SUMMARY:The Promise of Identity
DESCRIPTION:What is identity? What is a kink identity? Who am I and if yes\, why? What are we doing when we identify as? These and more questions are far more important for our daily experience with kink\, intimacy\, relationships\, and sexualities than we might think. \nIn this workshop we are taking a path to a different understanding of identity by deconstructing the terms involved. The promise of identity becomes a model of ourselves as malleable and we can thus create an identity of ourselves that we feel comfortable with. \nThings we cover:\n\ndifferent identities\nentrance rituals\ncategorization and the crisis of identity\nshame\nways out of the crisis of identity\ncreating our own identity

SUMMARY:Kink is Political - Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Kinksters love talking about resistance. Sometimes it’s demonized\, like in the image of the sub who can’t submit or  the rope partner who has some impediment to becoming totally transparent in order to “share authentically.” Other times\, kink itself is framed as a practice of political resistance\, a political act that goes against sexual conservatism and the violence of the State. In this session we’ll ask: does it make it sense to use the same word for both registers? What is the broader political context and content within a notion of resistance? What does resistance entail? And how important is it to articulate what one is resisting against? Along the way\, we’ll think about what it means to use a concept with such a deep ties to scientific and therepeutic discourses. \nAbout this series\nKink is Political is an online discussion with Addie Tahl\, Georg Barkas\, Andrea Rimon\, and occasional special guests. Participants are invited to join a discussion during which we unite critique with an emphasis on the practical and day-to-day issues and challenges of kink\, intimacy\, and relationships. \nFocusing on concepts central to BDSM\, leather\, rope\, and sex-positive communities\, it interrogates widely adopted approaches and commonly held notions. It aims to understand the politics of kink beyond the language of sexual liberation and politics of sexual liberalism\, both frames that have proven insufficient in addressing widespread harm\, a rising international tide of sex-negativity and reaction\, or in guaranteeing that the most marginalized can sexually flourish. \nKink is Political is an examination of the contexts and consequences of how we talk about and understand gender and sexuality. It is a forum to think about how kink spaces and practices operate\, what works\, what doesn’t\, and what we can use to build something better.

