie\, double column tie and half hitches \nMaximum amount of participants: 8 pairs\, passive watching is welcome. \nWhat to bring: 4-8 ropes \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: we will be sitting on the floor but other ways to sit more comfortably can be arranged

SUMMARY:Responsibility Rope
DESCRIPTION:Responsibility is an important concept that needs to be paid attention to in a rope scene\, particularly when playing with Semenawa. This is actually the direct translation of the Chinese term for Semenawa ‘责绳’ so it creates an interesting perspective on how Semenawa can be a practice of exploring responsibility; over your own body\, limits\, actions\, and over others. \nIn this lecture/demonstration\, Hua Hua and her model will share the importance of accountability and autonomy when dealing with suffering in rope\, ending the class with a demonstration of their own semenawa style. \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: lecture & demonstration \nMinimum Knowledge Level: no prior knowledge needed\, prior interest in semenawa is encouraged \nWhat to Bring: – \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n
