SUMMARY:Rope Hangout
DESCRIPTION:  \nA rope hangout is an event where we learn from each other\, peer-to-peer\, get to know each other\, and do rope in a relaxed atmosphere\, regardless of experience level. You can hang out\, have coffee\, tea\, or soft drinks and chat with people if you don’t feel like tying. Being there is enough! \n  \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Friends \nCost: 5-15 Euros sliding scale at the door \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: all levels welcome \nWhat to Bring:  yourself\, optionally ropes  (we can also lend you ropes) \nSolo or Partnered:  both works\, this is peer-learning so partners are not necessary \n  \nSchedule: \n6.45 pm-7:05 pm: doors open (to ensure a safer space\, we ask you to be on time so everyone can see who is present at the starting circle)\n7:15 pm: starting circle\n7.30 pm – 10:00 pm: peer learning and social hangout\, space is chatty and there is no music \n  \nFormat: \nYour role as the participant is to share your knowledge and to get inspired by other people. You ask for help from other participants and help others whenever needed\, especially in risky or emergency situations. There is at least one facilitator present for the entirety of the hangout. The role of the facilitator is to offer the space and be the contact person in case of safety concerns. The facilitator is a participant\, not a teacher. The power of the facilitator is over the space and safety\, not over the knowledge shared. \n  \nAre you a newbie? \nWelcome to the hangout! You can attend at any time of your rope journey. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn! To get started with your rope skills\, take a look at our workshop schedule.\nWe recommend for you arrive at the beginning of the night. We have an introduction circle and go through the code of conduct and other important information. You will also see who else is there. If you can’t make it to the starting circle\, please contact us in advance.\nYou can always attend Rope Hangout alone and find new friends when you get there. If you feel socially awkward\, like many of us do\, bring someone you trust with you\, or send us a message in advance so we can prepare to give you extra support. \n  \nSafety Concept \n  \nYou need to bring proof of vaccination or proof that you are “genesen” (official proof of having had Covid-19 within the last 6 months) in order to be let inside. \nHand disinfectant provided in multiple places. All surfaces are disinfected and will be disinfected in between use. \nSpace is limited to give more space for everyone. \nWe frequently air the space and also use fans for more circulation. \nWe partially partition off spaces for tying for more safety/intimacy. \nYou must wear a mask at all times\, with the exception of you sitting in a dedicated tying spot with a partner/partners of your own household.

SUMMARY:Rope Basics: Learning Tension with Hojo Cuffs
DESCRIPTION:  \nTension is one of the trickiest\, yet one of the most rewarding and important principles of tying. It takes time\, skills\, and knowledge to be able to tie with great rope tension. SUMMARY:Building Safe(r) Spaces
DESCRIPTION:Building Safe(r) Spaces is a one-day-workshop for anyone who wishes to create a safe(r) space for their respective network/group/community. It does not matter if you actually have a space or if you create temporary safe(r) containers for your events – if you are interested in making them safe(r) and wish to deep dive into what that means for you and how to actually (and very practicably) build them\, this workshop is for you. \nWe will approach the topic from different angles: personal\, interpersonal\, community\, societal\, political\, ethical\, economic and purely practical. \nTogether we will dive deep into your own wishes\, desires and unique circumstances for creating a safe(r) space and work our way through critical intro and outro-spection all the way to creating an action plan for you. We will work together as a group and in small breakout rooms to gain perspectives\, understandings and allies. \nThis workshop will not give a “to-do list or tell you how to model your space after our or anybody else’s idea of what a safe(r) space is. We will rather try to guide you to evaluate and build your very own idea of a safe(r) space for your needs\, ethics and your community. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  November 6\, 2021\, 2pm-7pm (please arrive around 10min before the class) CET \nFormat: workshop (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: none \nWhat to Bring: questions\, ideas and concepts around space\, pen & paper\, an open mind\, curiosity to challenge and build with yourself and others   \nClass recording: no \n  \nWhat we will teach/do \n• Getting to know all participants  \n• Creating your utopia  \n• Critically inquiring and learning about concepts of safety\, spaces\, power dynamics\, (inter)personal relationships \n• Defining roles\, audiences\, spaces  \n• Holding a safe(r) space \n• Practical solutions to creating a safe(r) space  \n• Ethos\, ethics and communication \n• Community – Forgiving space(s)  \n• Creating an action plan \n• Closing  \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Kink und Trauma
DESCRIPTION:  \nTrauma ist ein großes Wort.

