SUMMARY:Addie & Barkas: Floor Work Series
DESCRIPTION:  \nFloor work in rope bondage has become somewhat synonymous with terms like connection\, communication\, and eroticism. While these are certainly valid and enjoyable pursuits\, they are not the only options\, and questioning their meaning and application offers new ways of interacting with floor work as a concept. \nIn this two-part workshop\, Barkas and Addie deconstruct common terms and techniques associated with tying on the ground. This deconstruction does not mean the demolition of certain approaches to floor work\, but rather an expansion and investigation of possibilities. Floor work does not\, for example\, require participants to sit on the floor\, nor does it require proximity. \n  \nPart I: September 11th\, 2021\, 7-10 pm CET (Berlin time) \nIn the first part\, we will introduce a few concepts as well as techniques and patterns useful for tying on the ground. The concept and implementation of spatial awareness will play a crucial role. \n  \nPart II: September 18th\, 2021 7-10 pm CET (Berlin time) \nPart two then expands on the concept of spatial awareness. With the help of some sequences\, we will explore timing\, subtlety\, balance\, and creativity. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  September 11th & 18th\, 2021\, 7pm-10pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single and double column ties\, experience with floor work helpful but not necessary. \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to tie along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 30 days \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. If that is still too much or they are out of stock\, feel free to send us a message via info@karada-house.de \nPhoto: The Silence

SUMMARY:Ranboo Style Part III: Floor & Air
DESCRIPTION:Ranboo\, literally translated means stormy\, overwhelming\, wild. \nAbout 10 years ago\, Barkas developed Ranboo as a way of rejecting a static and often seemingly boring practice of rope bondage. A wild dance while tying with each other is the result.\nRanboo is characterized by a large amplitude of variation of distance\, speed\, and intensity\, paired with an element of surprise. It is not a set of patterns or a “visual goal” but a way of interacting\nwith your partner(s) through rope\, a specific interview type\, if you want. \nIn this 3-parts workshop series\, Barkas and Addie will accompany the participants through the principles\, applications\, and variations of Ranboo\, while keeping a strong focus on safety. \nDisclaimer: The highly dynamic nature of ranboo comes with the potential of greater risk for injuries. We strongly recommend participants only watch and participate in part II & III if they watched part I and only practice exercises from the latter parts if they have proficiency in the basic techniques. \n  \nPart III Floor & Air (May 25th\, 2021\, 7-10 pm CET) \nRanboo on the floor is challenging due to various aspects. In this part\, we use these challenges to further familiarize participants with the concepts developed in the previous parts but on the floor. Some challenges of ranboo that appear on the floor are similar when we go into suspensions. Other challenges are added. We go through a suspension and see how ranboo affects the way we can tie in the air. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  May 25th\, 2021\, 7-10pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Active participants\, i.e. those who would like to tie along or try the exercises immediately\, should be able to tie a single/double column tie and have some knowledge about different frictions\, as well as suspension experiences for that corresponding part. None of that is a threshold for participation in general and participants of all levels are welcome.\nWe strongly recommend not to tie along when you are not proficient in the underlying rope techniques. \nWhat to Bring:  ropes (the techniques covered work well for natural fiber rope\, and synthetic will behave differently. This series is not suited to tying with synthetic rope)\, a partner\, suspension point if you want to tie along in Part III \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Tech Dump Part IV: Running Person
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe details and mechanics of technical suspension are Addie’s specialty and passion. Over the past 6 years\, she has amassed a wide\, varied repertoire of suspension experience\, with a heavy emphasis on tying different people with different preferences\, and adapting ties to people rather than the other way around. Pre-pandemic\, she taught TheSpace’s Techie Tuesdays\, a weekly series that focused on how and why ties work the way they do\, helping participants to build a working\, functional knowledge of tying for suspension. \nThis progressive series will be heavy on understanding rather than memorization\, on technical details (why something works in situation A but not B\, how it can be adapted for B) and on personalization. We will examine everything from hitches to hip rotations\, with the goal of achieving smooth rope and body handling\, predicting and preventing trouble spots\, and staying one step