SUMMARY:Open Hearts\, Open Minds: Exploring "Alternative" Relationship Structures
DESCRIPTION:Modern romance dictates that a single individual should fulfill all of our needs – from sharing joys and fears\, co-parenting and financial commitments\, to sexual happiness\, identity confirmation\, and spiritual fulfillment. Is this fair? \nWe will look into what relationships give us\, then explore a wide variety of relationship structures that are being employed to have people fill all of their needs. Monogamy and serial monogamy are valid options\, but what about polyamory\, swinging\, pre-arranged trysts\, friends with benefits\, or choosing to be our own life partner? \nWhat We Will Do\nHow do we communicate in our relationships to make whatever structure we choose actually work\, and we’ll look into issues like jealousy vs. envy\, new relationship energy\, and making each of our friends and partners feel like the unique person they are in our lives. \n

SUMMARY:Gentle Landings: Rope When Energy Runs Low
DESCRIPTION:The last day of an event is exhausting. Your body is tired\, your energy is depleted\, but you still want rope. This class is specifically designed for those moments when you want connection and sensation without the physical demands of dynamic rope or suspension. We’ll explore mindful\, low-energy approaches to rope including: creating meaningful floor-based scenes that prioritise stillness over movement\, using minimal rope for maximum impact\, low partial suspensions that require less rigger energy and provide supported rest for bottoms\, techniques for finding intensity through presence rather than complexity. \n\nThis isn’t about pushing through exhaustion – it’s about honouring your body’s limits whilst still experiencing the joy of rope. You’ll learn to create rich\, connected experiences that work with depletion rather than against it\, perfect for the end of rope-intensive weekends or managing chronic fatigue in regular practice. Expect gentle pacing\, plenty of rest breaks\, and techniques you can take home for whenever your energy is slim but your desire for rope remains strong.

SUMMARY:Hashira Shibari
DESCRIPTION:Hashira is a vertical wooden post\, traditionally found in Japanese architecture. Hashira Shibari (柱縛り) refers to tying to/on/with the hashira. It is commonly associated with suspension\, tight binding\, inescapable restriction or objectification. In this class\, we will take a broader approach\, exploring how we can use simple techniques to play. \nNote: As per request this session is recorded but the link will only be given to participants who participated in the live class. We are therefore labeling this session as generally “without recording”. \nphoto: Touchwood\nmodel: nawaduck

SUMMARY:Nawa Sabaki (Rope Handling)
DESCRIPTION:Most students begin their shibari learning with foundational techniques such as single & double column tie\, frictions\, knots\, and basic forms. In this class\, \nNaoko will share how she started learning – her first lessons were about nawa sabaki (rope handling) and how to use rope to communicate. Rather than focusing on techniques\, this class will explore the sensibility of tying. The session will be a mix of demonstration and hands-on practice (time permitting). \nTopics include: \n* Different uses of nawajiri (rope ends) — exploring “give and take\,” seduction\, seme and others.\n* Expanding the use of shiten no nawa (anchor ropes) — how positions and angles change the communication.\n* Deep dive into tension — understanding it not as absolute measure of tightness\, but as a variable in relation to the model’s reaction and the moment.\n* Appreciating the dominant role of rope handling and the relatively minor role of frictions and knots. \nNote: As per request this session is recorded but the link will only be given to participants who participated in the live class. We are therefore labeling this session as generally “without recording”.

SUMMARY:Shibari Through the Male Gays
DESCRIPTION:This lecture examines the prevalent rope aesthetics of the internet and asks what happens when we look at them through the lens of gay erotic imagination. It centers on the themes of stoicism and struggle that shape homoerotic art\, from the disciplined fantasies of Tom of Finland\, to the tortured ecstasy of Saint Sebastian\, to the raw intimacy of the locker room\, and even the bound beast final boss of a video game. Using the perspective of gay leathermen as a point of reference\, the class highlights aesthetic gaps that can inform and enrich everyone’s practice\, regardless of gender or orientation\, and expand the visual spectrum of what we present online. Participants are invited to explore how desire\, power\, and beauty take shape across different cultures of kink. The goal is not to critique but to expand\, applying the depth of shibari lineage technique to new emotional registers and creating work that feels more personal and alive.

