It is not a set of patterns or a “visual goal” but a way of interacting\nwith your partner(s) through rope\, a specific interview type\, if you want. \nIn this 3-parts workshop series\, Barkas and Addie will accompany the participants through the principles\, applications\, and variations of Ranboo\, while keeping a strong focus on safety. \nDisclaimer: The highly dynamic nature of ranboo comes with the potential of greater risk for injuries. We strongly recommend participants to watch the series in order and only \npractice exercises from the latter parts if they have proficiency in the basic techniques. \n  \nPart I Introduction (May 11th\, 2021\, 7-10 pm CET) \nIn the introduction\, we will get to know the key terms of ranboo and get familiar with movement and techniques to safely tie in this style. \n  \nPart II Next Level (May 18th\, 2021\, 7-10 pm CET) \nWe increase the pace and variation of distance and apply the principles learned in Part I to some standard patterns. \n  \nPart III Floor & Air (May 25th\, 2021\, 7-10 pm CET) \nRanboo on the floor is challenging due to various aspects. In this part\, we use these challenges to further familiarize participants with the concepts developed in the previous parts but on the floor. Some challenges of ranboo that appear on the floor are similar when we go into suspensions. Other challenges are added. SUMMARY:The Promise of Identity – Maps of Identification
DESCRIPTION:The landscape of different sexual identities is vast and more and more white spots on the maps are discovered\, created\, and surveyed. \nAlthough it became easier to travel between different areas on that globe\, one operation remains unthinkable: Not to identify with a certain sexuality seems as rare and problematic as being nationless. \nIn a sense\, entering an area of a specific sexual identity demands from us the enunciation of a promise. To identify\, after all\, can be seen as an orientation in a certain direction or to submit to certain rules of that identity. \nIs there a way to identify without a promise? How would that look like and ‘where’ would that be? \nThis is not necessarily a workshop but an exploration. After establishing a toolkit of the identity surveyor\, we will go together on a journey to find out if there can be a land that does not require a promise of entrance. In other words\, we will draw a map of sexual identities. \nProgram: After a brief introduction of ideas\, Barkas takes a large\, empty map and together we will draw a world map of sexual identities with the aim of abolishing borders. SUMMARY:The Interview Metaphor III: Advanced Communication Techniques
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe pursuit of ‘connective’ or ‘communicative’ rope is central to the experiences many of us seek in rope bondage. Despite this\, connection and communication as concepts are slippery to define\, tricky to exemplify\, and often tautological in explanation. Connection is not created by a set of actions\, by a particular pose\, by close proximity or touch. It cannot be prescribed\, nor\ndoes it rely solely on instinct. Much like learning basic steps of dance before building to allow improvisation\, there are techniques that help us to notice cues\, interpret them more aptly\,\nrespond constructively\, and evaluate the impact of our actions. \nIn early 2016\, Barkas laid out the first version of the Interview Metaphor\, a structure which\, among other things\, allows those who tie to identify and handle the elements in a scene and\nthus understand why certain actions might be more effective than others. This Metaphor formed the basis of Barkas’ book\, Archeology of Personalities: A Linguistic Approach to Erotic Rope Bondage. \nSince then\, the Interview Metaphor has grown and gathered friends – the Archive\, Reciprocity\, the City\, to name a few. Each of these concepts gives a fresh view into how scenes work\, how\npeople interact\, how power structures evolve\, and what we make of/build with our efforts and intentions. \nThis workshop series approaches the Interview Metaphor and associated structures chronologically\, starting with the Interview and adding complexity and layers of understanding\nin the same order in which the concepts themselves were formalized and introduced\, making this is a historical exploration of the evolution of rope theory as well as a practical application of\nconcepts. Demonstrations and exercises allow participants to practice and absorb concepts. As with all of Barkas’ and Addie’s classes\, there is emphasis on the education and contribution of\nboth (all) parties in the scene. \nPart III: \nAdvanced communication techniques. SUMMARY:The Interview Metaphor II: Grammar & Vocabulary
