SUMMARY:Archetypes of Shibari
DESCRIPTION:In this weekend workshop\, we will be exploring the ‘classic’ shapes of Shibari\, which will be referred to as ‘archetypes’. \nEven though Shibari is still early in its development\, there are already clear repeated patterns in its short history. These shapes have become synonymous with practicing Shibari\, particularly with a Japanese influence rather than drawing from Western bondage. Shapes such as Kata-Ashi Zuri (one leg suspension)\, Gyaku-Ebi Zuri (reverse shrimp suspension)\, and Gote Shibari (hands tied behind the back) are often practiced\, however rather than teaching with an ideal form\, in these workshops\, we will be eliminating the poses to their most essential intentions and expressions. The classes will each be demonstrated on different bodies and with different styles so that students are encouraged to practice a variation that most suit them. \nWhat is an Archetype? \nAn archetype can be any of the following:\na statement\, pattern of behavior\, prototype\, or main model that other objects copy\, emulate\, or “merge” into. You could also consider this a “standard example”\nthe Platonic concept of pure form is believed to embody the fundamental characteristics of a thing.\na collectively-inherited unconscious idea\, a pattern of thought\, image\, etc.\, that is universally present\, in individual psyches\, as in Jungian psychology\na constantly-recurring symbol or motif in literature\, painting\, or mythology. This definition refers to the recurrence of characters or ideas sharing similar traits throughout various\, seemingly unrelated cases in classic storytelling and the media. This usage of the term draws from both comparative anthropology and Jungian archetypal theory. \nBy looking at shapes as Archetypes\, rather than as an ideal form\, only then can we understand what is necessary to maintain or what modifications are needed to adjust to the individual experience. We will be exploring how to modify and choose variations depending on skill level\, risk assessment\, body differences\, and also on what kind of mood or sensation you want to focus on. Each Archetype will also include options with and without suspension. \nEach class will involve a detailed discussion about each Archetype’s aesthetics\, and physical and psychological effects as well as how to play with them for different purposes such as versatility for transitions\, Semenawa\, or more comfortable suspension. The workshop will also leave a large portion of space for discussion and labbing so that students have time to develop their own modifications. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 20 & 21\, 2024\, 11 am – 6 pm \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Familiar with tying harnesses for suspension and suspension line lock-offs. Recommended to attend with a partner that you have experience tying with. \nWhat to Bring: ropes\, safety eqiupment \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered. \nTicket: Price is per pair \n  \nWhat we teach/offer: \nDay 1: Gote and Kata Ashi\nWe will begin by looking in detail at different Gote variations including\, arms free\, stemless\, or stem Gotes. Then we will look at the single-leg tie (Kata Ashi) with options to tie on the floor\, standing\, or in suspension. \nDay 2: Gyaku Ebi and Mermaid (Torsion)\nWe will study different ways to tie the Gyaku Ebi (hogtie)\, on the ground\, from standing and suspended from the ground. After this\, we will look into how to create a twist in the body with the Mermaid position. \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. The garden is only partially accessible at the moment. During the workshop\, we will sit on the floor. Sitting in a chair can also be provided. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nAccommodation: \nFor people coming to this workshop from out of Berlin\, we can offer you accommodation in our space (mattress\, bed linens\, cushions\, bathroom\, shower\, and kitchen) in the common area. If you are interested\, please message us at info@karada-house.de \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nFriends describes people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity\, needs\, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community. \nWhen you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume\, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all pro-actively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.

The power of the facilitator is over the space and safety\, not over the knowledge shared. \n  \nAre you a newbie? \nWelcome to the hangout! You can attend at any time of your rope journey. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn! To get started with your rope skills\, take a look at our workshop schedule.\nWe recommend that you arrive at the beginning of the night. We have an introduction circle and go through the code of conduct and other important information. You will also see who else is there. If you can’t make it to the starting circle\, please contact us in advance.\nYou can always attend Rope Hangout alone and find new friends when you get there. SUMMARY:Playfight & Rough Body Play Lab
DESCRIPTION:Use your body in a vastly different way. Restricted\, restrained\, maybe even tamed – our bodies are subdued to very strict rules and movements in our daily lives. Time to get primal and rough. Rough body play allows for more fighting\, emotions\, and a deeper exploration of power dynamics than play fights. \nOnce a month we open Karada House for 2 hours of randori (free fights) time to try your new skills and have fun. Our amazing instructor Montse will guide through \n• warm-up exercises \n• consent & safety \n• dos & don’ts \nAfter that – fight! \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every third Tuesday of the month\, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to know your body\, its boundaries\, and needs in terms of health and safety \nWhat to Bring: comfortable\, sport clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined.

