SUMMARY:Rope Hangout
DESCRIPTION:  \nA rope hangout is an event where we learn from each other\, peer-to-peer\, get to know each other\, and do rope in a relaxed atmosphere\, regardless of experience level. It’s a peer learning environment. \n  \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Friends \nTime: October 19th\, 2023\, 7-10 pm \nCost: 5-15 Euros \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: all levels welcome \nWhat to Bring:  yourself\, optionally ropes  (we can also lend you ropes) \nSolo or Partnered:  both work\, this is peer learning so partners are not necessary \n  \nSchedule: \n6.45 pm-7:05 pm: doors open (to ensure a safer space\, we ask you to be on time so everyone can see who is present at the starting circle)\n7:15 pm: starting circle\n7.30 pm – 10:00 pm: peer learning and social hangout\, space is chatty and there is no music \n  \nFormat: \nYour role as a participant is to share your knowledge and to get inspired by other people. The power of the facilitator is over the space and safety\, not over the knowledge shared. \n  \nAre you a newbie? \nWelcome to the hangout! You can attend at any time of your rope journey. We recommend sharing what you know with others even if you just began to tie. Teaching is the best way to learn! To get started with your rope skills\, take a look at our workshop schedule.\nWe recommend that you arrive at the beginning of the night. We have an introduction circle and go through the code of conduct and other important information. You will also see who else is there. SUMMARY:Playfight & Rough Body Play Lab
DESCRIPTION:Use your body in a vastly different way. Restricted\, restrained\, maybe even tamed – our bodies are subdued to very strict rules and movements in our daily lives. Time to get primal and rough. Rough body play allows for more fighting\, emotions\, and a deeper exploration of power dynamics than play fights. \nOnce a month we open Karada House for 2\,5 hours of randori (free fights) time to try your new skills and have fun. Our amazing instructor Montse will guide through \n• warm-up exercises \n• consent & safety \n• dos & don’ts \nAfter that – fight! \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every third Tuesday of the month\, 7.30 pm-9.30 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & Womên \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: you need to know your body\, its boundaries\, and needs in terms of health and safety \nWhat to Bring: comfortable\, sport clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. People that fit this category can be part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum or not. We created this category specifically to indicate that we also invite cisgender\, heterosexual womên. \nThe word is our own creation and serves as a replacement for the word “womxn” which is now being (ab)used for transmisogynist statements. The ^ in womên represents a marker (similar to the “x” in womxn) that wishes to give emphasis to the fact that womênhood is an intersectional umbrella term that holds many different people and experiences and is not biologically predetermined.

SUMMARY:Semenawa Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Semenawa is a concept in Shibari that is often misunderstood. \nSemenawa is often translated as ‘torture’ rope\, however\, a more accurate term might be to describe it as ‘torment’. The intention is for both the rigger and model to be consciously exploring suffering through rope\, however\, what can make it difficult to grasp is whether or not the suffering should feel pleasurable. Semenawa is often seen as something that must feel painful\, but suffering is not exclusive to pain. \nIn this two-part workshop\, we will be exploring the subtle nuances of creating a tormenting experience without compromising on our limits and safety measures. The focus will be on stirring up the inner torment of the individual experience\, rather than applying pain. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 14th-15th\, 2023\, 11 am – 6 pm (1-hour lunch break) \nFormat: in-house workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: These classes are suitable for participants with more advanced experience with Shibari. Students must have experience with suspension\, particularly suspension with a Gote and be fluent with locking off suspension lines. There will be options available to tie on the floor and semi-suspension only. We also ask that attendants come with a familiar partner so that you are prepared with understanding of how to make adjustments suitable for them as well as feel comfortable to discuss more sensitive topics with each other.  No switching allowed. \nWhat to Bring:  minimum of 7 – 8 ropes of 7\,5 – 8 meters in length\, plus some short pieces if you have\, safety equipment\, comfortable clothing (something you would do movement in)\, questions\, and an open mind \nSolo or Partnered:  Partnered\, price is per pair \n  \nDAY 1 (October 14) 11:00-18:00 \nTIMING AND DISCOMFORT \nOn the first day we will focus on exploring what Semenawa means to you personally\, and how can we express this within our own partners and dynamics. We will begin to understand the suffering that can enrich the experience\, and what suffering can lead to a greater risk of harm both mentally and physically. In the afternoon session\, we will go further into dissecting how to explore edge play with mindfulness\, following a loose shibari sequence that can be adapted to your own skill set\, body requirements\, and dynamic. \n  \nPart 1: 11:00-13:30 \nIntroduction: hua hua’s personal approach to Semenawa \nDiscussion: What is Suffering to you? \nPhysical Practice: observing discomfort in your own body \nRope Practice: Sustainable Suffering \n  \nPart 2: 14:30- 18:00 \nDiscussion: Seme vs Torture \nExercise: Exploring limits \nDemonstration and Practice: Building up intensity \nFinal Demonstration and feedback discussion \n  \nDAY 2 (October 15) 11:00-18:00 \nSUFFERING FROM WITHIN \nThe second day is centered around the psychological play in Semenawa. This class is dedicated to space holding for authentic sharing and being vulnerable with each other. We will be doing