SUMMARY:Domination and Bondage
DESCRIPTION:What happens\, when we combine physical control with power dynamics? We will dive deep into body language and positions on both sides of the rope. You will explore your roles and archetypes to find new nuances and inspiration. Ceci will support you in both tying dominantly and finding your headspace\, so you can find new enjoyment in rope play.\nTo attend\, you need to tie the single column tie fluently and have some practice in letting go of focusing on the ropes. SUMMARY:Playfight & Rough Body Play Lab
DESCRIPTION:Use your body in a vastly different way. Restricted\, restrained\, maybe even tamed – our bodies are subdued to very strict rules and movements in our daily lives. Time to get primal and rough. Rough body play allows for more fighting\, emotions\, and a deeper exploration of power dynamics than play fights. \nOnce a month we open Karada House for 2 hours of randori (free fights) time to try your new skills and have fun. Our amazing instructor Montse will guide through \n• warm-up exercises \n• consent & safety \n• dos & don’ts \nAfter that – fight! \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every third Wednesday of the month\, 7.00 pm-9.00 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to know your body\, its boundaries\, and needs in terms of health and safety \nWhat to Bring: comfortable\, sport clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined. \n  \nWhat else to know \nBefore purchasing a solidarity ticket\, please check here if you are eligible for one.

SUMMARY:Kasumi Hourai – Foundations
DESCRIPTION:Kasumi Hourai is coming to Berlin to teach her unique traditional Japanese rope bondage style. Kasumi–san’s wabi–sabi concept\, style\, and variation is continually evolving and heavily influenced by a profoundly traditional upbringing with aesthetic roots in ikebana/kadō (flower arranging) and sadō/chadō (tea ceremony). She brings a refined\, haunting aesthetic\, combining elements of Japanese culture with Kinbaku as kyokuero (eroticism) and ku (suffering). Kasumi started her studies with Akechi Denki and continued her studies with Naka Akira. She has been tying for over 25 years at this point. \nIn order for you to dive deeper into her style\, we are offering two 2-day workshops. In January 2025\, Kasumi will teach the foundations of her style. On 18-19 October 2025\, Kasumi will return and build up on what has been learned in January diving into the aspects of connection and control which integrate and are inspired by the Japanese at of Ikebana. You can visit the January and October workshops separately\, however\, we strongly recommend participating in the first workshop to get the most out of the second. Karada House is offering a 10% discount if you purchase both classes together at once. \n  \nFoundations is a weekend-long workshop that will bring your rope practice back to some fundamental parts of classical Japanese rope bondage for an in-depth inquiry about all its little details. Then we will go into the intricate depths of classic Takate Kote structures and other patterns and variations such as hip harnesses. Day 1 will culminate in suspension work and semenawa floor play. The second day will go deeper into classic patterns and tying. We will explore little variations of the TK\, and work with Hishi (diamond) and Ashi( side) patterns and sequences.. At the end of the two days all participants will tie their partners in a community tying session. \nBy purchasing a ticket to this weekend’s workshop\, you are also on the guest list for Kasumi’s performance on Friday\, January 17th\, 2025. \nThere are also limited spaces for private sessions or lessons on January 21st\, 2025 available. \nModel for this Workshop: Tamandua \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 18-19\, 2025\, 11-6 pm (lunch break included) \nFormat: Workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: Japanese with simultaneous English translation \nMinimum Knowledge Level:  \nFor the ones tying / riggers: \n– good understanding of fundamental techniques and concepts in Shibari / Kinbaku.\n– you must be able to tie a solid gote suitable for suspension\, in any style.\n– basic understanding of suspension line management\n– good understanding of rope safety\n– you must be open to exploring traditional Japanese concepts \nFor the ones getting tied / models: \n– you must feel comfortable being tied in a gote\n– you must have some prior experience in suspensions\n– a good understanding of safety in Shibari\, especially the difference between nerve compression and blood circulation loss\n– you must be open to expressing\, communicating\, and exploring vulnerabilities in rope\n– You must be open to exploring traditional Japanese concepts\, including with erotic context and ideas of suffering \nPlease note that switching is not possible due to time constraints and a cumulative teaching style. \nWhat to Bring:  \n– Jute ropes (at least 10-14 lengths of ropes\, 5-6mm in diameter). SUMMARY:Archetypes of Shibari
