SUMMARY:Open Rope Training (Intermediate): Durational Harnesses
DESCRIPTION:This bi-weekly intermediate open rope training is directed at building on what has been taught in the Beginner Open Rope Training. \nPlease note that the classes will be taught in different styles from this level onwards.  \nWe start the class intuitively by following individual impulses with rope. After that\, the main part of the evening we focus on the systematic management of rope\, body handling\, and safety principles: knots\, wrapping\, and aesthetic frictions. The material contains a wide range of harnesses for floor work and simple semi-suspension. It is strongly inspired by the shibari works of Japanese artists Dasniya learned from over the last fifteen years. There is time to switch roles to better understand restriction from both the perspectives of the person tying and the person getting tied so you can experience anything from sexy phantasies and meditative ties. \n  \nTopic of Exploration: DURATIONAL HARNESSES \nIn this workshop we will look at classical full body ties for simple suspension. The Hishi-structure is a gradually tightening mermaid shape which is helpful to understand specific decorative elements. It adapts to all bodies and is especially fun to untie wild and dynamically.\nDuring the learning process it needs some patience from the model\, but invites also to deep relaxation and dreamy rope drunkenness. \n  \nTeacher: Dasniya Sommer \nStyle: Dasniya’s basic rope style orientates strongly towards Japanese Kinbaku artists: Akira Naka and Kasumi Horai– whom she attended workshops with in Europe and Japan. Other inspirations are found in the work of Norio Sugiura\, and the legacy of Nureki Chimuo\, who can be considered the protagonists of this ‘school/their era’. The tying system is often considered to be an advanced technique. But with regular practice\, attention to detail\, and to safety an adapted version for European bodies and perspectives can be taught from scratch. It combines a mix of basic shapes\, improvising principles and it trains a sensitive intuition for consequent restriction. \nDasniya’s personal tying is also informed by her longtime dance training and Buddhist background. Rigging from the perspective of the moving body\, and mindful listening to impulses and resonance often create a meditative vibe to get high on ropes. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  November 26th\, 7 pm-9 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single-/double column tie\, basic frictions\, you need to be able to tie a box tie /TK\, simple up-lines \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible\, a set of 8 of your own ropes\, safety equipment \nSolo or Partnered:  preferably partnered but you can also partner up in the class with other solo people or tie yourself (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros per person \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Once the class has started we do not allow entry. You cannot transfer your ticket to another week. If you are not sure you can come\, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it. \nIf you know you will come to the open training more than just once\, please ask for our discount card! (For every 5 classes\, the 6th class is on us!) \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. The garden is only partially accessible at the moment. During the workshop\, we will sit on the floor. Sitting in a chair can also be provided. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nFriends describe people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity\, needs\, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community. \nWhen you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgment to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people. \n  \nWhat else to know \nBefore purchasing a solidarity ticket\, please check here if you are eligible for one. \n  \nPhoto:Liz Rosenfeld for the performance ‘Thank You For Your Effort Even If These Requests Cannot Be Fullfilled’