SUMMARY:Kink is Political - Restraint
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we’ll read bondage and restraint as sexual practices within the context of BDSM against a broader history of restraint. Turning towards the anti-psychiatric work of Franco Basaglia and the ubiquity of physical restraint as a tool of the medical establishment and carceral state\, we’ll start to contend with what it means to take up and play with forms and techniques implicated in an almost unimaginable amount of violence and harm. We’ll ask: what logics of restraint in medical and carceral contexts end up reproduced in kink and sex-positive communities? How does the broader social and political practice of restraint shape who our spaces are accessible to and how? What are the impacts of legislation that criminalizes voluntary restraint? How do we take restraint more seriously?  \nAbout this series\nKink is Political is an online discussion with Addie Tahl\, Georg Barkas\, Andrea Rimon\, and occasional special guests. Participants are invited to join a discussion during which we unite critique with an emphasis on the practical and day-to-day issues and challenges of kink\, intimacy\, and relationships. \nFocusing on concepts central to BDSM\, leather\, rope\, and sex-positive communities\, it interrogates widely adopted approaches and commonly held notions. SUMMARY:Kink is Political - Gossip
DESCRIPTION:Gossip\, we are told\, is something immensely corrosive. It tears groups apart. It presents a special danger to anyone involved in anything stigmatized or illegal. At the same time\, gossip is held up as one of the best ways to keep ourselves safe\, a recourse and resource for the marginalized to navigate danger and harm they can’t afford to confront head on. Whether or not gossip is a net good or evil\, there is one thing that’s clear: it is a common fixture of BDSM and sex-positive communities. In this session\, we’ll talk about how gossip circulates differently in different contexts. How can we think about gossip in a more granular way? What are its different circuits\, and how do they interact with different populations differently? What are the affordances of calling and calling out? What does it mean to choose to engage in something other than public\, formal complaint? How do we use gossip to shape both our who we are and the communities we belong to?  \nAbout this series\nKink is Political is an online discussion with Addie Tahl\, Georg Barkas\, Andrea Rimon\, and occasional special guests. Participants are invited to join a discussion during which we unite critique with an emphasis on the practical and day-to-day issues and challenges of kink\, intimacy\, and relationships. \nFocusing on concepts central to BDSM\, leather\, rope\, and sex-positive communities\, it interrogates widely adopted approaches and commonly held notions. SUMMARY:Fat Rope: The Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:Fat bodies belong in rope\, without apology\, compromise\, or shame. This workshop is a hands-on dive into shibari that centers fat liberation\, body autonomy\, and the rejection of normative rope ideals. Taught by Ceci Ferox\, this class invites all participants to unlearn restrictive standards and instead build skill\, awareness\, and creativity in tying with and in fat bodies\, not despite of them. \nWe’ll explore:\n\nThe opportunities and challenges different types of fat tissue create for rope\nAdapting classic ties for different kinds of body geometries\nErgonomic tying that prioritizes comfort\, agency\, and sustainability\nBottoming while fat\, and how to track what’s going on in your body\nNavigating challenges like internalized fatphobia and the urge to “help”\, minimize\, or perform\nCreating scenes that honor the power\, beauty\, and resilience of fat bodies\n\nThis space is for anyone — fat or not — who wants to engage with rope from a place of respect\, curiosity\, and resistance to body hierarchies. All genders\, all sizes\, all experience levels welcome\, as long as you are able to prioritize fat experiences in the way you participate. SUMMARY:Pleasure Resistance – Sexual Liberation in a Fucked up World
DESCRIPTION:We live in a world that thrives on disconnection from our bodies\, from our desires\, from one another. Pleasure is often framed as a luxury\, a distraction\, or something to be earned. But what if pleasure is something deeper — a form of resistance? A radical reclaiming of our humanity\, our agency\, and our aliveness? Pleasure Resistance is a 3-hour workshop\, conversation\, and community space that invites you to explore pleasure not as indulgence\, but as a political practice that builds resilience. Together\, we’ll unpack how oppressive systems like patriarchy\, white supremacy\, capitalism\, and colonialism disconnect us from our erotic selves\, and how reclaiming joy and sensuality can be a bold act of defiance and care. This is a space for anyone who has felt anger\, shame\, numbness\, or confusion around pleasure. It’s for survivors\, queers\, rebels\, and anyone longing to reconnect with their pleasure in a world that tries to shut it down. You don’t need to have it all figured out\, just come as you are. \nWhat happens in the workshop?\nThrough guided reflection\, group dialogue\, and body-based awareness exercises\, you’ll be invited to: \n\nReframe pleasure as a tool for resilience and rebellion\nIdentify internalized narratives that limit your erotic freedom\nFind rebellious paths to pleasure in an oppressive world\nExplore what sexual liberation means to you\nConnect with others in honest\, non-judgmental conversation\nBegin (or deepen) your journey toward embodied joy\n\nThis space welcomes all genders\, sexualities\, body types\, and lived experiences within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. You do not need to have a positive relationship with sex or pleasure to attend — curiosity\, openness\, and respect are all that’s required. \n\n

SUMMARY:Fat Rope: Suspension
DESCRIPTION:Join this demo & lecture to learn how to use the strengths of soft and heavy bodies for kick-ass suspensions. We focus on the mechanics and planning that make shibari suspension safe\, empowering\, and effective for fat bodies. We’ll look at how to work with weight\, softness\, and shape — not against them — to create efficient\, comfortable\, and powerful suspensions. \nWhat we’ll cover\n\n\nBody assessment & communication: how to talk about comfort\, pressure\, and risk with partners. \n\n\nTension & placement: manage tension and use geometry to adapt ties and positions for different body proportions and mobility needs. \n\n\nSuspension planning: understand how to build sequences that minimize strain and maximize stability on both sides of the rope. \n\nBody handling & load distribution: figure out how to lift\, where to support\, and where weight is distributed in suspension.\n\nProblem-solving: troubleshoot common issues like rope sliding\, getting loose\, or being uncomfortable. \n\n\nThis class is fat and queer centered and body-inclusive. All identities\, genders\, and body types are welcome. Tops\, bottoms\, and switches will all find practical tools to apply right away — whether you’re flying\, lifting\, or supporting. The focus is on the suspension process and no specific harnesses are taught.
