SUMMARY:Fundamentals 2: Choreography and Notation
DESCRIPTION:  \nFundamentals is a series within the Queerope Berlin 2024 conference that goes back to the basics and way beyond. Andrea Rimon will re-define what the fundamentals of rope are and offer classes suited for beginners as well as anyone who wants to go back to a beginner mindset and/or approach the beginnings again in a completely new way. \nWhat does it mean to think of tying fundamentals outside of just learning frictions\, patterns\, and general BDSM social mores? This class series will be an exploration of what it means to build a queer trying practice that takes less for granted. Drawing on techniques taken from physical theater\, dance\, contact improvisation\, and other movement arts\, we will think deeply about what it means to think of tying not just as a sexual practice\, but as a form of collectively devised experience with ties to art\, politics\, and the rest of life. \nIn this class\, we’ll work through choreographing a scene around a single relatively simple pattern: aisatsu shibari\, or the “greeting tie.” After breaking down the affordances of the pattern (forces\, body mechanics\, our own associations)\, pairs or small groups will create and notate short scenes with it. We’ll discuss the value and method of diagramming ties and the value of being able to create repeatable\, iterable choreography\, even for those who have a practice that does not involve tying for performance and where most scenes are improvised. \nPartner: Layal \n  \nFormat: workshop\, discussion \nMinimum knowledge level: – \nparticipants: 8 \nWhat to bring: ropes\, pen and paper \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: classes will have a significant portion of discussion\, so we are switching from being on the floor to occasionally standing\, this class will focus on a standing pattern that involves the arms and being taken off balance.

SUMMARY:Wild Card: Holding space to hold people (Louise)
DESCRIPTION:  \nWild Cards are open slots that can be filled by participants and facilitators of Queerope alike.  \n  \nHow do you hold space for rope? Whether it’s smaller more private events\, or larger classes or jams\, let’s hold space to discuss the modalities of facilitating for rope. \nThe format of this Wild Card is a collaborative chat between the participants. \nAll perspectives and experiences in holding space are welcome (I don’t actually have any!) so we can find together what makes the spaces and events we actually want to attend; and maybe figure out how to become the facilitators we want to see in the world. \n  \nFormat: discussion \nMinimum knowledge level: – \nparticipants: as many as fit \nWhat to bring: opinions! \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: we will be sitting on the floor but adjustments can be made \n

SUMMARY:Shapemaking in Partials
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this class we will explore making shapes in partial suspension using a less harness focused approach. Instead playing with the contrast of flow & body manipulation through compression & expansion\, level changes\, & piece by piece taking away all movement. \nPartner: CuteButDeadly \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: Must have previous suspension experience\, & good upline management skills with upper & lower lockoffs. A desire to start breaking your own patterns and finding new pathways. Will be using your choice of upper body harness\, combined with single colums\, hojo-cuffs\, x-frictions etc. We will not be teaching harness\, this is a choose your own adventure class. \nMaximum amount of participants: 10 pairs \nWhat to bring: 10-15 ropes\, safety equipment\, we will be working on rings \nConstellations: partnered \nAccessibility: Participants will be working on the floor\, so participants should be comfortable doing this.

SUMMARY:Floor Torments
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis ground-based class will feature constricting bondage\, all of which has in common the progressive search for difficulty for the person being tied.\nIt will leave room for creativity\, so that each pair can find its own interpretation of what torment in ropes can be.\nThis class will also be an opportunity to discuss the subject of letting go for people who are tied up. How does our rigger’s behavior contribute to our ability to surrender to our reactions and emotions? \nPartner: Sixtine \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: As a minimum\, peopel tying must master a single column tie\, double column tie\, counter tension and X-friction. The person being tied must have had some previous experience with ropes. \nMaximum amount of participants: 12 pairs \nWhat to bring: 6-8 ropes\, safety equipment \nConstellations: pairs \nAccessibility: This class is not suited for people (both rigger and model) who cannot sit for an extended period. \nModel in the photo: Mae Boy

SUMMARY:Being a body in rope
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Ceci in exploring different ways of bottoming for floor work and suspensions. This workshop is all about researching what we can do with our bodies when we are in rope\, and how that affects sensations and feelings. There’s a special emphasis on fat bottoming and gender euphoria. \nPartner Rigger: probably René de Sans \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: You need to be able to take care of your bodily and emotional safety in rope. You are able to communicate while tied. Your rigger needs to know how to suspend you. If suspension isn’t accessible for you\, you can join for the floorwork parts. \nMaximum amount of participants: as many as fit the space \nWhat to bring: A rigger who has enough ropes to suspend you. \nConstellations: partnered \nAccessibility: –