SUMMARY:Navigating Apologies
DESCRIPTION:Apologizing is something that all of us are very familiar with\, whether we like it or not. It is an essential part of how we sustain relationships and practice consensual and meaningful connections. \nIt plays a role in every relationship\, but especially in polyamorous and open relationships. Many of us need to unlearn hetero- and mono-normative norms and in this process of unlearning\, we come across lots of obstacles and trials and errors. Apologizing becomes a central figure in practicing sustainable relationships. \nYaniv would like to invite the participants for a little deep dive into what it means to apologize in an accountable and responsible way. We will talk about the elements of a good apology\, define each participant’s responsibility and role in that process\, and differentiate between accepting\, forgiving\, and moving forward. \n  \nThis event is part of the “Love is Polytical” 2024 Conference for Ethical & Intersectional Polyamory/Non-Monogamy and can be purchased as a solo event or part of our day or full conference tickets.  \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 14\, 2024\, 1.15 pm-3.15 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: discussion/workshop/lecture (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum knowledge level: – \nWhat to bring: – \nClass recording: yes\, the recording will be available for 30 days to the conference participants. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop and discussion are held in spoken English with automated captions in English which are provided by Zoom. SUMMARY:The Interview Metaphor Series
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe pursuit of ‘connective’ or ‘communicative’ rope is central to the experiences many of us seek in rope bondage. Despite this\, connection and communication as concepts are slippery to define\, tricky to exemplify\, and often tautological in explanation. Connection is not created by a set of actions\, by a particular pose\, by close proximity\, or by touch. It cannot be prescribed\, nor does it rely solely on instinct. Much like learning basic steps of dance before building to allow improvisation\, some techniques help us to notice cues\, interpret them more aptly\, respond constructively\, and evaluate the impact of our actions. \nIn early 2016\, Barkas laid out the first version of the Interview Metaphor\, a structure that allows those who tie to identify and handle the elements in a scene and thus understand why specific actions might be more effective than others. This Metaphor formed the basis of Barkas’ book\, Archeology of Personalities: A Linguistic Approach to Erotic Rope Bondage. \nThis workshop series approaches the Interview Metaphor and associated structures chronologically\, starting with the Interview and adding complexity and layers of understanding in the same order in which the concepts themselves were formalized and introduced\, making this a historical exploration of the evolution of rope theory as well as a practical application of concepts. Demonstrations and exercises allow participants to practice and absorb concepts. As with all of Barkas’ and Addie’s classes\, there is an emphasis on the education and contribution of\nboth (all) parties in the scene. \n  \nPart I:\nPower and communication. We will discuss with the help of simple exercises how the terms power and communication can be understood in the context of rope bondage. It marks the emergence of the interview metaphor. \nPart II: \nGrammar and vocabulary of the interview. In this part\, we will see how much we can borrow from the realm of verbal communication and how we can implement concepts such as interruption or punctuation in order to have more meaningful scenes. This is about different interview styles. \nPart III: \nAdvanced communication techniques. This final part deals with the less obvious corners of nonverbal communication and we will be looking at the interview from the perspective of music\, architecture\, and poetry. \n  \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 10th 17th & 24th\, 2024\, 7pm-10pm CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single column tie and basic knowledge of some upper body tie \nWhat to Bring:  if you want to tie along you need ropes\, safety gear\, space\, a partner \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class and will remain available for 14 days after the end of the entire series. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop and discussion are held in spoken English with automated captions in English which are provided by Zoom. Communication within the class can be had via chat but also people can come on mic and speak. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance\, i.e. someone reading out the chat\, etc\, please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, queer\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, agender. \nFriends describes people of any and all kinds of gender and sexual identities who are aware and respectful of the necessity\, needs\, and boundaries of a queer safe(r) space and its marginalized community. \nWhen you consider yourself a friend you show acknowledgement to and are respectful of everyone’s self-expression and do not assume\, presume or project non-consensual ideas onto others.