SUMMARY:Kink and Trauma
DESCRIPTION:  \nTrauma is a big word. But it can also simply stand for the fact that pain\, (also psychological pain)\, and loss are a part of life. Injuries can heal. To paraphrase Peter Levine\, who is groundbreaking with his work on the subject of trauma and healing\, it is not the difficult experience or the accident itself that is the problem. It is the traumatic energy bound in the body that can be so hard to deal with. This tension in the nervous system can be released. When the release is possible it has a beneficial influence on the overall situation of the body and the state of mind. \nIn this workshop and discussion\, Emma Steel will guide participants to explore breathing techniques\, body awareness meditations\, and very simple exercises that can be done lying down or sitting that regulate our nervous systems. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 30th\,  2021\, 11am-6pm \nFormat: in-house workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English / German translation \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Intermediate\, advanced \nWhat to Bring:  Bring an object that soothes you or calms you down\, like a blanket or cuddly toy or a stone\n \nSolo or Partnered:  All constellations welcome (Limited to 10 participants) \n  \nWhat we will teach/do \n• nervous system regulation exercises \n• breath techniques \n• What is trauma-sensitive communication and behavior? \n• expectations\, needs\, and intention \n• body awareness meditations \n• feedback & questions \n• close \n  \nSafety Concept \nThis event falls under our Covid-19 guidelines. \nYou need to bring proof of testing (not older than 24 hours)\, or proof of vaccination in order to be let inside. \nHand disinfectant provided in multiple places. SUMMARY:Shame
DESCRIPTION:Everyone knows shame\, even little children.\nShame is\, much like anger\, an emotional state that most of us try to avoid at all costs.\nSome of us love it in play – and use shame and embarrassment consciously for erotic stimulation and role play. \nIt can be both very uncomfortable and very lusty – but it is always obviously palpable. Shame is sumptuous.\nIt protects our innermost core\, our dignity\, and our integrity. \nTo celebrate shame\, to bathe in it\, can be highly erotic. And\, it can be very satisfying to do this to someone who craves it and truly lose yourself in the pleasure of it all. \nIn order to create a trusting atmosphere where tops\, bottoms\, and switches can have an exchange on their own terms there is often the possibility to divide up into smaller groups. Sensitivity around all kinds of differences and positionings on all levels is expected of participants. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October  9th\, 2021\, 11am-6pm \nFormat: workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: N/a \nWhat to Bring: yourself\, curiosity\, comfortable clothes\, snack food\, blanket \nSolo or Partnered:  both work (everybody needs to buy a ticket) \n  \nWhat we will teach/offer you \n– we will examine our own experiences with shame and embarrassment through conversations and body and breath exercises. \n– we focus on negotiation\, safety\, and aftercare. \n– we will experiment with shaming others and allowing ourselves to be shamed \n– we will indulge in play and exercises dealing with humiliation \n– we will look at the intention of humiliation \n– there will be time and space for various scenarios and role-play options that will be suggested and discussed\, and if desired\, can be tried in short play scenarios. Whoever does not wish to participate\, may use this time instead for planning fun humiliation scenarios. \n– feedback and close \n  \nSafety Concept \nYou need to bring proof of testing (not older than 24 hours)\, or proof of vaccination in order to be let inside. \nHand disinfectant provided in multiple places. All surfaces are disinfected and will be disinfected in between use. \nSpace is limited to give more space for everyone. \nWe frequently air the space and also use fans for more circulation. \nYou must wear a mask at all times. \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, queer\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, agender. \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined. \n

SUMMARY:Introduction to Articulation in Rope
DESCRIPTION:What is articulation? \nSomething you might be more familiar with than you think. In tying\, articulation involves where and how events and arcs begin and end. Articulation is involved in the difference taking an appropriate amount of time for every single action while tying\, but also making sure that tying doesn’t become boring\, homogenous\, and bland. “Articulation\,” although often in a different set of terms is what most teachers are thinking about when they tell their students to “slow down.” \nUnderstanding articulation is vital for anyone interested in tying. Although rarely discussed\, the ability to break down and analyze movement is one of the most fundamental skills of the practice. Articulation is an important component of any movement analysis. \nDrawing on physical theater exercises\, Andrea Rimon will help students explicitly identify points of articulation and refine their ability to break down scenes as well as to make intentional choices. This class will be a study on how to make each moment count. In addition to drawing on exercises and techniques from physical theater\, we will take a broad theoretical approach that touches on anatomy\, linguistics\, and semiotics to examine where concepts of articulation align. Taking all of these ideas together\, they will explore articulation as the nexus of content and expression\, an important and politically charged site of creativity production. \nIn other words\, they will help students identify\, grow familiar with\, and engage in play with something that is part and parcel of any good tying experience. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 8\, 2021\, 7pm-10pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop / demonstration \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: – \nWhat to bring: ropes and a partner if you wish to tie along \nSolo or partnered? Both is fine. If you wish to tie along\, you need a partner (everybody needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The session will be recorded and available for 14 days after the workshop. The participants will not be recorded. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Change and Loss
DESCRIPTION:Dealing with change and loss – we all do it. All of the time.\nIn pandemic times we are confronted with a huge amount of change and loss on both personal levels and globally. \nMourning as a cultural skill or a community practice is often neglected or denied. Mourning is absolutely essential for our well being and our ability to adapt and transform when change and loss happen.\nMourning is super personal\, and yet it is something that can connect us when we dare to show a glimpse or a huge wave of it. Mourning needs witness. Mourning also needs movement so it can contract and expand and does not get stuck in our bodies. \nFor some of us\, just attending online events is so new and sometimes uncomfortable that it can bring out feelings of grief and and sorrow. \nLet us be aware of that when we meet online and make time for feelings of grief\, of sadness\, of loss and maybe of feeling abandoned.\nLet us be aware that holding each other and the feeling of being held and truly seen is difficult online.\nThis is why we will start with exercises that centre and ground and resource us.\nThese exercises are very simple breathing and body awareness techniques as well as working with images in our minds. \nThere will be some teaching about mourning and grief related to death\, break ups\, changes in our bodies\, trauma\, and ongoing oppression and injustice. \nAnd finally there will be a sharing circle that invites you to talk about your own experiences with mourning and loss. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 6th\, 2021\, 7pm-9pm CET \nFormat: discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: – \nWhat to Bring:  nothing \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: no. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. If that is still too much or they are out of stock\, feel free to send us a message via info@karada-house.de