Predicament means to create a situation with options\, for example movement options\, in which every choice creates a consequence leading to more pleasurable ‚suffering‘. We will look at it using balance and off-balance postures which provoke falling into more demanding shapes. Beautiful and tender moments unfold when the partner in ropes start to express their torment in a deeply personal way. \n  \nTeacher: Dasniya Sommer \nStyle: Dasniya’s basic rope style orientates strongly towards Japanese Kinbaku artists: Akira Naka and Kasumi Horai– whom she attended workshops with in Europe and Japan. SUMMARY:Open Rope Training (Intermediate): Locked-In
DESCRIPTION:This bi-weekly intermediate open rope training is directed at building on what has been taught in the Beginner Open Rope Training. \n  \nTopic of Exploration: LOCKED-IN \nDuring this class\, we will explore shibari restriction to the point of consequent immobility. Technically focusing on adding step-by-step rope tensions\, and interconnecting possibilities of the up-lines/branchwork. Space for emotional/feeling-based experience and assessing limits play an important role in safety. It’s a fun ‘artist escape training’. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month\, 7 pm-9 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single-/double column tie\, basic frictions\, you need to be able to tie a box tie /TK\, simple up-lines \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible\, a set of 8 of your own ropes\, safety equipment \nSolo or Partnered:  preferably partnered but you can also partner up in the class with other solo people or tie yourself (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros per person \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. SUMMARY:Shibari Spa
DESCRIPTION:The idea is to balance the physical restriction with a warming stone massage. Or\, to mirror possible calmness of the mind in shibari on the somatic level. I am not an expert in ritualistic stone massage but a big fan of combining massage and ropework in general. \nThis workshop invites participants into a deep relaxation session. \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: warm-up session \nMinimum Knowledge Level: A few harnesses for playful bed bondage.\n \nWhat to Bring: 7-8 ropes\, flat stones (it can be specific basalt stones but also other non-scratchy stones). Oil and hot water which can be heated up during the session. \nSolo or Partnered: any constellation \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n

SUMMARY:Plastic Cocoons
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis self-tying/ self-suspension workshop explores alternative bondage narratives by integrating material/ plastic into the tie (dry plastic bags/waste). Carefully chosen ‘waste’ in terms of color\, size\, sensual texture\, and meaning. It probably needs a moment to enter a playful\, devoted relationship with this material and oneself. \nThe long-duration self-tie allows for taking pleasure in sensual resilience\, adapting to the plastic and its sounds. For the outside the scene gives space for questions: around the dynamic between un-/organic material\, consumption/printed bags or boxes\, or ‘expiry date’ of food packaging surrounding ‘bound flesh’. \nIn terms of rope technique\, we will work with (partial-) suspension on rings or on bamboo. Plus a supporting surface such as a thin bamboo\, a piece of plastic/wood to place the main weight on. \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Intermediate level. Participants should be firm with suspendable column ties and a suspendable futomomo. If they want to suspend themself they need to be familiar with locking of uplines on themselves. Otherwise\, I suggest following along but staying on the ground\, or using safe half-suspension. \nWhat to Bring: 7-12 ropes. If you like to suspend and if available more than one suspension point. Plastic: white /colorful shopping plastic bags (like the ones for veggies from the market).\nDry food packaging from noodles/rice/veggies. Can also be handbags\, disposable raincoats that can rip\, and colorful garbage. It could also be many yoga mats or blankets\, some material you like to deal with. A bamboo\, wood\, or metal barre to sit on. Going out with a friend and picking some in the street (which is not too yucky) can be fun and a nice preparation.\nBasically many of the same\, and what is visually interesting for you. Some music if you like. For safety friend or phone\, and scissors. \nSolo or Partnered: solo but partnered would work\, too \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n

SUMMARY:Forest – Playing with Ropes and Objects – A co-topping Workshop with Shibari Technique
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe workshop focuses on creating a tying session for trios (co-topping). We begin with a demonstration using intermediate-level ties and upline technique. As there is no obligation to strictly follow a pattern participants are invited to work on individual levels and intensities which feel appropriate to the constellation. Exercises will include playful tools for moving and restricting the partner in space. And for timing\, allowing sadistic fantasies to gradually unfold\, as well as care impulses to build a session-like scenery. \nWe will include objects and organic materials such as stones\, green or dry leaves\, and plants/roots. Some material will be provided\, but if possible please bring it along as well. \nTeaching assistants: Gloria and Jonas \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: Participants (person tying or being tied) should be familiar with a version of a box tie/TK with hands front or back + upline lock-offs. \nMaximum amount of participants: no \nWhat to bring: A set of 7-12 ropes\, some organic material such as stones\, leaves\, green plants\, roots.
a little cloth (tenugui)\, a small towel/cloth that can get wet\, and drinking water. \nConstellations: come as a trio \nAccessibility: We will work sitting on the floor but other more accessible arrangements can be made