exercises that focus on how to create an inviting and empathetic experience for bottoms to experience Semenawa. Participants are encouraged to come to class prepared for heavy discussion on their experience of suffering\, as well as any self-care methods if these discussions are triggering. We will then play upon these discussed topics\, giving space to let these buried emotions out in the ropes. The class will end with a final demonstration and feedback session. \nPart 1: 11:00-13:30 \nIntroduction: Focusing Inwards \nDiscussion: Exploring the suffering we carry within our bodies \nExercise: Setting up a ritualistic scene \nRope Practice: Putting weight into the tie \n  \nPart 2: 14:30- 18:00 \nDiscussion: Psychological torment \nExercise: Predicament play \nDiscussion and Practice: Exercising restraint as the rigger \nFinal Demonstration and feedback discussion \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. If you participate in this workshop and need more assistance please message us at info@karada-house.de beforehand. \n  \nAccommodation: \nFor people coming to this workshop from out of Berlin\, we can offer you accommodation in our space (mattress\, bed linens\, cushions\, bathroom\, shower\, and kitchen) in the common area. SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Akechi Kanna Style Weekend Intensive
DESCRIPTION:  \nFor Akechi Kanna aesthetics and patterns are what comes after deeply connecting to your partner and giving them sweet consensual torment\, delicious suffering\, and sweet relief. In Kanna’s school of rope / Kanna-ryu every rope\, every placement\, every tension\, and action should have an intention that the person tying is controlling. \nIn this weekend intensive workshop\, you will learn the fundamental principles\, the patterns\, and the reasoning and intention behind Kanna’s style of tying. Kanna and Kagura will also suggest and show ways to play with the patterns and demonstrate their application within a session\, as well as show variations\, and explain the underlying theory and historical culture behind them. \n  \nIn Kanna & Kagura’s own words: \nWhether it’s the first time to meet you\, or it’s been a while\, or you’ve met us online but never in person\, no matter what level you are\, we really couldn’t wait to enjoy the ropes in the same space with you all! We’ve always been hoping to be committed to providing safe\, respectful\, equitable\, and enjoyable learning environments for queer or gender diverse students while supporting their development and interaction with their partner. So we are super excited to share these with you! \nIf you’ve taken a workshop in the past or an online class\, you’ve learned the basics and you are probably familiar with Kanna-ryu! Some of the content may overlap\, but this series would be instructive for upgrading your skills or polishing off your knowledge!! In-person workshop classes\, we’re offering skills development training workshops [*not professional teacher training workshop]\, with direct instruction such as checking\, correcting\, and suggesting to each person. \nOur education plan puts students focusing on lifelong learning (the long-term benefits of sustainable rope activities) first\, along with exploring a variety of approaches and methods or diverse possibilities\, while prioritizing developing step-by-step skills\, creativity\, knowledge\, and experience\, rather than pushing new patterns practice as many as possible. \nThe content and instruction of the class will be tailored on a case-by-case basis\, based on the level of the class\, the student’s progress and speed\, reflecting the student’s interests and demands\, and/or the partner’s fatigue\, as well as what is needed and what is good to know. SUMMARY:Trauma-informed Negotiation
DESCRIPTION:Let’s make space to acknowledge the reality that most (if not all) of us may carry some histories and experiences of trauma in our bodies. When we play with the vulnerability and intimacy of kink and BDSM\, we could come into contact with these realities. How do we take better care of ourselves and one another if this is the case? \nThis 2-part-class will support you to enhance your negotiation skills beyond the basics of what you do and don’t want to do during play. How do you communicate and ask transparently about trauma? How could this show up and what to do if someone becomes triggered? What does safety and care look and feel like for you in a kink context? Let’s take an in-depth exploration into how we can develop our negotiation practice to be more trauma-informed. \nThis 2-part-class is suited for people throughout the kink spectrum\, from top to bottom\, Doms and subs\, riggers and people who like to be tied\, and switches alike – we will look from the perspective of both ‘sides’ of the equation\, what needs to be known\, how to support one another\, and how to create negotiation styles which work for you. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  October 10 & November 7th\, 2023\, 7 pm- 9.30 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nKnowledge level:  n/a \nWhat to bring:  A journal. Any questions you have \nSolo or Partnered:  All constellations. The ticket price is per person. \nClass recording: Yes. The session will be recorded and available for 14 days after the workshop. The participants will not be recorded. \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. SUMMARY:Ranboo Style Series