ahead of necessity. \nThe goal is not to arrive at a particular visual end result\, but to use all our skills and knowledge to create ties and situations that make the person in ropes happy\, however their ‘happy’ manifests. \n  \nTech Dump Part IV: Full Suspension – Running Person (April 24th\, 7-10pm CET) \nThe ‘Full Suspension’ Tech Dumps will each focus on a particular tie/pose/suspension\, with different options based on each participant’s level of experience. For those newer to suspension\, each can be performed as a partial or full static suspension\, coming back out of the suspension by reversing the steps taken to get there. For those with more experience\, there will be options for additions or transitions\, before coming out either by reversing steps or continuing through to a different end point. The focus here is on sustainability\, balance\, and adaptation to suit and support the person in rope. Each piece of the tie must be well placed so that no one point is taking an undue amount of strain\, and the person tying must choose when to start moving out of the tie such that the person in ropes is in long enough\, but not too long. This creates sustainable suspensions and lets the tied person trust the tie and focus on the experience. We will look at balance points\, planning ahead\, and gauging when to come out so as to maximize the effectiveness of the tie. We will also discuss work-arounds for more common body quirks\, and self-checks and body knowledge for the people being tied. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  April 24th\,  2021\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single column tie\, double column tie & it is highly recommended that participants take the TK-ish Tech Dump before the Suspension Tech Dump(s) to ensure that we are all working from the same starting point. \nThere is no previous suspension experience required to participate\, and each suspension will be shown with levels of difficulty to offer information\, challenge\, and accomplishment for participants with any level of previous experience. Throughout\, there will tips\, tricks\, and suggestions for those who are tied. There will also be time for tying practice\, and many (though not all) elements can be modified for those who like to self-tie. \nFor those tying: No previous suspension knowledge necessary\, especially for the early sessions. Those who are new to TK-ish structures are also welcome to participate\, but should take the TK session first\, and be willing to stick to the more basic versions/variations of ties. For the suspension classes\, a good goal for tying participants is to be able to tie a suspension-worthy upper body tie smoothly\, a non-collapsing single column tie on the first try\, and to open\, move\, and re-lock a suspension line without fumbling or cussing. \nFor those being tied: I recommend having some previous experience in rope so that those being tied have a frame of reference and can make more informed decisions. This does not have to include suspension experience. Likewise\, there are no pre-requisites for flexibility\, fitness\, lack of injuries\, etc; one of the goals of the series is to tie for the differences in how individuals work\, to use that individuality to best advantage. In Addie’s experience\, the pairs who have the most success in workshops are generally those who can laugh together and who approach challenges as a team. \nIf you have any questions about those guidelines\, please contact Addie (addietahl@gmail.com). \nWhat to Bring: ropes (the techniques covered work well for natural fiber rope\, and synthetic will behave differently. This series is not suited to tying with synthetic rope)\, a partner\, suspension point if you want to tie along \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days. \n  \nWhat else to know \nNo\, the picture does not show the running man pose. It’s still a cool picture\, though. \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Tech Dump Part II: Uplines\, Partial Suspensions
\n  \nTech Dump Part II: Uplines\, Partial Suspensions (April 10th\, 7-10pm CET) \nIn partial suspensions\, some part of the body is always touching the ground. This does not mean that the suspension is less strenuous or less risky\, though it does generally mean that the person in rope is close enough to the ground to be brought out relatively quickly. This session focuses on safety\, planning\, body mechanics\, and uplines. We will look at the pros and cons to different upline options\, speed/access/reliability\, and quick/smooth handling of both the rope and of the person in rope. We will examine balancing the body in the air vs the contact to the floor\, and signs that we have found the ‘right’ height. We also look at bringing people out of suspension smoothly and quickly\, communication and risk evaluation between tying partners\, and self-monitoring for those being tied. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  April 10th\,  2021\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single column tie\, double column tie & it is highly recommended that participants take the TK-ish Tech Dump before the Suspension Tech Dump(s) to ensure that we are all working from the same starting point. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Beyond the Interview III: Identity
