SUMMARY:Queer and Kinky Unconference 2023
DESCRIPTION:An unconference is the mother of all skill-share events and traditions at Karada House ever since we opened in 2019. Now we are happy to get back to unconference business in our new space! Join us for a whole weekend (or only one day\, if you like). We will gather and share skills and knowledge\, arts\, and interests. What can you bring to the table? what are you curious about learning? \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  September 23rd &24th\, 2023\, 10 am-7 pm \nFormat: unconference \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: know and share about your favorite kinky things\, come and learn other stuff as a total newbie \nWhat to Bring: \nYourself and your knowledge\, curiosity\, comfortable clothes\, and all the toys you want or need for giving a workshop or having fun at the play area in the evening. The point of an unconference is to generate workshops out of the curiosity and knowledge of participants\, so all we ask of you is to actually and actively participate. Also please bring your self-awareness. Give and take\, baby. \nSolo or Partnered:  both\, everyone needs a ticket \nPrice: 40 Euros per person and day \n  \nWhat exactly is a Queer Unconference?\nAn unconference is an event aimed at the exchange of knowledge without a set agenda or presenters. The agenda is made by the attendees in a joint effort and remains flexible throughout the event. Everyone is an active participant and on eye level. \nThere are four rules and one law for an unconference:\nRule #1: Whoever shows up are the right people\nRule #2: Whatever happens is fine (in a kinky context this has to be consensual obviously!)\nRule #3: Whenever it starts is the right time\nRule #4: It is over when it’s over \nLaw: The Law of the two feet: \nEveryone at an unconference is encouraged to practice the law of two feet. The law of two feet says that if you become uninterested at any point\, you are encouraged to leave and join another session. In an unconference\, you are also invited to take breaks at any time\, with the idea that it is sometimes in the breaks that the ‘A-ha’ moments arrive. \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe unconference is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. The garden is only partially accessible at the moment. During the workshop\, we will sit on the floor. Sitting in a chair can also be provided. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand. \n  \nAccommodation: \nFor people coming to this workshop from out of Berlin\, we can offer you accommodation in our space (mattress\, bed linens\, cushions\, bathroom\, shower\, and kitchen) in the common area. If you are interested\, please purchase accommodation. \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, queer\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, agender. \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined.

SUMMARY:Rope Hangout
DESCRIPTION:  \nA rope hangout is an event where we learn from each other\, peer-to-peer\, get to know each other\, and do rope in a relaxed atmosphere\, regardless of experience level. You can hang out\, have coffee\, tea\, or soft drinks and chat with people if you don’t feel like tying. Being there is enough! \nNote: This is not a rope jam. It’s a peer learning environment. \n  \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Friends \nTime: September 21st\, 2023\, 7-10 pm \nCost: 5-15 Euros \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: all levels welcome \nWhat to Bring:  yourself\, optionally ropes  (we can also lend you ropes) \nSolo or Partnered:  both work\, this is peer learning so partners are not necessary \n  \nSchedule: \n6.45 pm-7:05 pm: doors open (to ensure a safer space\, we ask you to be on time so everyone can see who is present at the starting circle)\n7:15 pm: starting circle\n7.30 pm – 10:00 pm: peer learning and social hangout\, space is chatty and there is no music \n  \nFormat: \nYour role as a participant is to share your knowledge and to get inspired by other people. You ask for help from other participants and help others whenever needed\, especially in risky or emergency situations. There is at least one facilitator present for the entirety of the hangout. The role of the facilitator is to offer the space and be the contact person in case of safety concerns. The facilitator is a participant\, not a teacher. The power of the facilitator is over the space and safety\, not over the knowledge shared. \n  \nAre you a newbie? \nWelcome to the hangout! You can attend at any time of your rope journey. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn! To get started with your rope skills\, take a look at our workshop schedule.\nWe recommend that you arrive at the beginning of the night. We have an introduction circle and go through the code of conduct and other important information. You will also see who else is there. If you can’t make it to the starting circle\, please contact us in advance.\nYou can always attend Rope Hangout alone and find new friends when you get there. If you feel socially awkward\, like many of us do\, bring someone you trust with you\, or send us a message in advance so we can prepare to give you extra support. \n  \nWhat’s the space like? \na kitchen and hang-out area \n2 mezzanines for private tying \none large room with suspension points\, hashiras\, bamboo\, and rings provided. \nIn the summer: the silent garden (you can tie in the garden in the summer breeze but we keep noise levels low in this area. \n  \nSafety Concept & Regulation \nPlease consult our safety concept and regulations for this event here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. SUMMARY:Playfight & Rough Body Play Lab
DESCRIPTION:Use your body in a vastly different way. Restricted\, restrained\, maybe even tamed – our bodies are subdued to very strict rules and movements in our daily lives. Time to get primal and rough. Rough body play allows for more fighting\, emotions\, and a deeper exploration of power dynamics than play fights. \nOnce a month we open Karada House for 2\,5 hours of randori (free fights) time to try your new skills and have fun. Our amazing instructor Montse will guide through \n• warm-up exercises \n• consent & safety \n• dos & don’ts \nAfter that – fight! \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every third Tuesday of the month\, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to know your body\, its boundaries\, and needs in terms of health and safety \nWhat to Bring: comfortable\, sport clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand.  \n  \nWho is this event for? \nLGBTQIA+ describes the full spectrum of non-mainstream sexual orientation and/or gender identity\, meaning: lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, genderqueer/fluid\, \nWomên describes people who are identifying themselves as female in their gender identity.