DESCRIPTION:Ranboo\, literally translated means stormy\, overwhelming\, wild. \nAbout 10 years ago\, Barkas developed Ranboo as a way of rejecting a static and often seemingly boring practice of rope bondage. A wild dance while tying with each other is the result.\nRanboo is characterized by a large amplitude of variation of distance\, speed\, and intensity\, paired with an element of surprise. It is not a set of patterns or a “visual goal” but a way of interacting\nwith your partner(s) through rope\, a specific interview type\, if you want. \nIn this 3-parts workshop series\, Barkas and Addie will accompany the participants through the principles\, applications\, and variations of Ranboo\, while keeping a strong focus on safety. \nDisclaimer: The highly dynamic nature of ranboo comes with the potential of greater risk for injuries. We strongly recommend participants watch the series in order and only \npractice exercises from the latter parts if they are proficient in the basic techniques. \n  \nPart I Introduction (October 4\, 2023\, 7-10 pm CET) \nIn the introduction\, we will get to know the key terms of ranboo and get familiar with movement and techniques to safely tie in this style. \n  \nPart II Next Level (October 11\, 2023\, 7-10 pm CET) \nWe increase the pace and variation of distance and apply the principles learned in Part I to some standard patterns. \n  \nPart III Floor & Air (October 18\, 2023\, 7-10 pm CET) \nRanboo on the floor is challenging due to various aspects. In this part\, we use these challenges to further familiarize participants with the concepts developed in the previous parts but on the floor. Some challenges of ranboo that appear on the floor are similar when we go into suspensions. Other challenges are added. We go through a suspension and see how ranboo affects the way we can tie in the air. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time: October 4\, 11\, and 18\, 2023\, 7-10 pm CET (Berlin time) \nFormat: workshop & discussion (virtual) \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English\, translation into German can be provided \nMinimum Knowledge Level: Active participants\, i.e. those who would like to tie along or try the exercises immediately\, should be able to tie a single/double column tie and have some knowledge about different frictions\, as well as suspension experiences for that corresponding part. None of that is a threshold for participation in general and participants of all levels are welcome.\nWe strongly recommend not to tie along when you are not proficient in the underlying rope techniques. \nWhat to Bring:  ropes (the techniques covered work well for natural fiber rope\, and synthetic will behave differently. This series is not suited to tying with synthetic rope)\, a partner\, suspension point if you want to tie along in Part III \nSolo or Partnered:  both (each participant needs a ticket) \nClass recording: Yes. The recording will be made available after the live class for 14 days. \n  \n  \nWhat else to know \nAfter your successful ticket purchase\, you will be sent an email with the Zoom login data for this event. \nIf you cannot afford this event\, please check the ticket option “solidarity” for reduced ticket prices. If that is still too much or they are out of stock\, feel free to send us a message via info@karada-house.de

SUMMARY:Rope for Absolute Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the world of rope bondage\, friend! It’s wild and fun out here and we are thrilled to be your point of entry. \nThis weekly class is designed for anyone who would like to learn about Japanese-inspired rope bondage/shibari/kinbaku whether you see yourself in the role of the person tying or being tied. We firmly believe that everyone\, even if you wish to purely be tied\, should know the absolute basics of this craft. You can come alone or with a partner. Everyone will learn and tie. You can either tie yourself or another person\, switching will also be a part of this class. \nYou do not need to bring any ropes as we will provide workshop ropes for you. \nYou can also spontaneously come by on the day and purchase a ticket online right up to the beginning of the class if there is space left. \n  \nNote: \nThe class starts at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier so we can process your ticket and welcome you. Once the class has started we do not allow entry. You cannot transfer your ticket to another week. If you are not sure you can come\, please purchase your ticket on the day as soon as you are absolutely sure you can make it. \n  \nEvent Details \nDate & Time:  every Monday\, 7 pm-9 pm CET (Berlin) \nFormat: hands-on workshop \nAudience:  LGBTQIA+ & FRIENDS \nLanguage: English \nMinimum Knowledge Level: – \nWhat to Bring: comfortable clothes that are more tight fitting if possible \nSolo or Partnered:  solo\, partnered\, in a group (everyone needs a ticket) \nPrice: 25 Euros \n  \nWhat we teach \n– single column tie \n– tension \n– wrapping \n– double column tie \n– history of Japanese (inspired) rope bondage \n  \nWhat happens next? \nIf you like what you are being taught\, we recommend repeating this class one or two more times so that you can develop muscle memory and a firmer understanding. Every last Monday of the month we also offer an adjacent class for absolute beginners that will go into the depth of learning about consent\, boundaries\, and negotiation as well as physical and psychological safety in ropes. Once you feel solid in your absolute basic skills and have joined the consent & safety class once\, you are very welcome to move on to our Open Training for Beginners (also weekly on Monday). \n  \nMandatory Covid-19 rules \nIf you would like to inform yourself about other safety measures we have in place\, please consult our Covid-19 measurements here. \n  \nAccessibility Note \nThe workshop is held in spoken English. German can also be provided. The space\, KARA\, is on the ground floor but has three steps to enter the house. A ramp for wheelchairs is available at all times. There is also a parking space available right in front of the door if needed. KARA has an accessible bathroom available. There are no thresholds in the entire house. The garden is only partially accessible at the moment. During the workshop\, we will sit on the floor. Sitting in a chair can also be provided. Adaptations for physical needs will be shown and can also be provided upon request. You actively request and use people’s chosen pronouns. You remain mindful of the fact that Karada House is first and foremost a space for queer people that you are also invited to attend. You have a genuine concern for the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people and remain in awareness of heterosexual and gender-straight privileges. \nFriends don’t have to be perfect. None of us are. We request that we all proactively work and strive to be good friends and allies to marginalized people.