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this workshop series by Barkas & Addie\, the participants are invited to come along on a journey of interpretations. In the Interview Series\, we established that tying can be seen as a language in a broader sense. This workshop demonstrates the limits of our language as well as its unexpected possibilities. Since the borders of our world are the borders of our language\, we try and reach exactly those borders and see that\, in both ropes and language\, poetry awaits. \nIn three workshops we do exactly that: write poems with\, and read them through\, ropes. \n  \nPart III Identity (March 23rd\, 7-10pm CET)\nTo see and to be seen require recognition – of faces we already know\, of words we have heard before\, of patterns we remember. Who are we while we tie\, and (how) are we supposed to ask\nthis of ourselves? Can we create ourselves more consciously while we tie? This last part doesn’t give answers but asks questions about what we can get out of a rope bondage scene. \n  \nA familiarity with the interview metaphor is not required but helps for a better understanding. You can get access to the recordings of the Interview Metaphor Series here. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  March 23rd\, 2021\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Curiosity! Double column tie. \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to work along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days \n  \nWhat else to know \nThis event is part of a series of 3 classes. SUMMARY:Bottoming\, Community Building
DESCRIPTION:  \nWhat makes a person in ropes proficient and successful? What about a community? How are these related? This class begins by offering concrete\, practical\, and realistic learning tools for those who like to be tied. It then extrapolates outwards to ask how we might use these tools to (re)structure the way we self-describe\, prioritize\, and interact as individuals and social groups in order to build positive and constructive communities\, on whatever scale. Starting from a point of focus on those who like spending time in rope\, this lecture/discussion invites participants\, whatever their experience level or relationship to rope\, to explore a series of suggestions designed to promote engagement in a collective that strives for healthy interactions\, positive growth\, and empowerment. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  February 13th\, 2021\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: None\, this is appropriate for people who tie\, are tied\, self-tie\, newbies\, and old hands. Although the contents are directed at a rope audience\, the concepts hold true in many dynamics and situation. \nWhat to Bring: – \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. SUMMARY:The Interview Metaphor III: Advanced Communication Techniques
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe pursuit of ‘connective’ or ‘communicative’ rope is central to the experiences many of us seek in rope bondage. Despite this\, connection and communication as concepts are slippery to define\, tricky to exemplify\, and often tautological in explanation. Connection is not created by a set of actions\, by a particular pose\, by close proximity or touch. It cannot be prescribed\, nor\ndoes it rely solely on instinct. Much like learning basic steps of dance before building to allow improvisation\, there are techniques that help us to notice cues\, interpret them more aptly\,\nrespond constructively\, and evaluate the impact of our actions. \nIn early 2016\, Barkas laid out the first version of the Interview Metaphor\, a structure which\, among other things\, allows those who tie to identify and handle the elements in a scene and\nthus understand why certain actions might be more effective than others. This Metaphor formed the basis of Barkas’ book\, Archeology of Personalities: A Linguistic Approach to Erotic Rope Bondage. \nSince then\, the Interview Metaphor has grown and gathered friends – the Archive\, Reciprocity\, the City\, to name a few. Each of these concepts gives a fresh view into how scenes work\, how\npeople interact\, how power structures evolve\, and what we make of/build with our efforts and intentions. \nThis workshop series approaches the Interview Metaphor and associated structures chronologically\, starting with the Interview and adding complexity and layers of understanding\nin the same order in which the concepts themselves were formalized and introduced\, making this is a historical exploration of the evolution of rope theory as well as a practical application of\nconcepts. Demonstrations and exercises allow participants to practice and absorb concepts. As with all of Barkas’ and Addie’s classes\, there is emphasis on the education and contribution of\nboth (all) parties in the scene. \nPart III: \nAdvanced communication techniques. This final part deals with the less obvious corners of nonverbal communication and we will be looking at the interview from the perspective of music\, architecture\, and poetry. \nPrerequisites: Part I&II recommended but not necessary. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  December 15th\, 2020\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to be able to tie solid single & double column ties \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to work along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days \n  \nWhat else to know \nThis event is part of a series of 3 classes. SUMMARY:The Interview Metaphor II: Grammar & Vocabulary
