SUMMARY:Open Rope Training for Beginners: Moving with each other
DESCRIPTION:This bi-weekly open training is designed for anyone who would like to learn about Japanese-inspired rope bondage/shibari/kinbaku whether you see yourself in the role of the person tying or being tied. \nOur open rope training for beginners is a continuous offer for anyone looking for a regular practice space to advance their skills. Each time we will offer a teaching on one particular topic. Depending on your skill level and how quickly you can pick up on things\, you can then either use the remaining open-space time to practice this one new skill in your own time or you can up the ante with the help of your teacher. You can also choose to train your own skills on another topic if you like and have a teacher give you feedback and help you improve. \n  \nTopic of the week: Moving with each other on the floor \nDifferent ways of moving create very different rope sessions\, and everyone playing has agency on how they move their own body. This open training explores how to be more creative with movement and how the person getting tied can completely change the course of the session.  \nTeacher of the week: Caritia \n“Caritia’s style is an eclectic one\, blended as it is from 20+ years in kink and learning to tie (and getting tied) from a diverse range of Japanese and Northern European instructors. Twelve years on this path\, which has ebbed and flowed\, ‘I’m forever a curious student’. Focused on accessibility\, from pedagogy to diverse movement (stillness)\, specializing in the body\, floorwork\, partial suspensions\, and adaptive ties\, Caritia infuses (her) teachings with laughter as a key element of play.\nCaritia identifies as queer\, gender non-conforming\, black and the trickster vibes. Pronouns ‘Nah’” \n  \nYou can come alone or with a partner. You can tie yourself or your partner. Alternatively\, you can partner up with another participant. \nYou can but do not need to bring any ropes as we will provide workshop ropes for you. \nYou can also spontaneously come by on the day and purchase a ticket online right up to the beginning of the class if there is space left. \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Once the class has started we do not allow entry. You cannot transfer your ticket to another week. If you are not sure you can come\, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it. \nIf you know you will come to the open training more than just once\, please ask for our discount card! SUMMARY:Open Rope Training (Intermediate): Exploring Shame
DESCRIPTION:This bi-weekly intermediate open rope training is directed at building on what has been taught in the Beginner Open Rope Training. \nPlease note that the classes will be taught in different styles from this level onwards.  \nWe start the class intuitively by following individual impulses with rope. After that\, the main part of the evening we focus on the systematic management of rope\, body handling\, and safety principles: knots\, wrapping\, and aesthetic frictions. The material contains a wide range of harnesses for floor work and simple semi-suspension. It is strongly inspired by the shibari works of Japanese artists Dasniya learned from over the last fifteen years. There is time to switch roles to better understand restriction from both the perspectives of the person tying and the person getting tied so you can experience anything from sexy phantasies and meditative ties. \n  \nTopic of Exploration: SHAME \nTeacher: Dasniya Sommer \nStyle: Dasniya’s basic rope style orientates strongly towards Japanese Kinbaku artists: Akira Naka and Kasumi Horai– whom she attended workshops with in Europe and Japan. Other inspirations are found in the work of Norio Sugiura\, and the legacy of Nureki Chimuo\, who can be considered the protagonists of this ‘school/their era’. The tying system is often considered to be an advanced technique. But with regular practice\, attention to detail\, and to safety an adapted version for European bodies and perspectives can be taught from scratch. It combines a mix of basic shapes\, improvising principles and it trains a sensitive intuition for consequent restriction. \nDasniya’s personal tying is also informed by her longtime dance training and Buddhist background. Rigging from the perspective of the moving body\, and mindful listening to impulses and resonance often create a meditative vibe to get high on ropes. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month\, 7 pm-9 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: single-/double column tie\, basic frictions\, you need to be able to tie a box tie /TK\, simple up-lines \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible\, a set of 8 of your own ropes\, safety equipment \nSolo or Partnered:  preferably partnered but you can also partner up in the class with other solo people or tie yourself (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros per person \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. SUMMARY:Archetypes of Shibari
DESCRIPTION:In this weekend workshop\, we will be exploring the ‘classic’ shapes of Shibari\, which will be referred to as ‘archetypes’. \nEven though Shibari is still early in its development\, there are already clear repeated patterns in its short history. These shapes have become synonymous with practicing Shibari\, particularly with a Japanese influence rather than drawing from Western bondage. Shapes such as Kata-Ashi Zuri (one leg suspension)\, Gyaku-Ebi Zuri (reverse shrimp suspension)\, and Gote Shibari (hands tied behind the back) are often practiced\, however rather than teaching with an ideal form\, in these workshops\, we will be eliminating the poses to their most essential intentions and expressions. The classes will each be demonstrated on different bodies and with different styles so that students are encouraged to practice a variation that most suit them. \nWhat is an Archetype? \nAn archetype can be any of the following:\na statement\, pattern of behavior\, prototype\, or main model that other objects copy\, emulate\, or “merge” into. You could also consider this a “standard example”\nthe Platonic concept of pure form is believed to embody the fundamental characteristics of a thing.\na collectively-inherited unconscious idea\, a pattern of thought\, image\, etc.\, that is universally present\, in individual psyches\, as in Jungian psychology\na constantly-recurring symbol or motif in literature\, painting\, or mythology. This definition refers to the recurrence of characters or ideas sharing similar traits throughout various\, seemingly unrelated cases in classic storytelling and the media. This usage of the term draws from both comparative anthropology and Jungian archetypal theory. \nBy looking at shapes as Archetypes\, rather than as an ideal form\, only then can we understand what is necessary to maintain or what modifications are needed to adjust to the individual experience. We will be exploring how to modify and choose variations depending on skill level\, risk assessment\, body differences\, and also on what kind of mood or sensation you want to focus on. Each Archetype will also include options with and without suspension. \nEach class will involve a detailed discussion about each Archetype’s aesthetics\, and physical and psychological effects as well as how to play with them for different purposes such as versatility for transitions\, Semenawa\, or more comfortable suspension. The workshop will also leave a large portion of space for discussion and labbing so that students have time to develop their own modifications. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 20 & 21\, 2024\, 11 am – 6 pm \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Familiar with tying harnesses for suspension and suspension line lock-offs. Recommended to attend with a partner that you have experience tying with. \nWhat to Bring: ropes\, safety eqiupment \nSolo or Partnered:  partnered. \nTicket: Price is per pair \n  \nWhat we teach/offer: \nDay 1: Gote and Kata Ashi\nWe will begin by looking in detail at different Gote variations including\, arms free\, stemless\, or stem Gotes. Then we will look at the single-leg tie (Kata Ashi) with options to tie on the floor\, standing\, or in suspension. \nDay 2: Gyaku Ebi and Mermaid (Torsion)\nWe will study different ways to tie the Gyaku Ebi (hogtie)\, on the ground\, from standing and suspended from the ground. After this\, we will look into how to create a twist in the body with the Mermaid position. \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. Our amazing instructor Montse will guide through \n• warm-up exercises \n• consent & safety \n• dos & don’ts \nAfter that – fight! \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every third Tuesday of the month\, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to know your body\, its boundaries\, and needs in terms of health and safety \nWhat to Bring: comfortable\, sport clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined.