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe pursuit of ‘connective’ or ‘communicative’ rope is central to the experiences many of us seek in rope bondage. Despite this\, connection and communication as concepts are slippery to define\, tricky to exemplify\, and often tautological in explanation. Connection is not created by a set of actions\, by a particular pose\, by close proximity or touch. It cannot be prescribed\, nor\ndoes it rely solely on instinct. Much like learning basic steps of dance before building to allow improvisation\, there are techniques that help us to notice cues\, interpret them more aptly\,\nrespond constructively\, and evaluate the impact of our actions. \nIn early 2016\, Barkas laid out the first version of the Interview Metaphor\, a structure which\, among other things\, allows those who tie to identify and handle the elements in a scene and\nthus understand why certain actions might be more effective than others. This Metaphor formed the basis of Barkas’ book\, Archeology of Personalities: A Linguistic Approach to Erotic Rope Bondage. \nSince then\, the Interview Metaphor has grown and gathered friends – the Archive\, Reciprocity\, the City\, to name a few. Each of these concepts gives a fresh view into how scenes work\, how\npeople interact\, how power structures evolve\, and what we make of/build with our efforts and intentions. \nThis workshop series approaches the Interview Metaphor and associated structures chronologically\, starting with the Interview and adding complexity and layers of understanding\nin the same order in which the concepts themselves were formalized and introduced\, making this is a historical exploration of the evolution of rope theory as well as a practical application of\nconcepts. Demonstrations and exercises allow participants to practice and absorb concepts. As with all of Barkas’ and Addie’s classes\, there is emphasis on the education and contribution of\nboth (all) parties in the scene. \nPart II: \nGrammar and vocabulary of the interview. In this part\, we will see how much we can borrow from the realm of verbal communication and how we can implement concepts such as interruption or punctuation in order to have more meaningful scenes. DESCRIPTION:  \nIn Barkas’ approach to rope\, what one does with rope is not as important as knowing how or why one does it. In the end\, the aim is to move each other’s hearts. Thus\, it seems almost obvious to make movement a big part of a rope scene. A rope pattern that suits and accentuates every body type and presentation\, with emphasis on making the person in rope feel\, and therefore emanate\, beauty. \nContent: Baroque upper body tie with about 4ish ropes. \n  \n“The Archive” (Sunday\, November 8th: 3pm-5pm CET)\nIn everyday life it is almost never permitted to express emotions to the fullest. We usually store them in a box and put them in our personal archive to deal with them ‘later’\, knowing that this later will almost never come. A rope scene can facilitate a look into these personal archives\, and together with a trusted partner we can open a box or two. \nContent: Listening\, Pause\, Interpretation. With ropes. \n  \n“The Red Light District” (Sunday\, November 8th: 5.30pm-7.30pm CET)\nThe possibility of the erotic. In The City of Kinbaku\, sexwork is amongst the most respected fields. In this part we visit the red light district where we will explore some floor work that can easily (but not necessarily) be used for practices that transgress into the taboo of the sexual. A special focus on identifying\, understanding\, honouring\, and supporting different facets of vulnerability\, to protect psychological safety while exploring these topics. \nContent: Yukimura floor work exercises. \n  \n“The Amusement Park” (Sunday\, November 8th: 8-10pm CET)\nRope scenes are meant to move the hearts of those involved\, to express love and emotions through the medium of ropes. The last stop of our city trip\, the curiosity cabinet at the amusement park\, demonstrates that ropes can be silly\, laughing\, and awkward. Higher mathematics doesn’t seem to have anything in common with rope but a quick look offers a vast variety of tools helpful for rope bondage as it is basically nothing else than applied differential geometry. \nThis workshop is first and foremost for people who wonder\, who are curious and not only for those with a strong interest in mathematical\, physical and engineering contexts of Rope Bondage. Reflecting on these contexts can help in understanding the structure of certain patterns. It also can help to increase the ability to handle the rope on a body. \nContent  \n\nCurved and flat spaces.
