DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we’ll read bondage and restraint as sexual practices within the context of BDSM against a broader history of restraint. Turning towards the anti-psychiatric work of Franco Basaglia and the ubiquity of physical restraint as a tool of the medical establishment and carceral state\, we’ll start to contend with what it means to take up and play with forms and techniques implicated in an almost unimaginable amount of violence and harm. We’ll ask: what logics of restraint in medical and carceral contexts end up reproduced in kink and sex-positive communities? How does the broader social and political practice of restraint shape who our spaces are accessible to and how? What are the impacts of legislation that criminalizes voluntary restraint? How do we take restraint more seriously?  \nAbout this series\nKink is Political is an online discussion with Addie Tahl\, Georg Barkas\, Andrea Rimon\, and occasional special guests. Participants are invited to join a discussion during which we unite critique with an emphasis on the practical and day-to-day issues and challenges of kink\, intimacy\, and relationships. \nFocusing on concepts central to BDSM\, leather\, rope\, and sex-positive communities\, it interrogates widely adopted approaches and commonly held notions. It aims to understand the politics of kink beyond the language of sexual liberation and politics of sexual liberalism\, both frames that have proven insufficient in addressing widespread harm\, a rising international tide of sex-negativity and reaction\, or in guaranteeing that the most marginalized can sexually flourish. \nKink is Political is an examination of the contexts and consequences of how we talk about and understand gender and sexuality. It is a forum to think about how kink spaces and practices operate\, what works\, what doesn’t\, and what we can use to build something better.

DESCRIPTION:During a bondage session\, the breathing of the tied person is often impacted. Even a simple chest harness can become real torture when breathing in certain positions. Rope is a perfect tool for exploring breath play. A rigger can influence their partner’s breathing through different areas: the mouth\, throat\, ribcage\, or abdomen. \nBefore experimenting\, we’ll take time to understand how breathing works\, what happens in the body during breath restriction\, and how to recognize and reduce the risks involved. We’ll also discuss how to communicate clearly with your partner before\, during\, and after this type of play\, so that everyone can make informed decisions and stay within their own boundaries. \nThis workshop is also deeply focused on the experience of the tied person. We’ll explore the wide range of physical sensations\, emotional responses\, and psychological states that breath play can evoke\, and learn how to observe\, understand\, and respond to them\nthroughout a rope scene. \nOnce we’ve covered these foundations\, we’ll experiment with different ways of incorporating breath play into rope. What have your culture\, family\, community\, relationships\, laws\, and personal experiences taught you about saying yes\, saying no\, asking for what you need\, and responding when someone else says no? \nCaritia invites participants into a practical and reflective space to explore boundaries and negotiation through a holiday-season lens. Ceci will guide you through a collective warm up\, starting with a moment of grounding self-tying and then finding a partner or a small group to tie with. Afterwards you will have plenty of time to chat\, tie\, and connect in our lovely big house. The garden with suspension points and hashiras will also be open for you if it’s not raining. \nWhat happens at the Singles Rope Jam?\n\nSpace introduction and intro round at 7.30pm\nGuided self-tying and tying in pairs or small groups\nFree mingling\, cruising space\, and tying with people\n\nAll participation is voluntary\, and you get to choose who you want to partner with\, or stay with self-tying for part or all of the event. Ceci is available for any support you might need around navigating the social space. Doors open at 7pm and close at 9pm. There will be hammocks and little areas for cuddling and enjoying touch. Get or give massages. Do some soft\, slow kink. Or hang out in the kitchen with us and just chat. We will be baking a bunch of cakes and there will be coffee\, tea\, and snacks to nourish your bodies and souls. \nLight and slow kink interactions are welcome. Anything that allows you to come back to yourself and into connection with others in a soft and nice way. This is not a play party or sex club\, but a playful community event.