SUMMARY:Andrea Rimon & Georg Barkas: Closing Discussion
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe conference ends with a conversation about what occurred during the conference. Everyone is invited to speak. What did you\, the participants\, take home? How can we create space for queer embodiment in the future? This is the place to share and reflect. \n  \nThis session is part of the Queer Practices / Queer Embodiment remote transdisciplinary conference that aims to bring together artists\, theorists\, and practitioners. The conference continues our work of building a community that is focused on intentionally developing bodily practices. We want our space to be a place for political growth and experimentation using all the materials that bodywork\, sex education\, and cultural inquiry can provide. \nWe aim to take advantage of the opportunity for an online conference. We seek to engage a broader audience that may be familiar with sex-positive culture but is not necessarily attuned to a wider set of political concerns\, or approaches to gender and sexuality that are more often encountered within academic\, activist\, and artistic spaces. We want to put together a conference that will be open to the public and focus on fostering challenging yet accessible conversation. \nQueer Practices / Queer Embodiment is curated and organized by a collaborative team consisting of Andrea Rimon (an intimacy choreographer and movement artist) and Georg Barkas (a tying and sexuality educator) and Karada House in Berlin (a queer art/research space). It is sponsored by Karada House and Github for Good. \nYou can browse the full program and get access to this session/the conference here \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 3rd\, 2021\, 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: transdisciplinary conference \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, automated closed captions provided \nRecording: yes\, will be available for 30 days to the participants of the conference \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with all the necessary data for this event. \nThis event is free. You can also choose a payment for your ticket which will be used by Karada House to finance similar events in the future. \nphoto: Caio Oviedo

SUMMARY:Jolene Jean Zubrow: Genealogy of Body Piercing // Luna Duran: The Work of Decolonization
DESCRIPTION:  \nGenealogy of Body Piercing \nJolene Jean Zubrow’s workshop will consist of a genealogy (in the spirit of Foucault) of contemporary body piercing practices in the United States of American and Western Europe from the 1960s through the present day. This project is undertaken as a case study\, in what is ultimately a remediation of philosophical conversations regarding subcultural practices and their fecundity as sources of subversion against unjust social arrangements and systems. Jo will argue that looking towards piercing is not best done for purposes of subversion or vindication\, but to reveal the problematizations upon which our practices always rely. Such an approach can be a more fertile ground for thinking about such practices in relation to social justice and ethical life.\n \n  \nThe Work of Decolonization \nThrough the critical lens of personal experience\, Luna Duran will introduce a general audience to the modern industry of body piercing. Brought into the United States through the private tattoo & piercing parties frequented by the gay leather community in California\, the practice of Body Piercing has grown into an industry that contends with\, often\, conflicting\nnarratives. Having spent over two decades of her life developing from an enthusiast to a professional in Body Art\, Luna has navigated a predominantly cis\, white\, male industry in the body of a queer native South American woman of color; providing her with a unique perspective which she documents on her skin through scarification and the consequences of enduring extreme ritual performances. She will share her mission of decodifying and deconditioning the assimilated scripts of white supremacy\, misogyny\, and heteronormativity inbuilt in our greater culture\, acquired by the Body Art industry. This is a call to arms for those who seek to experience the extreme act of self-ownership through body rituals as a path to liberation.