SUMMARY:Self-Suspension: M-Shape
DESCRIPTION:Do you need inspiration for your self suspensions or more support with technique? In this workshop\, you will learn how to create an M-shape self-suspension\, what to take into consideration with harnesses\, and how to continue transitioning from this position. If you have access to a suspension point\, you can join Ceci in creating the basic position. \nCeci’s self-suspension style relies on sturdy harnesses\, sinking into static positions\, making microtransitions and sometimes going for more dramatic flips and flops when the function calls for it. Ceci will offer you different modifications on positions and ties to fit your ability and comfort levels. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  September 19th\, 2023\, 7-9.30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop\, lecture & demonstration\nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: a solid understanding of rope fundamentals (ability to tie harnesses fluently) and suspension (suspension line attachments and locking\, understanding of risks) \nWhat to Bring:  a full suspension rope set for your body shape and comfort\, including safety equipment. Questions\, pen & paper \nSolo or Partnered:  solo \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be available for 14 days after the live class \n  \nWhat we will teach \n\nSafety information\nConsiderations for harnesses\nTransition options\n\n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop and discussion are held in spoken English with automated captions in English which are provided by Zoom. SUMMARY:A Web is a World: Web-Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \nA web lives. It comes into being through processes of growth and is held together with frictions that send sympathetic vibrations throughout the whole web whenever it is touched. A web is a world\, and much like our world it is full of entanglements\, conflicts\, and stories. To weave a web thus is to make a world\, and live a life/lives in it. \nWeb-making is Gandalf’s favorite event in the rope world. It has taught them much about life\, respect\, surrender\, and meaning. In this workshop\, Gandalf will share an easy web-making process that they had developed through their journey in weaving. We will discuss how to add depth and weight to a web and how to imbue it with emotion and energy. Participants are free to deviate and create their own web-weaving processes. \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: We will only use basic frictions (counter-tension\, munter-hitch). It is helpful to know them but having no experience is also ok. \nMaximum amount of participants: 25\, passive watching is welcome \nWhat to bring: Yarn / thin hemp ropes / or anything you would like to use for web weaving. The facilitator will demonstrate with 1-2mm diameter yarn or hemp rope. Bring something to weave on\, preferably something hollow\, such as a wood frame for a painting or hula-hoops\, be creative. QUEEROPE will have 15 frames of 30cm available and also have some yarn you can use. \nConstellations: all constellations welcome \nAccessibility: we will be sitting on the floor but other ways to sit more comfortably can be arranged

SUMMARY:WTF Suspension
DESCRIPTION:  \nI wonder what would happen if I did……this?\nThe progression from pre-determined suspension sequences to freeform/multi-transition airtime is tricky to navigate and usually involves some trial and error. This advanced suspension class outlines ways to build “what does this do” knowledge while minimizing error. We will cover risk mitigation\, changing/reducing strain on the person in rope\, preparing safe escape routes\, and keeping the focus on positive/successful/fulfilling play. There’s also a hella fun game at the end. \nModel: Liff \n  \nFormat: Hands-on workshop \nMinimum knowledge level: Intermediate to Advanced Suspension. Person tying: comfortable and fluid tying suspension with transitions\, can untie/move/lock off an upline quickly (<15 seconds). Person tied: enough suspension experience to know how your body responds in different positions\, and to give feedback to the person tying. You do not have to be flexible\, uninjured\, or able to stay in the air for an extended period of time! The most important part is that tying partners need to be comfortable with each other\, willing to support each other\, and work together with goodwill and kindness. I will take less experienced but supportive over more experienced and competitive any day! \nMaximum amount of participants: 6 pairs\, passive watching is welcome. \nWhat to bring: Ropes\, suspension gear. Probably tights for people being tied. \nConstellations: partnered\, groups \nAccessibility: This class requires suspension\, so all parties need to be comfortable in the air. There is no need to spend a long period of time in the same position\, or even to have hands tied behind the back\, though an upper body harness that takes strain in multiple different directions is best.