SUMMARY:Escapism
DESCRIPTION:Who’s been there? You spend twenty minutes tying the cleanest\, prettiest gote of your life… and the person in ropes looks at you\, shrugs\, and casually wiggles themselves out like it was never that serious. Humbling. Kind of funny. And devinately annoying. \nThis workshop leans directly into that irony: shibari is often not inherently inescapable. So what happens when we stop pretending it does? Escapism is a lab-based\, curious\, slightly mean-spirited exploration of tying specifically for the purpose of not being able to get out. Not decorative rope. Not “it’ll probably hold.” Rope designed to trap\, frustrate\, and quietly ruin someone’s confidence in their escape talent. \nWe’ll fuck around with: \n\nMinimal rope vs. obscene amounts of rope\nSimple ideas pushed way too far\nPredicaments that look stupid until you’re inside them\nMean little concepts that rely more on physics\, leverage\, and bad choices than pretty patterns\nWhat if the smartest escape route becomes the worst option?\nWhat if struggling actively makes things harder?\nWhat if the tie isn’t complex at all — just deeply unfair?\n\nExpect experiments. Some will work. Some will fail hilariously.

SUMMARY:Rope Bodies: A Conversation on Disability\, Chronic Illness\, and Kink
DESCRIPTION:This structured conversation explores the intersections of disability\, chronic illness\, and rope practice. Led by Mouse\, a rope educator living with fibromyalgia\, this discussion creates space for honest dialogue about adapting rope practice to fluctuating abilities\, communicating needs with partners\, and challenging the ableist assumptions embedded in rope culture. \nWe’ll explore topics including: managing energy levels and pacing in rope scenes\, navigating “good days” and “bad days” with partners\, disclosing (or not disclosing) disability in rope spaces\, adapting techniques for pain management\, building sustainable rope practices\, and finding community as a disabled rope practitioner. \nThis is a space for sharing experiences\, asking difficult questions\, and building collective knowledge about making rope truly accessible. Whether you’re disabled/chronically ill yourself\, partner with someone who is\, or simply want to be a better ally in rope spaces\, this conversation will provide insight\, validation\, and practical strategies for creating more inclusive rope communities

SUMMARY:Agura & Transitions
DESCRIPTION:In Japanese\, “agura” refers to the cross-legged sitting position: on the floor\, legs crossed\, knees open\, and the feet tucked under the thighs. By extension\, we also use this term to name the shibari harness designed to tie someone in this posture. Especially interesting for its stability and versatility\, this harness distributes the weight of the lower body effectively and opens up a rich playground for exploring openness\, twisting\, arching\, and compression ! \nThe class will begin with a clear breakdown of how to build a structured agura with 3 to 4 ropes. We will then look at the different ways to attach suspension lines to it\, before offering a sequence of transitions and variations that encourage creativity and playful exploration around this iconic form.

SUMMARY:Your Consent Sucks
DESCRIPTION:The reality is that many of the frameworks people use for consent\, the ones meant to keep us ‘safe’ or to mitigate risk in kink/rope sessions\, have major gaps or simply don’t work for a lot of people. Whether it’s because of neurospicy brains\, the exchange of money for services\, exchanging money for services\, trauma\, or simply the impossibility of remembering someone’s 3 page list of soft/hard limits and boundaries… the truth is most consent and negotiation scripts don’t function in real life. So\, what do we actually do instead? Let’s talk about it with some nuance\, an roundtable discussion bringing together different personal and professional approaches and perspectives on consent and negotiation\, and how we might approach intimacy in play in ways that actually work for the people involved.

SUMMARY:The Chaos Method: Embracing Rope Experiments
DESCRIPTION:Creativity thrives when we give ourselves permission to experiment without pressure to achieve “perfect” results. This playful\, experimental class invites you to break free from following patterns and discover your authentic rope voice through structured play. We’ll use the “what if?” method to deconstruct familiar rope patterns and rebuild them into something uniquely yours. What if a chest harness was asymmetrical? What if the tightest point was somewhere unexpected? What if you only used rope on one side of the body? \n\nThrough live demonstration and guided prompts\, you’ll be encouraged to experiment alongside the teaching. This class celebrates mistakes as learning opportunities and “failures” as discoveries. You’ll develop confidence in your creative problem-solving abilities whilst building a toolkit of techniques for breaking moulds and creating personalised rope experiences. Perfect for anyone feeling stuck in pattern-following mode or wanting to inject more of their personality into their rope. Expect laughter\, surprises\, and the freedom to truly fuck around and find out what happens when you trust your creative impulses. While you’ll be tying with your own partner in your own space\, we’ll create opportunities for sharing discoveries and collective learning throughout.\nNote on recording: This class is participation heavy and works with what participants bring and show. We will ask you to only bring and show stuff if you are okay with being in the recording. You can still participate without being part of the recording. We will explain details at the beginning of the class.