We’ll talk about Andrea’s approach to the necessary and contradictory processes of movement patterning and deconstruction and how we can build towards a style that reflects our interests and politics in its very fundamentals. We’ll dive into deloading and deroling techniques from intimacy coordination and choreography to think through what it means to aim for sustainable tying practice that has room to deal with fraught topics and unexpected responses. \nPartner: Layal \nFormat: workshop\, discussion \nMinimum knowledge level: – \nparticipants: 8 \nWhat to bring: ropes\, pen and paper \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: classes will have a significant portion of discussion\, so we are switching from being on the floor to occasionally standing \n

After our first in-person edition last year\, we listened to your feedback\, improved the concept\, and reduced the number of participants to provide an even better learning environment. \nHere is the programme. \n  \nline-up: \n– Andrea Rimon (USA) \n– Barkas & Emmy (Canada) \n– Ceci Ferox (Finland/Germany) \n– Bänana & Sixtine (France) \n– KissmedeadlyDoll & CuteButDeadly (USA) \n– Sophia Rose (UK) \n– René de Sans (Germany) \n– Yada Kinbaku (Thailand) \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  September 11-15\, 2024\, all-day \nFormat: Conference \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: people tying must have at least a solid basic knowledge (single-column tie\, double-column tie\, tension\, frictions\, basic knots\, safety and anatomy) \nWhat to Bring:  yourself\, items you need for your pleasure and convenience\, ropes and safety equipment \nSolo or Partnered:  all constellations welcome\, come alone\, bring partner(s)\, best friends\, groups…\n \nPrice: 300 Euros per person for the entire fest (excludes food/accommodation). \nWe can accommodate paying in installments but the full price must be paid before the event begins. We will provide these tests for you and have a dedicated area to do them in. \nThe indoor areas will be constantly aired and HEPA-14 filters will be running the entire time. We also have outdoor areas. \nWe will provide hand and surface disinfectant\, please make ample use of it. \nIf you are sick or feel like you start to get ill\, please do not come to the conference. \nAccessibility \nThe space is on the ground floor in the backyard of another building. It has three steps to enter the building. There is also a ramp available. The door frames have been widened to all for access with wheelchairs. The space has no high thresholds. There is an accessible bathroom and shower available. \nMany of the workshops will be on the floor on yoga mats but we also provide chairs and sofas for more comfortable seating. The chairs are sturdy and have no limiting armrests so they can be useful and comfortable for any body size. \nWe will provide one or more spaces to retreat to in case the conference becomes too overwhelming. A weighted blanket and noise-canceling headphones will be provided. The garden area will also be accessible at least in part (we are still building so this is not 100% clear yet). \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, queer\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, and agender. \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined. \n  \nWhat else to know \nBefore purchasing a solidarity ticket\, please check here if you are eligible for one.

SUMMARY:Open Rope Training for Beginners: Moving (with each other) on the Floor
DESCRIPTION:This bi-weekly open training is designed for anyone who would like to learn about Japanese-inspired rope bondage/shibari/kinbaku whether you see yourself in the role of the person tying or being tied. \nOur open rope training for beginners is a continuous offer for anyone looking for a regular practice space to advance their skills. Each time we will offer a teaching on one particular topic. Depending on your skill level and how quickly you can pick up on things\, you can then either use the remaining open-space time to practice this one new skill in your own time or you can up the ante with the help of your teacher. You can also choose to train your own skills on another topic if you like and have a teacher give you feedback and help you improve. \n  \nTopic of the week: Moving (with each other) on the Floor \nDifferent ways of moving create very different rope sessions\, and everyone playing has agency on how they move their own body. This open training explores how to be more creative with movement and how the person getting tied can completely change the course of the session. \nTeacher of the week: René de Sans \n  \nYou can come alone or with a partner. You can tie yourself or your partner. Alternatively\, you can partner up with another participant. \nYou can but do not need to bring any ropes as we will provide workshop ropes for you. \nYou can also spontaneously come by on the day and purchase a ticket online right up to the beginning of the class if there is space left. \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Once the class has started we do not allow entry. You cannot transfer your ticket to another week. If you are not sure you can come\, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it. \nIf you know you will come to the open training more than just once\, please ask for our discount card! (For every 5 classes\, the 6th class is on us!) \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every other Wednesday\, 7 pm-9 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you have knowledge on the topics of rope safety\, consent\, and boundaries\, you have been to our “Rope for Absolute Beginners” class at  or have solid knowledge of single & double-column ties\, wrapping\, tension & counter tension \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible\, 1-3 of your own ropes (we can also provide ropes for you) \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nWhat happens next? \nThe Open Rope Training for Beginners is an ongoing course designed to run approx. 8 months with constantly new topics. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are.
