SUMMARY:Erato Bänana Master Class: Without Chest Harness
DESCRIPTION:In most Japanese-inspired styles\, chest harnesses – especially TKs – are a central element: practical\, aesthetic\, and an ideal way to connect with the person in ropes. \nWhen designing this workshop five years ago\, I asked myself: how can we tie the hands in a creative way while maintaining technical precision\, aesthetic consistency\, and a clear dialogue with the person in ropes? Since then\, I have taught this workshop many times\, and these bondages have evolved through practice\, repetition\, and transmission\, while new ties have gradually emerged. \nParticular emphasis will be placed on adapting these ties to different body types\, so that each person can find what works best for them. Depending on the ties explored\, participants’ level of experience\, and their preferences\, these bondages can be explored both in partial suspension and in full suspension. \nCat in Bänana’s ropes. DESCRIPTION:In Japanese\, “agura” refers to the cross-legged sitting position: on the floor\, legs crossed\, knees open\, and the feet tucked under the thighs. By extension\, we also use this term to name the shibari harness designed to tie someone in this posture. Especially interesting for its stability and versatility\, this harness distributes the weight of the lower body effectively and opens up a rich playground for exploring openness\, twisting\, arching\, and compression ! \nThe class will begin with a clear breakdown of how to build a structured agura with 3 to 4 ropes.We will then look at the different ways to attach suspension lines to it\, before offering a sequence of transitions and variations that encourage creativity and playful exploration around this iconic form.

This workshop will focus on how to incorporate these additional ropes across a variety of contexts. Whether used to support complex positions like gyaku ebi\, optimize vertical suspensions\, introduce constraint\, restrict breathing\, or achieve a particular aesthetic\, these ropes can serve diverse and powerful roles. \nWe’ll explore the foundational requirements of the TK in greater depth\, and how to effectively integrate the third and fourth ropes. You’ll be introduced to various construction techniques and learn how to creatively freestyle variations based on your own needs and preferences. \nA key component of this class will focus on upper body anatomy – particularly how the third and fourth ropes interact with different body shapes\, volumes\, and sensitivities. We’ll examine chest shape\, shoulder mobility\, and the distribution of tissue and muscle\, and how these factors influence rope placement. This understanding is essential for adapting your tying with precision and care – not just for safety\, but to achieve intentional and responsive effects. \nRather than applying a fixed pattern\, we will emphasize an approach based on observation\, responsiveness\, and adaptation to the individual in front of you. \nTo enrich the learning experience\, Bänana will be joined by several rope partners with diverse body types\, anatomical characteristics\, and rope needs. DESCRIPTION:This floor-based class will introduce playful bondage techniques\, all centered around a shared objective: deliciously exposing the person in ropes. The session will leave room for creativity\, allowing each pair to explore ways of exposing the other to provoke responses. (What feels exposing or intimidating to one person may not be so for another…) \nThe class offers tools and ideas to support each participant in discovering their own interpretation of what exposure in rope can evoke in both partners—whether that’s embarrassment\, vulnerability\, shame\, or shared intimacy. \nIt will also be a space to explore the power dynamics that emerge through this type of bondage\, as well as the reactions and emotions it can generate. \nFor a long time\, the most visible images of shibari were of individuals with a female gender expression (whose bodies conformed to hetero-patriarchal beauty standards)\, tied by individuals with a male gender expression. DESCRIPTION:A transition is the movement from one position to another. It can be done gradually or abruptly\, depending on the intention behind it and what we want to communicate to the person being tied. Transitions are often linked to dynamic tying styles but are less commonly associated with semenawa (torment rope). In semenawa\, the person tying creates both physical and psychological torment to push their partner out of their comfort zone. \nIn this online class\, we will explore a suspension sequence and learn how to tie and adjust it to match the energy and intention we want to express. We’ll also look at how transitions can be used as an effective tool for torment in a session (muahahaha). \nAdditionally\, we’ll discuss the concept of letting go for rope bottoms. What do we need to fully trust our rigger in moments of torment? How does their behavior influence our ability to surrender to our reactions and emotions? \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  May 1st\, 2005\, 7 pm- 9 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: intermediate to advanced suspension skills. Our intention here will be to push the concept of immobility in the ropes to its extreme as an experiment.\nWe’ll be building a partial suspension bondage where each added rope will have an impact on blocking the position and the body. Like a trap closing slowly around the bound person who in the end can only move their eyes ! After untying\, we’ll analyze all together the emotions that this kind of bondage will have created to the people tied up and to the riggers. \nPartner: Sixtine \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: People tying must know how to tie structured harness and tie uplines.