SUMMARY:Performance Night
DESCRIPTION:hua hua & Ben: HANGMAN \nhua hua and Ben Mergelsberg will be performing a ritual inspired by the Hanged Man card of Tarot. It is a card that seems all too obviously connected to Shibari\, yet somehow the resonance it can have to our practice can easily be overlooked. Suspended\, trapped in time itself a figure hangs upside down\, unable to act\, they can only be. We invite you to take this opportunity to contemplate what this iconic image can mean to you. \n  \nAddie & Liff: Queering Rope \nAn act of undermining and queering conventional patterns\, Addie and Liff’s alternative take on a well-worn staple. \n  \nYada Kinbaku & miss bop: The Shadow of the Wind \n“The winds of fortune often breeze in unexpectedly. \nSometimes\, they might rage fiercely like a fury hurricane. \nOther times\, they might be a gentle brush against our cheeks. \nThe breezes never disappear\, and they often convey an unstoppable future through their movements. \nEven on days without any touch of wind\, \nwe all can sense its impalpable yet momentous presence. “

SUMMARY:Wild Card: Bringing the Hands behind the Back – Happy Shoulder Edition!
DESCRIPTION:Wild Card Slots are peer-learning slots where participants of Queerope 2023 teach other participants. \n  \nADDIE offers: \nArms-behind-the-back harnesses (TKs etc) are a sticking point for many people; nerve and circulation issues\, joint flexibility\, muscle tension\, and pre-existing strains or injuries need to be effectively handled in order for the tie to feel safe and sustainable. Settling the shoulders is the first step in making ties that work the individual wearing it. This mini spot looks at a gentle\, ergonomic\, rotator-cuff-approved way of bringing the arms behind the back without twisting or force. Bring your tricky shoulders! \n  \nFormat: wild card \nMinimum knowledge level: We’ll be working on upper body ties with wraps over arms and hands behind the back\, either as the person tying or the person tied- both parties can learn from this method! \nMaximum amount of participants: 12 \nWhat to bring: ropes! \nConstellations: all constellations welcome (solo\, partnered\, groups)\, just watching is welcome \nAccessibility: ability to bring arms behind the back\, even if hands cannot cross. Movement is best done while standing or sitting on a high stool if unable to stand.

SUMMARY:Experimental Floating Hashira for Self-Tying
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis experimental class for self-tying enthusiasts will be focused on how we can use a floating hashira as a new element to play around and be creative. Pauline will show you how to anchor your bamboo vertically\, some up-lines anchors\, and demonstrate a few tricks and ideas of how you can incorporate this new element into your self-tying sessions. \n  \nFormat: hands-on workshop\, experimental lab \nMinimum knowledge level: single and double column\, counter tension\, complex frictions. You need to know how to tie harnesses suitable for suspension\, and know and be somehow experienced with regular suspensions: managing the body\, handling up-lines. \nMaximum amount of participants: 12 suspendees\, Passive watching is welcome in this session\, you can also come and learn the anchors without self-suspending \nWhat to bring: 8-10 ropes\, new ropes\, or very little used ropes for the up-lines of the bamboo\, reinforced ropes are even better. Carabiners are welcome. Safety shears are a must. \nConstellations: solo \nAccessibility: This class is not suitable for participants who cannot self suspended on their own yet. I do not recommend this class for people who have wrist and shoulder injuries\, recent nerve injuries other injuries on tendons\, or deep weakness in the hands and arms. You can definitely do this class if you do not feel very strong\, but everyone should be aware of their own capabilities and limitations and adapt the content to their own possibilities and levels. This class requires a medium level of hand grip to practice some up-lines\, others are suitable for lower hand grip. If you get easily dizzy with single-point suspension\, there are ways the participant can practice the self-suspension with less spinning movement\, unlikely to be fully static.