\nPart II: \nGrammar and vocabulary of the interview. In this part\, we will see how much we can borrow from the realm of verbal communication and how we can implement concepts such as interruption or punctuation in order to have more meaningful scenes. This is about different interview styles. \nPrerequisites: Part I recommended but not necessary. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  December 8th\, 2020\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to be able to tie solid single & double column ties \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to work along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days \n  \nWhat else to know \nThis event is part of a series of 3 classes. SUMMARY:Movement in the City of Kinbaku
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn Barkas’ approach to rope\, what one does with rope is not as important as knowing how or why one does it. In the end\, the aim is to move each other’s hearts. Thus\, it seems almost obvious to make movement a big part of a rope scene. In Barkas’ City of Kinbaku\, there are three modes of physical movement with the idea to move one’s partner emotionally. \nA poetic journey to and through Barkas’ metaphorical city of Kinbaku\, Barkas and Addie guide participants through some of the many meanings with which rope can be imbued. We discuss communication via ropes\, movement with ropes\, and space in the context of ropes. This journey includes very simple techniques and more elaborate ones alike. Participants will get a deep insight into the philosophy and technique of Barkas’s and Addie’s work. We encourage all levels to participate and not to be afraid of challenges. \nThis class is 120min long with time to practice the exercises and Q&A. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  November 8th: 8pm-10pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: A good understanding of single column ties\, experience with basic floor work\, the ability to tie an upper body harness. We encourage all levels to participate and not to be afraid of challenges. \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to tie along you need a minimum of 8 ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner\, a hard point \nSolo or Partnered:  both\, you need a partner to tie along but witnessing and observing will also teach you lots! \nClass recording: yes\, participants will not be recorded. The recordings will be available for 14 days after the class \n  \nWhat we will teach: \nThe three concepts of movement: Archimedes\, Peter Pan\, and Elephant. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Barkas & Addie: The City of Kinbaku Intensive
DESCRIPTION:A poetic journey to and through Barkas’ metaphorical city of Kinbaku. Barkas and Addie guide participants through some of the many meanings with which rope can be imbued. \nAll of the parts are 120min long with time to practice the exercises and Q&A. If you wish to purchase only a single class\, please click on the class headline: \n  \n“Arrival in Ropes” (Saturday\, November 7th: 3pm-5pm CET)\nA rope scene can be seen as a ‘totally other space’ with its own distinct set of rules\, morals\, languages. In this first part\, we welcome the participants in that space\, talk about a conceptual image that illustrates what we could do in a rope scene\, and provide possibilities for how to enter a rope scene. \nContents: Preparation\, Entrance\, and Greeting Shibari \n  \n“Movement in the City of Kinbaku” (Saturday\, November 7th: 5.30pm-7.30pm CET)\nIn Barkas’ approach to rope\, what one does with rope is not as important as knowing how or why one does it. In the end\, the aim is to move each other’s hearts. Thus\, it seems almost obvious to make movement a big part of a rope scene. In Barkas’ City of Kinbaku\, there are three modes of physical movement with the idea to move one’s partner emotionally. \nContents: Archimedes\, Peter Pan\, and Elephant. \n  \n“The Baroque District” (Saturday\, November 7th: 8-10pm CET)\nYukimura said “ropes are there to frame the beauty of the person in ropes.” In this part we will elaborate a frame of ropes that is rather baroque. A rope pattern that suits and accentuates every body type and presentation\, with emphasis on making the person in rope feel\, and therefore emanate\, beauty. \nContent: Baroque upper body tie with about 4ish ropes. \n  \n“The Archive” (Sunday\, November 8th: 3pm-5pm CET)\nIn everyday life it is almost never permitted to express emotions to the fullest. We usually store them in a box and put them in our personal archive to deal with them ‘later’\, knowing that this later will almost never come. A rope scene can facilitate a look into these personal archives\, and