Pauline MassimoPauline Massimo is an interdisciplinary human originally from Brazil and based in Barcelona, which mostly focused in perform, teach, photograph and organise Shibari related events professionally, but with experience background in circus, yoga, dance, plastic and conceptual art, and more. They started into Shibari around mid-2012 and since then was a non-stop journey in self-discovery and learning process. They have been into a vast number of workshops and have equally experienced as a rope model, rigging and self-tying. Pauline is educated and interested in the broader range that Shibari can provide as a practice, like classic Japanese style as more contemporary mixed styles, they are mostly interested in the mental and physical challenge that this practicum can offer as much as the challenge of creating experiences that adapt for different tastes and capabilities.

    Inma Sáez

    Inma, from Spain, started her exploration with Shibari with Pauline and from that in the past two years has been taking her own steps, as well a developing their partnership in many aspects. She is also a Butoh practitioner and has a background on contemporary dance, theatre and more.

Event Details

This completely improvised performance will be a fusion of Shibari and Butoh, accompanied by an informal discussion and Q & A to close.

Pauline holds an extensive body of knowledge and a myriad of performance disciplines including contemporary dance, shibari and improvisation. Within this creative improv. collaboration Pauline will be the protagonist using rope as their tool. Inma holds precious embodied knowledge from the spheres of theatre, contemporary dance, Butoh and shibari. Inma will assume the role of Butoka – antagonist, offering a varied palate of states and expressions reflective of the duality of opposing roles (or are they?), showing the nuances of this performative power exchange.

Pauline Massimo & Inma Sáez will take a short break and then return to offer space for feedback, questions and discussion with participants.
