Looking towards both the literary critical and our experiences of the everyday\, we’ll weigh the problems and poetic affordances that ambiguity presents in a culture so deeply concerned about security and liability mitigation.

DESCRIPTION:For Addie and Barkas experimental kinbaku means exploring ways of tying with each other that don’t rely on cliches of tradition\, sexuality\, or psychology. \nIn this weekend intensive\, we will develop different approaches to Kinbaku by stepping into a dialogue with other forms of interpersonal interaction. We will implement contexts of intimacy\, communication\, power\, art\, movement\, and politics into our practice of tying and experiment with an arrangement of techniques that allows us to learn more and different things about each other. \nThis workshop is following an “all levels” approach\, which means that we encourage practitioners at any stage of their learning to participate. DESCRIPTION:Hishis are a diamond pattern that is not only one of the staples of Japanese-inspired rope bondage but also one of the most versatile patterns. Addie will take a long and nerdy look at several hishi-based harnesses\, including a hands-free option. \nThe series will include a full-body hishi harness\, a split line hishi harness\, and the infamous Nambu TK which is great for transitions and can be pulled from multiple points. \nThe details and mechanics of technical suspension are Addie’s specialty and passion. Over the past 6 years\, she has amassed a wide\, varied repertoire of suspension experience\, with a heavy emphasis on tying different people with different preferences and adapting ties to people rather than the other way around. For the suspension classes\, a good goal for tying participants is to be able to tie a suspension-worthy upper body tie smoothly\, a non-collapsing single-column tie on the first try\, and to open\, move\, and re-lock a suspension line without fumbling or cussing. \nFor those being tied: I recommend having some previous experience in rope so that those being tied have a frame of reference and can make more informed decisions. This does not have to include suspension experience. Likewise\, there are no pre-requisites for flexibility\, fitness\, lack of injuries\, etc; one of the goals of the series is to tie for the differences in how individuals work\, to use that individuality to the best advantage. DESCRIPTION:Rope Bondage exists in space and time. We need to necessarily tie somewhere but this somewhere is not obvious. DESCRIPTION:A robust\, resilient\, and versatile variation on a TK-type tie designed to load from front\, side\, or back\, and to sustain multiple transitions while keeping shape. This class will go into technical detail about building the structure including how to shift tensions away from some areas while applying the tie. We will also look at suspending and transitioning with it\, and tips and tricks for working with upper body ties in general. SUMMARY:Magic Tricks for Excellent Rope Handling
DESCRIPTION:This class takes a deep dive into the minute details of what makes good tension\, clean placement\, even lines\, and smooth\, effortless rope movement. \nThese absolutely fundamental (and universally applicable) micro-techniques are difficult to pin down but magic once implemented\, and make the difference between good rope and excellent tying. We will look at how to use hands more effectively\, going into details like which fingers hold tension when\, how to flip or angle rope to prevent twists\, which angles to follow when throwing rope to clear it\, how to multi-task so that one hand can accomplish two (or three) tasks simultaneously. \nWe will break down how the person tying can maneuver their hands and body to tie even cuffs (thigh\, ankle) that stay in place\, or how to tweak those cuffs better suit the needs of a tie. We will also look at techniques to prevent finger and hand injuries for those who tie. These techniques are useful to anyone who ties\, no matter their style\, and all skill levels will find these techniques useful and productive. \nBeginners are especially invited to attend as it is easier to build good habits from the beginning. DESCRIPTION:In this weekend workshop\, Barkas and Addie will be taking the participants on a journey that goes way beyond mere tying. In various sections\, we will be looking at the fine details of advanced rope techniques challenging ideas about tying and being tied as well as pushing participants beyond their usual skill set\, while encouraging new ways of thinking and using rope. \nThis workshop is directed at those who are already proficient in their tying and who are now looking at what to do with these skills and how to go beyond. It is also suitable for very skilled practitioners seeking to go into the advanced material of Addie & Barkas’ curriculum and way of approaching rope as a practice (which is not readily available to learn outside of private lessons at the moment). \nCome for the rope challenges and inspiration\, stay for the mind fuck. \nWant more info? DESCRIPTION:  \nRope can be so much fun. But if you do not take of yourself and your partner(s) things can turn to shit pretty quickly. Time to pause and get some good and deep information about how to take care of your body when engaging in shibari. Addie\, knowledgeable beyond belief (honestly\, it’s wild!)\, AND equipped with not only medical knowledge but also tons of personal experience in all roles (tying\, being tied\, self-tying) will guide you through this two-part series. \nShe will not only cover how to prevent (or nurse) physical injuries but also psychological injuries (which happen more often in rope than physical ones). Addie will also go into detail on how to stay safe(r)\, how to adapt to different needs and bodies and will round things up with a myriad of tips and tricks. \nThis is not a class. DESCRIPTION:  \nBarkas and Addie usually teach with the goal of separating the practice of rope from inherent expectations or assumptions of sexual contact. But that does not mean that they do not practice and enjoy sexual rope as well! \nThis 3-part-workshop-series will focus on rope techniques for sex and ideas on how to sexualize ropes.