together with a trusted partner we can open a box or two. \nContent: Listening\, Pause\, Interpretation. With ropes. \n  \n“The Red Light District” (Sunday\, November 8th: 5.30pm-7.30pm CET)\nThe possibility of the erotic. In The City of Kinbaku\, sexwork is amongst the most respected fields. In this part we visit the red light district where we will explore some floor work that can easily (but not necessarily) be used for practices that transgress into the taboo of the sexual. A special focus on identifying\, understanding\, honouring\, and supporting different facets of vulnerability\, to protect psychological safety while exploring these topics. \nContent: Yukimura floor work exercises. \n  \n“The Amusement Park” (Sunday\, November 8th: 8-10pm CET)\nRope scenes are meant to move the hearts of those involved\, to express love and emotions through the medium of ropes. The last stop of our city trip\, the curiosity cabinet at the amusement park\, demonstrates that ropes can be silly\, laughing\, and awkward. An exploration of the importance of ‘having fun with’ without ‘making fun of’\, to allow free expression and release of emotions that are rarely taught but often sought. \nContent: A challenge\, a souvenir\, an exercise that does not leave a single eye dry. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  November 7th & 8th\, 2020\, 3pm-10pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: A good understanding of single column ties\, experience with basic floor work\, the ability to tie an upper body harness. We encourage all levels to participate and not to be afraid of challenges. \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to tie along you need a minimum of 8 ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner\, a hard point \nSolo or Partnered:  both (one ticket purchase is valid for one pair)\, you need a partner to tie along but witnessing and observing will also teach you lots! \nClass recording: yes\, participants will not be recorded. The recordings will be available for 14 days after the class \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Differential Geometry in Rope Bndage
DESCRIPTION:Rope Bondage is often seen only through one particular lens but what happens if we are looking for similarities in completely different fields? Higher mathematics doesn’t seem to have anything in common with rope but a quick look offers a vast variety of tools helpful for rope bondage as it is basically nothing else than applied differential geometry. \nThis workshop is first and foremost for people who wonder\, who are curious and not only for those with a strong interest in mathematical\, physical and engineering contexts of Rope Bondage. Reflecting on these contexts can help in understanding the structure of certain patterns. It also can help to increase the ability to handle the rope on a body. \nContent \n\nCurved and flat spaces. A very short introduction into differential geometry.\nAngles on curved spaces. Where to put the fingers when.\nKnots and topological equivalence. Different “hitches” and their use\nForces and their direction. Frictions and suspension lines.\n\nmodel/assistant: Addie \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: workshop / demonstration / discussion \nMinimum Knowledge Level: beginner \nWhat to Bring: pen and paper and a piece of rope (<6m) \nSolo or Partnered: both \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n  \nphoto credit: Shiobhan \nThe login details for this class will be sent to you via email shortly before the event.

SUMMARY:Intro to Self-Suspension
DESCRIPTION:Self suspension presents a different set of challenges and rewards than partner suspension. The ability to push\, play\, experiment\, and tailor is countered by different leverage\, drains on strength and stamina\, challenging rope handling techniques\, and a compromised ability to respond to the unexpected. This class starts with the basics of self suspension\, from line management to common ‘oops’ spots to practice exercises\, building up to a simple\, versatile\, highly adaptable self suspension sequence\, not based around a hip harness (though one can be added). \nThe workshop will cover safety considerations\, equipment\, and common trouble spots\, uplines\, locking techniques\, moving in the air\, emergency exits\, troubleshooting and tailoring. \nThis is a demo-style class\, with several simple exercises that can be tailored to the individual. The goal is to compare options\, and provide the tools for people to be able to find what works for them. \n  \nDetails: \nFormat: workshop & demonstration \nMinimum Knowledge Level: intermediate (you need have knowledge of suspension mechanics\, be able to tie a non-collapsing single column tie and a basic upline) \nWhat to Bring: If you wish to tie along\, you need ropes\, a hard point and safety shears/knife \nSolo or Partnered: both\, depending on whether you wish to tie along \nClass recording: yes \nThis class will be recorded (only the facilitator\, not the participants) and is available for ticket holders for 30 days after the event. \n  \nphoto credit: Barkas \nThe login details for this class will be sent to you via email shortly before the event.