SUMMARY:Dancing Bamboo Finch
DESCRIPTION:The performance is carried out using thin\, long bamboo rods and chopsticks\, which are commonly used by Asians for eating. We have incorporated these elements into our Shibari performance. After the performance\, we will share some thoughts on the use of short bamboo rods and chopsticks in Shibari.

SUMMARY:Rope Trends\, Beauty Standards\, and Accessibility
DESCRIPTION:Shibari does not exist in a vacuum\, the subculture has its own trends and norms. These are not static\, but change with time and follow power. Ties and aesthetics have different levels of accessibility. This is a demo and exploration on the last 15 years of rope trends. Ceci will share their observations\, and you’re invited to share your own experiences. \nWe will try some retro ties and analyze the similarities and differences with current trends. Ceci will cover both harnesses and suspension shapes through demos and a presentation. Some ties are possible to self-tie\, some will require tying with a partner.

SUMMARY:The Cocoon
DESCRIPTION:A cocoon isn’t meant to capture you. It’s meant to give you space to evolve. \nThis session looks on that contradiction: how do we tie someone into a neat\, intentional package while still leaving them space — physical\, emotional\, psychological — to breathe\, soften\, and feel safe? What makes restraint feel containing rather than confining? Does a cocoon need to involve the whole body\, or can it be partial and still effective?  We’ll experiment with nets\, wraps\, and shapes that create an inside — a place to retreat into — rather than something to fight against. \nThe Cocoon explores: \n\nRope as shelter rather than trap\nThe balance between immobilisation and internal freedom\nHow structure\, pressure\, and negative space change the emotional tone of a tie\n\n

SUMMARY:Crab Variations - Partial
DESCRIPTION:The crab position is an iconic form in shibari. The semi-suspension\, which allows one to play both with body openness and balance\, is particularly suited to it. Although it is based on a few core principles : an angular structure\, forearms often tied to the legs\, and a strong body opening. This position can be explored through many variations. \nThe intentions it conveys can range from exposure to objectification\, from play with breath to intense physical constraint\, and more. The goal of this class will be to explore different variations of this position\, in order to discover its richness and diversity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto: Helios by Yankee

SUMMARY:Fuck Around and Find Out - Unhinged and Sadistic Rope
DESCRIPTION:A class on sadistic play in rope that isn’t about traditional suffering/ semenawa – more a celebration of the unhinged\, mischievous and experimental. Pretty much a session to explore those ideas you wondered about but maybe felt a bit too unsure to try. The things which you weren’t sure if it would work because they either sounded too silly\, chaotic or impossibly mean.\n\n\nWhat happens if I tie your (x) to your (x)? What if I take this and tie it in your…? Would this bizarre set up work as a predicament? You get the gist. In this session Sophia will demonstrate a selection of the things that “succeeded” when she decided to fuck around and find out\, showing some of her favourite ways to be mean and unhinged during more sadistic style play Feel inspired and/or horrified depending on your mood and proclivities. You will most likely be entertained if nothing else.

SUMMARY:Mermaid Variations
DESCRIPTION:This technical workshop on the half mermaid tie calls for all merpeople – mermaids\, mermen\, and merthems – of all sizes and shapes. We will queer up this classic by playing with geometrics\, rope placement\, and suspension attachments. How do you make it supportive\, tie it on a soft body\, or make it more masculine? How do you make it more curvy or straight in suspension\, or suspend it from the back? \nJoin this class for not only a deeper understanding of the half mermaid\, but also a broader understanding of tailoring ties. There will be both demos and tie-along exercises\, you can self-tie or tie with a partner.

SUMMARY:HOW Not WHAT
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will look at how we connect with our partners when we tie. The best rope scenes aren’t usually WHAT we tie but HOW we tie it. It is easy when tying to get lost in a pattern or a plan we have in mind and forget to make it engaging for the person in the rope. This workshop delves into our rhythm\, breathing\, rope handling\, physical contact and metaphorical punctuation when we tie and how we can use these aspects to create different headspaces.