DESCRIPTION:In this online series\, we will be exploring the ‘classic’ shapes of shibari\, which will be referred to as ‘archetypes’. Even though shibari is still early in its development\, there are already clear repeated patterns in its short history. These archetypes have become synonymous with the practice of shibari\, particularly rope bondage with a Japanese influence. Shapes such as Kata-Ashi Zuri (one leg suspension)\, Gyaku-Ebi Zuri (reverse shrimp suspension) and harnesses such as Gote Shibari (hands tied behind the back) are often repeated – let’s delve into why. \nWhat is an Archetype? \nAn archetype can be any of the following: \n1. a statement\, pattern of behaviour\, prototype\, or a main model that other objects copy\, emulate\, or “merge” into. You could also consider this a “standard example”\n2. the Platonic concept of pure form\, believed to embody the fundamental characteristics of a thing.\n3. a collectively-inherited unconscious idea\, a pattern of thought\, image\, etc\, that is universally present\, in individual psyches\, as in Jungian psychology\n4. a constantly-recurring symbol or motif in literature\, painting\, or mythology. This definition refers to the recurrence of characters or ideas sharing similar traits throughout various\, seemingly unrelated cases in classic storytelling and the media. This usage of the term draws from both comparative anthropology and from Jungian archetypal theory. \nBy looking at shapes as Archetypes\, rather than as an ideal form\, only then can we understand what is necessary to maintain or what modifications are needed to adjust to the individual experience. We will be exploring how to modify and choose variations depending on skill level\, risk assessment\, body differences\, aesthetics and what kind of mood or sensation you want to focus on. Each Archetype will also include options with and without suspension. The focus will be on adapting to the circumstances and dynamics rather than reaching for an ideal form. \nEach class will involve a detailed discussion about each Archetype’s aesthetics\, physical and psychological effect as well as how to play with them for different purposes such as versatility for transitions\, Semenawa or for sustainability. With demonstrations to show different variations and the option for students to also lab their own version of the archetype. \nThis series is suitable for all levels\, it is also particularly useful for those who are interested in teaching Shibari\, as the theory of archetypes this can help to create a more mindful and approachable pedagogy to Shibari education. It comes with an extra introduction video to be watched at your own time and discretion. \n  \nJanuary 11th: Gyaku-Ebi \nJanuary 14th: M-Shape \nJanuary 18th: Torsions \nJanuary 21st: Inversions \nJanuary 25th: Third Rope for Gote \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 11\, 14\, 18\, 21\, 25\, 4 pm- 7 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop/demo \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge level: Basic Knowledge of Shibari e.g some context of the culture and consent practices\, experience with simple knots and frictions if they wish to tie along \nWhat to bring:  Rope if you would like to tie along\, and participate with a partner. \nSolo or Partnered:  All constellations. You can hang out\, have coffee\, tea\, or soft drinks and chat with people if you don’t feel like tying. Being there is enough! \nNote: This is not a rope jam. It’s a peer learning environment. \n  \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Friends \nTime: Janury 9th\, 2025\, 7-10 pm \nCost: 5-15 Euros \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: all levels welcome \nWhat to Bring:  yourself\, optionally ropes  (we can also lend you ropes) \nSolo or Partnered:  both work\, this is peer learning so partners are not necessary \n  \nSchedule: \n6.45 pm-7:05 pm: doors open (to ensure a safer space\, we ask you to be on time so everyone can see who is present at the starting circle)\n7:15 pm: starting circle\n7.30 pm – 10:00 pm: peer learning and social hangout\, space is chatty and there is no music \n  \nFormat: \nYour role as a participant is to share your knowledge and to get inspired by other people. The power of the facilitator is over the space and safety\, not over the knowledge shared. \n  \nAre you a newbie? \nWelcome to the hangout! You can attend at any time of your rope journey. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn! To get started with your rope skills\, take a look at our workshop schedule.\nWe recommend that you arrive at the beginning of the night. We have an introduction circle and go through the code of conduct and other important information. You will also see who else is there. SUMMARY:“Stormy” Tying – Ranboo Style Series
DESCRIPTION:Ranboo\, literally translated means stormy\, overwhelming\, wild. \nAbout 10 years ago\, Barkas developed Ranboo as a way of rejecting a static and often seemingly boring practice of rope bondage. A wild dance while tying with each other is the result.\nRanboo is characterized by a large amplitude of variation of distance\, speed\, and intensity\, paired with an element of surprise. It is not a set of patterns or a “visual goal” but a way of interacting\nwith your partner(s) through rope\, a specific interview type\, if you want. \nIn this 3-parts workshop series\, Barkas and Addie will accompany the participants through the principles\, applications\, and variations of Ranboo\, while keeping a strong focus on safety. \nDisclaimer: The highly dynamic nature of ranboo comes with the potential of greater risk for injuries. We strongly recommend participants watch the series in order and only \npractice exercises from the latter parts if they are proficient in the basic techniques. \n  \nPart I Introduction (January 8\, 2025\, 7-10 pm CET) \nIn the introduction\, we will get to know the key terms of ranboo and get familiar with movement and techniques to safely tie in this style. \n  \nPart II Next Level (January 15\, 2025\, 7-10 pm CET) \nWe increase the pace and variation of distance and apply the principles learned in Part I to some standard patterns. \n  \nPart III Floor & Air (January 22\, 2025\, 7-10 pm CET) \nRanboo on the floor is challenging due to various aspects. In this part\, we use these challenges to further familiarize participants with the concepts developed in the previous parts but on the floor. Some challenges of ranboo that appear on the floor are similar when we go into suspensions. Other challenges are added. We go through a suspension and see how ranboo affects the way we can tie in the air. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: January 8\, 15\, 22 2025\,  7-10 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Active participants\, i.e. those who would like to tie along or try the exercises immediately\, should be able to tie a single/double column tie and have some knowledge about different frictions\, as well as suspension experiences for that corresponding part. None of that is a threshold for participation in general and participants of all levels are welcome.\nWe strongly recommend not to tie along when you are not proficient in the underlying rope techniques. \nWhat to Bring:  ropes (the techniques covered work well for natural fiber rope\, and synthetic will behave differently. This series is not suited to tying with synthetic rope)\, a partner\, suspension point if you want to tie along in Part III \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days. \n  \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:BIPOC Utopias – Kink & Intimacy
DESCRIPTION:This is a separatist space to discuss and lab about kink\, intimacy\, and virtual play space for black\, brown and Indigenous folks. \nFor quite some time\, Caritia has been musing on encouraging and inspiring more BIPOC into the realm of alternative lifestyles and ways of relating. There are many systemic barriers to this\, including patriarchy\, capitalism\, classism and racism. In an effort to change the narrative\, Caritia wishes to offer a monthly gathering of BIPOC to talk\, learn about a topic or practice and support one another through a community that is actively built together\, with the aspiration to gather in person once a year. \nCaritia’s intention is to create a guided\, active space for learning and coming together. This format has the potential to morph and change as the group sees fit. \nThis space is specifically for Afro-diaspora\, South American\, black\, brown\, Indigenous\, and marginalized individuals who are interested in kink and BDSM through the lens of intersectional nuances and transformative justice. This space may not fit for all marginalised demographics\, as it is impossible to cover such diversity in one space. \n  \nWhat we will do: \nJanuary – Introductions\, boundaries and basic frameworks \nFebruary – Consent\, communication and impact play \nMarch – Negotiations and Power dynamics \nApril – What’s new? Questions & Curiosity ask anything time. \nMay – Rope Rope Rope \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 5th\, 7-8.30pm CET \nFormat: lab (virtual) \nAudience:  BIPOC  \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: All levels welcome \nWhat to Bring: \nSolo or Partnered:  all constellations welcome (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: No \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop and discussion are held in spoken English with automated captions in English which are provided by Zoom. SUMMARY:Cuddling the Nervous System
DESCRIPTION:Make space for some slow grounding and connection\, and give your nervous system the cuddles that it needs! It’s a new year\, and for most of us\, that’s come with a lot of intensity–whether it’s doing too many things with too many people\, having entirely too much time alone\, or just the emotional shittiness that winter and holidays can bring. \nIn this session\, Emory will offer some simple techniques to give your nervous system the comfort and regulation it’s craving. We’ll start with how we are in that moment (come as you are!) and then move into slow\, non-sexual\, touch-based connection–first with ourselves and then with others. \nJoin from the comfort of your own bed or couch–the cozier the better! We’ll explore both self-regulation and co-regulation\, so you’re encouraged to attend with a friend or constellation you’re comfortable cuddling with (everyone needs a ticket). If you can’t or don’t want to have someone else there\, you’ll still be able to benefit from the session. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  January 3rd\, 2025\, 7-9 pm CET\, Berlin time \nFormat: slow space (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: none \nWhat to Bring: A place to sit and lay down comfortable\, pillows and blankets\, a plushie or comfort object if you have one. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all pro-actively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat else to know \nBefore purchasing a solidarity ticket\, please check here if you are eligible for one. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n
